Argumentation as the public exchange of reasons is widely thought to enhance deliberative interac... more Argumentation as the public exchange of reasons is widely thought to enhance deliberative interactions that generate and justify reasonable public policies. Adopting an argumentation-theoretic perspective, we survey the norms that should govern public argumentation and address some of the complexities that scholarly treatments have identified. Our focus is on norms associated with the ideals of correctness and participation as sources of a politically legitimate deliberative outcome. In principle, both ideals are mutually coherent. If the information needed for a correct deliberative outcome is distributed among agents, then maximising participation increases information diversity. But both ideals can also be in tension. If participants lack competence or are prone to biases, a correct deliberative outcome requires limiting participation. This strategy may allow the speaker to use the emotional potential corresponding to certain specific terms or the emotional potential of real-life situations and events whether witnessed, reported or presented in fiction. With regard to the rhetorical situation(s) considered in the present study, the virtual audience may be reconstructed in the analysis as having access to three types of discourse: 1) official historiography, prone at times to highlight a nation's moments of glory; 2) various discourses, some of which emanate from historians, which highlight less familiar aspects (negative, and/or having little to do with heroism) of Romanian nation-building, or else voice scepticism concerning national identity or even contempt with respect to the Romanians' behaviour and/or their destiny; 3) reactions of a historian to such comments, in which...

U ovom radu, autor analizira argumente za i protiv registra pedofila kao instituta u svijetu i ka... more U ovom radu, autor analizira argumente za i protiv registra pedofila kao instituta u svijetu i kao instituta koji je u Republici Hrvatskoj 01. siječnja 2013. stupio na snagu putem Zakona o pravnim posljedicama osude, kaznene evidencije i rehabilitacije. Kao temelj rasprave u radu, uzeta je temeljna funkcija države, koja služi kao kriterij opravdanosti različitih vrsta registra pedofila koje autor izlaže u radu. Kao glavni pro i contra argument, pojavljuju se načelo razmjernosti, pravo na privatnost, pravo na pristup informacijama, podaci o tamnoj brojci i recidi vizmu počinitelja kaznenih djela na štetu djece. Nadalje, rad obrađuje delikatnu problematiku instituta rehabilitacije u ovoj tematici. Na kraju članka, posebna je pozornost poklonjena poredbenom pravu i Konvenciji Vijeća Europe o zaštiti djece od seksualnog iskorištavanja i seksualnog zlostavljanja.

This is a brief presentation of the methodology of a study in progress for identifying rhetorical... more This is a brief presentation of the methodology of a study in progress for identifying rhetorical strategies used in CSR reports having to deal with risk issues. It presents the conceptual approach of a study meant to analyze excerpts of CSR reports for 2012 of several US large companies. The analysis is rooted in discourse analysis and rhetorical theory. The focus of the study is the way in which the company addresses the stakeholders so as to argue implicitly in favor of the company’s preoccupation for risk prevention, elimination of various hazards, counter balancing negative consequences and effects of the company’s activity. The study discusses anticipates on possible findings to be later valued in the field of Business Ethics.

CSR reports excerpts are viewed in the analysis as parts of a virtual critical discussion in which a company acts as a protagonist maneuvering strategically to defend the standpoint according to which the business is operated ethically, and to convince the audience about what is mentioned in the standpoint. The reconstructed standpoint of a CSR report,We are doing business responsibly, may be regarded as stereotypical, since it corresponds to the institutional point of this regulated type of communicative activity. This study makes suggestions about using the Microsoft Teams platform, Office applications and t... more This study makes suggestions about using the Microsoft Teams platform, Office applications and the corresponding digital tools and facilities available in the academic setting from the methodologist’s and the language teacher’s perspective. The study is concerned with foreign language teaching and learning (FLTL, in this case Romanian) in a university setting in the framework of the European referential and standards for language proficiency. Two aspects have been identified as significant with respect to maintaining student and teacher motivation and to ensuring pedagogical success, as well as innovative integration of computer-assisted language learning tools in the pedagogical action. The former presents the integration of linguistic and pedagogical inputs into one single Microsoft Word document to be shared during the virtual class in order to ensure focus on various practices of communicative competence without digital interface change and to enhance retention of linguistic content. The latter approaches group work in various channels created within Microsoft Teams.

Cet article propose des réflexions personnelles à propos de quelques expressions à caractère plus... more Cet article propose des réflexions personnelles à propos de quelques expressions à caractère plus ou moins figé, qui ont pour contenu sémantique celui de fournir des précisions sur la source de l’information. Ces expressions couvrent le domaine des perceptions sensorielles. Les considérations qui les concernent traitent de leur fonctionnement stylistique, sémantique, pragmatique et rhétorique. À travers les commentaires proposés est aussi examinée la façon dont l’expression en question se construit au niveau lexical, afin d’explorer: a) la manière dont se constitue son sens; b) son agencement stylistique; c) la façon dont ces expressions contribuent aux efforts du locuteur d’obtenir l’adhésion de l’interlocuteur et/ou du public; d) son potentiel illocutoire et pragmatique. Ces remarques ont pour point de départ l’exposé au sujet du non–trope pléonasme fait par Pierre Fontanier dans "Les figures du discours" (1827-1830).
