It first reviews the current state of experimentation with the use of interactive visual interfaces in the archival domain, noting several gaps including the absence of formal studies of cognitive and perceptual tasks. The paper then reports on preliminary results from a cognitive task analysis of archival arrangement and description, providing a broad brush description of archival analysis during arrangement and description as an example of archival sense-making. It then suggests some possible leverage points where visual analytics technology might be applied to support archival arrangement and description and concludes by reflecting on some theoretical and practical aspects of visualization technologies.

The study utilizes the concept of the lifeworld, which encompasses collective human perceptions and everyday communicative social interaction, to analyze the formation and perpetuation of lifeworlds within these ecosystems. By employing scene theory as an analytical framework, the research identifies structural and thematic aspects of the lifeworlds represented in the discourse on Reddit and Twitter. The analysis reveals how these virtual spaces shape the unique social orderings, normative politics, and cultural identities associated with each blockchain. The study emphasizes the role of identity expression, cultural attitudes towards money, and the dynamics of boundary work within these scenes. Overall, the paper provides insights into the distinct lifeworlds and dynamics of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Algorand, showcasing the significance of sociocultural factors in blockchain ecosystems and illustrating how a scenes lens offers insights into dynamics at the ecosystem level that may not be visible in an exploration of blockchain technology at the level of technological category.

Thispaper discusses the opportunity to train and use more data-driven approaches facilitated by visualization, interactivity anddata science methods to innovate rule making and the way governments engage in dialogue with citizens on regulatory reforms. The paper focuses on two areas in particular - 1) regulatory impact assessment (RIA) and 2) information processing support innotice and comment on rulemaking - with particular reference to how the application of a novel big data analytics framework, Mixed-Initiative Social Media Analytics (MISMA), can be used to address these two rulemaking challenges.

These weaknesses have led to operational risks in financial institutions, flawed bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings following the Crisis, and inadequacies in financial supervisors access to records and information for the purposes of a prudential response. Research is needed to identify the practices that will provide the records, information and data needed to support more effective financial analysis and risk management. The unique contribution of this volume is in bringing together researchers in distinct domains that seldom interact to identify theoretical, technological, policy and practical issues related to the management of financial records, information and data. The book will, therefore, appeal to researchers or advanced practitioners in the field of finance and those with an interest in risk management, computer science, cognitive science, sociology, management information systems, information science, and archival science as applied to the financial domain.

Managing Records in Global Financial Markets

The first part of this chapter, therefore, is intended primarily for readers who are new to the world of financial markets. It explores these markets through the lens of different products and services offered in them, the different types of financial institutions that deliver such products and services, and the types of markets in which they are delivered. The chapter then examines the securities trading function within a financial institution to illustrate how records relate to the activities and processes undertaken by such institutions. This type of 'business systems analysis' is typical of the work required to build records management tools such as business classif ication schemes and retention schedules. Inevitably, this chapter introduces many technical terms, but wherever possible such terms are explained on first use.

These relationships are explored both theoretically and empirically using a case study of Jamaican commercial bank failures. The study builds upon earlier research on the relationship No work of this nature is ever really the product of a single individual, however. There are many people without whom this study would never have been completed, and to-whom I therefore owe a debt of gratitude. First, I would Eke to thank my thesis supervisors at University College London: NEss Elizabeth Shepherd, Professor John McIlwaine and Mr. Geoffrey Yeo. It is an understatement to say that their guidance throughout the researching and writing process was invaluable. I owe a debt of gratitude also to Dr. Anne Thurston, ORE., of the International Records Management Trust, who encouraged me to undertake this study and has been a source of inspiration to me in many ways, not the least of which because of her pioneering research on the subject of accountability and record keeping in developing countries. I must also thank Stephney Ferguson, University Librarian, University of the West Indies, for her support and encouragement. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Shirley Tyndall, Financial Secretary,

This tripartite paper traces a journey from theory to practice by outlining the origin and development of the theoretical ‘three layer trust model’ for blockchain technologies, discussing the pedagogical utility of this model within a virtual education setting, and describing a student’s application of the learned model in a technical blockchain product design setting. By providing a thorough grounding in the complex multidisciplinary balance involved in designing blockchain systems (and adding the autoethnographic reflections of participants in this multi-setting focal design application) the following paper supports the potential value of such theoretical models to establish shared language for complex concepts across disciplinary divides. Future research directions are suggested to establish greater validity for the concepts presented within this paper and dive deeper into the foundations of its many referenced disciplines.

It briefly traces different conceptualizations and the historical evolution of risk and risk management and analyzes discourse on risk and the use of risk management in the field of records management and allied disciplines such as archives and information science.Design/methodology/approachThe methodological approach involves searching for and extracting for analysis references to “risk” in articles from well‐known journals and subjecting the 248 references to a visual analysis.FindingsThe visual analysis reveals 15 distinct, and in some cases conceptually related topics or categories of articles on risk. These are analysed further to create a typology of seven distinct topics of discourse defining the records‐risk nexus in the sampled literature.Originality/valueThis paper contributes an analysis of the literature on records and risk that defines the nexus between the two subjects, presents a typology of discourse on the records‐risk nexus, and demonstrates the use of an innovative methodology (visual analysis) for analysis of large sets of bibliographic data.

Using a thematic synthesis of the cases, the paper describes a typology of blockchain solutions for managing current records representing three distinct design patterns. It then considers the different types of solutions in relation to implications for recordkeeping and long-term preservation of authentic records.
