Our analysis emphasizes theoretically and with practical examples the calculation of payroll in Romanian preuniversity education and the position of our country within the European Union in this field. We have noticed that Romania, in the framework of pre-university education among E.U. countries, is ranked in last place in terms of funding the education system, and in terms of remunerating teachers, having a reduced payroll tax compared to the analysed EU countries, because of the 16% flat tax applied in our country. We believe that an increase in investments in the Romanian pre-university education, by increasing teachers' wage and ensuring an efficient management of the education system, are factors likely to contribute to the sustainable development of Romanian education in terms of performance and international competitiveness.

In this paper we make a motion for presenting the method of calculating costs per order and its positioning as compared to other methods of managing the costs, as well as applying the method in a big entity in wood industry in Romania. The case study presents entirely the appliance of the method of calculating costs per order and aims to conclude its efficiency in the costs' management process in the Romanian wood industry. We opine that despite the fact that the method of calculating costs per order is a classical one, having certain assumed limits it has a special utility in the sector due to the activity's specifics of furniture manufacturing. By applying the method per order in the wood industry from Romania, a good rundown and integration is made concerning the expenses incurred by manufacturing, as well as their reflection in a trusty way in the managerial accounting.

The net profit was considered as a dependent variable and the turnover, expenses with employees, value added, current liabilities and inventories as independent variables. Five hypotheses were proposed, tested and validated by using multiple linear regression. The most significant results show that there is a positive significant relationship between net profit and value added and a negative significant relationship between net profit and expenses with employees. Since the model has been validated statistically, we consider that it can provide useful predictions in terms of economic performance analysis in the furniture industry. Keywords: multiple linear regression, ANOVA, Durbin-Watson test, net profit estimation, value added

Along times of economic crisis at social level, a decrease in financial power at microeconomic, individual level is felt. Under conditions of social decrease in buying capacity, the request for commercial furniture is in rapid fall and thus the industry as such suffers serious structural mutations. Analyzing a series of macroeconomic indices from the European furniture industry led to the result that during the late years there has been a positive trend within the furniture industry in matters of production, however, with concern to trading, the situation is more complicated. There is a behaviour difference in the furniture industry between emergent countries and EU developed states and based on the performed analysis, a SWOT analysis at sectorial level crystallized, in which we propose ways of growth in the European furniture industry.
