Nerve fibers of the peripheral nervous system are myelinated, consisting of Schwann cells. Each fiber is surrounded by the endoneurium consisting of loose connective tissue. The fibers are gathered in bundles called fascicles and each fascicle is wrapped in the perineurium. The perineurium is composed of overlapping epithelium-like cells. Several fascicles also bundle together and wrapped in the epineurium which consist of dense irregular tissue and protects the nerve from stretching and injury.
