ABSTRACT The human geography has developed late nineteenth century, when the main issues were related to the Earth's cultural differences and of popular traditions. The cultural geography undergoes a downward trend, in which the field was found in a moment of prestige. It is then to reveal the importance of intangible dimensions of culture that, in the late 1970s, the cultural geography emerges. Thus, it sought to trace and reflect on this historical process of geographic cultural studies. This reflection allowed to present new issues that have been highlighted in the context of cultural studies in geography.
