Kaolin (also known as china clay) is a fine white clay named after it's place of origin, Kao-Ling (Gaoling "high-ridge") in China. It's essential when making clay and widely used in the ceramics industry. It's what we're named after. This material from the earth that brings us together - no hierarchy, just mud.  This photo is a pile of reclaim; clay which is being recycled to be used again. It's very sloppy and sticky at this stage, but soon it will be wedged (a way of kneading) ready to use. This is WILD CLAY! (Not melted ice cream, unfortunately). I'm learning to process clay from natural dirt from my yard and so far it is a very rewarding experience 😊 How cool??? I love this because it's what all of this is about- how something can look or seem as hopeless and as messy as a pile of dirt and still can be used and made beautiful. Praise God for these lessons in the hope He provides. While I am still learning and don't plan on using this for functional ware/dishes, perhaps there...
