The interest of the experience is focused on how Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO) models can be further integrated into parametric design software for the definition of adaptable components in response to environmental and architectural criteria. This research explores platforms and processes for the collaboration between software development, structural engineers and architects in early stages of design as a possibility to relate the potential of computational processes with the definition of design criteria involving architectural, structural and environmental parameters.

That is why landscape-level interventions are better than buildings to achieve an ecological impact through design. This project is an example of this, because it addresses the problem of the urban park not only from its design but also from its ability to generate ecosystems that help its own maintenance over time, without neglecting the uses it should serve.

This article pres ents the experience of a design studio workshop exercise by addressing the introduction of parametric design principles and the development of a built academic project through a team based design and fabrication process. The strategy followed by the team was to utilize parametric models as a mean to materialize driving variables of the project into unexpected geometries to be deployed in different public spaces in Santiago. Context, time scale and available technology resulted in a non-obvious combination of advanced digital design and fabrication techniques and low-cost mass-produced materials.

The awarded entry for the New Alameda Providencia contest, organized by the Regional Metropolitan Government of Santiago, not only seeks to renew the most emblematic avenue in the Chilean capital, but also to transform it into an exceptional urban experience in which public space, rather than competing with the various transport systems, is the one that defines and reorders them.

The first project is a flexible partition composed of interlocking elements shaped using a laser-cutter. The second project is a university exhibition unit made with various wooden panels manufactured through a computer numerical controlled (CNC) system.

The Design Product is revealed through compressions and deformations evaluation, where the ACN internal interaction's exhibits emerging global patterns.
