The aim of the present study is to assess theoretical and practical analysis of scientific public... more The aim of the present study is to assess theoretical and practical analysis of scientific publications on solar desalination. This analysis is proposed within mechanical design theory framework. For this, inductive and statistical methods were used in analysis of the scientific publications of different specialties that deal with the design process of solar desalination. With the use of the mentioned methods a tendency was obtained that justifies applying the study results to this type of devices of the approaches of the theory of the mechanical design analyzed. Statistical analysis is conducted for the above assessment not only analytically but quantitatively. This gives responses to problems currently posed by different authors related to the possibility of linking several disciplines used today in isolation for the application of mechanical design theory to this type of solar desalination.

El presente estudio experimental se centra en investigar los efectos de los parámetros de corte e... more El presente estudio experimental se centra en investigar los efectos de los parámetros de corte en el desgaste del flanco con dos insertos recubiertos durante el torneado de acabado en seco a altas velocidades del acero inoxidable AISI 316L. Los efectos de los parámetros de corte fueron determinados utilizando un análisis de varianza y de regresión simple. Como principal resultado se obtuvo el efecto significativo del avance y del tiempo de maquinado en el desgaste del flanco. El inserto de tres capas no sobrepasó el criterio de fin de vida del desgaste, mientras que el inserto de una capa sufrió un desgaste catastrófico para la mayor velocidad de corte. El desgaste del flanco tuvo mejor comportamiento para el avance de 0,08 mm/ rev en todas las velocidades empleadas en este estudio.

Obtaining interferences among parts of a product contributes to determine the feasibility of the ... more Obtaining interferences among parts of a product contributes to determine the feasibility of the assembly sequences according to the geometry of the parts involved. However, in assembly may exist partswith freeform surfaces which make difficult to determine the interference relationship between themautomatically. The objective of this research is to present a method for obtaining interference among assembly parts with prismatic, cylindric and form free surfaces. The method is automated with a software developed on PythonOCC open source framework, which is based on OpenCascade. The techniques for extracting assembly geometric information which is contained in a 3D CAD file withSTEP standard format, the detection of collisions between the parts in disassembly directions, and the generation of interference matrices are described. Two examples of mechanical assemblies are analyzed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method and the interferences matrices corresponding to the six principal axis disassembly directions are obtained as a result.

The operations sequences, processing time, setup time, deadline time, due date time, priority, machine, fabric color and related technological decisions data are obtained from orders database along with a set of technological criteria about machines, which allows automatically analyzing and generating the initial scheduling sequences. These sequences are processed later by two procedures, one based on Ant Colony, and the other in Genetic Algorithms. Both procedures are integrated to a generative scheduling method and dispatching rules for big problems. In this approach is integrated technological information from: the process planning and scheduling process, in order to improve the processing time and the solution quality.

The operating variables studied are the operation, processing time, setup time, deadline time, duedate time, priority, machine, and fabric color. These variables were used as input to the constructed neural network in order to predict the scheduling completion time as the output on a single machine. Three layer feed forward network trained with error back propagation learning rule are used. The constructed network was found to be precise in modeling the scheduling for the operating conditions studied and also, in predicting the scheduling for the new input data which are kept unaware of the trained neural network.

In the mechanical design process, the interpretation of geometrical and dimensional tolerances is... more In the mechanical design process, the interpretation of geometrical and dimensional tolerances is a common task in a products life cycle because tolerances are of decisive importance in the decisions related to cost and quality. At present, there are numerous approaches and investigations related to the modeling of tolerances in mechanical assemblies, related to Computer Aided Design Systems. The goal of this paper is to show a method to modeling an assembly based on a graph map structure, to guarantee the resolution of dimensional chains and tolerance analysis. In this process, which is based on a graph map structure, the dimensional chains associated to the functional requirements that influence the relative location of the parts are determined. A subset of a belt conveyor as an example, illustrates the proposed method.
Due to the limitations of the conventional techniques of optimization, in the following work a me... more Due to the limitations of the conventional techniques of optimization, in the following work a metaheuristic one is presented based on a genetic algorithm (GA), to solve scheduling problems of type flow shop, with the objective of minimizing the time of culmination of all the works, good known as makespan. This problem, considered to be a difficult solution is typical in combinatory optimization and it is presented in workshops with technology of having schemed, where conventional machine-tools exist and different types of pieces are manufactured that have in common oneself technological route (process order). The proposed solution it was proven with classic problems published by other authors, obtaining you satisfactory results as for the quality of the opposing solutions and the time of used computation.

The current experimental study is focused on investigating the effects of cutting parameters on f... more The current experimental study is focused on investigating the effects of cutting parameters on flank wear in two coated carbide inserts during dry high speed finish turning of AISI 316L stainless steel. The effects of cutting parameters were determined using analysis of variance and simple regression. As a main result a significant effect of cutting feed and the machining time on flank wear was found. The three coating layers insert did not exceed the criterion of end of life of wear while the insert with one layer suffered a catastrophic wear at the highest cutting speed. The flank wear showed the best performance for the cutting feed of 0.08 mm/rev at all the speeds used in the study.

El primero de los métodos permite determinar el criterio de mayor importancia a cumplir como exigencia en la fabricación; el segundo método, busca la selección de la mejor alternativa, con los valores para el maquinado a alta velocidad que permita fabricar la pieza rectangular de aleación de aluminio 5083. Para el análisis multicriterio los parámetros seleccionados en el proceso de maquinado de piezas de aluminio de estructura delgada son: la rugosidad superficial y la deformación de la pieza.
