The aim of this paper is to shed light on the (semantic, cultural) meanings implied by the word "... more The aim of this paper is to shed light on the (semantic, cultural) meanings implied by the word "longing" in a diachronic and synchronic perspective. Starting from the original meanings of the noun "longing" in Proto-Slavic, the authors aim to demonstrate that longing as a philosophical concept was first constituted in the Judeo-Christian tradition and that its basis was the idea of the imperfection of the human condition and the consequent striving for the ideal. With reference to the typology of nostalgia proposed by the Russian-American cultural theorist Svetlana Boym, two types of longing (restorative and reflexive) are distinguished, the criterion for their separation being localisation of the object of longing on the time axis: past-future. The researchers argue that today we are dealing with an omnipresent longing, which on the one hand is due to the worrying situation in the world (e.g. the war in Ukraine) and, on the other hand, to the general tendency of today's world, i.e. the impossibility of reaching a state of fulfilment. The creative reflection of contemporary writers on experienced and/or expected loss ultimately confirms the cultural potential of the concept of longing.

A przecież w tandemie tłumaczącym z języka niemieckiego pracowali

She considers their position in the literary field as: canon, literature consecrated, “heretical”. Using the terminological findings of French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, she determines the position of the publishing houses, the cooperation with the co-editors of the series, and the publication field from economic, symbolic capital perspectives. Thus, she tries to evaluate the degree of the series’ visibility on the Poland’s publishing market.

While analysing the actions carried out as a part of the W.a.B. 's (a Warsaw-based publishing house) strategy to advance the publication process and to popularize jelinek's oeuvre, we may notice that they actually confirm the publisher's endeavour to balance economic and symbolic capital (Bourdieu). it allows us to reconstruct the "marketing" aims of the translation in question. yet both the cognitive and pragmatic facet of the austrian nobel laureate's Polish translation remain to be reconstructed by the readers.

As it happens, the very concept has been gaining a lot of popularity in Germany, becoming the key competence required by employers in various areas of numerous professions. The author analyzes selected commercial crash courses in connection with the cultural trainings offered on the German market and tries to answer the question of how intercultural competence is formed and what criteria could be applied to select particular areas of this competence. In the article the author gives the example of an intercultural competence model by Jürgen Bolten with relation to an Internet platform (Web 2.0.).

The author of this article introduces the distinction between the cultural competence and the intertexuality competence. The remarks are based on the second novel by the Austrian Nobel Prize laureate Elfriede Jelinek entitled Michael. Ein Jugendbuch für die Infantilgesellschaft from 1972. The texts of culture alluded to in this book (American and German TV series, celebrities, etc.) are utilized to question the myths presented by mass media. The author comes to the conclusion that the need to foreignise results from the necessity to confront the final recipients with the cultural difference that the primary
reader is confronted with.

The remarks are based on the film Sophie Scholl – The Final Days (German: Sophie Scholl – Die letzten Tage, 2005) by director Marc Rothemund and writer Fred Breinersdorfer. It is about the last days in the life of Sophie Scholl, a 21‑year‑old member of the anti‑Nazi non‑violent student resistance group the White Rose, part of the German Resistance movement. The author comes to the conclusion that the need to foreignise results from the necessity to confront the final recipients with the (historical) cultural difference.

According to the author, it is related to the historic narrative; and the issue of settlement of the writers novels.
