This day in 1942 "Jana Gana Mana" became national anthem of India thanks to Subhas Chandra Bose. Original recording of the performance by Radio Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg, Germany. Dr Eigel Kruettge was the conductor. 1/ @chandrachurg NG Ganpulay, a member of the Free India Centre, recorded the performance on tape. After his death, this tape was handed over to All India Radio, which broadcast a programme in 1980 called "National Anthem born in Exile".

We were taught in school that Mahatma Gandhi returned his Kaiser-i-Hind medal awarded by the British to protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of April 1919. The reality is somewhat different. 1/ Image In his letter of August 1920 to Viceroy Chelmford (in whose hollowed memory we have the famous Chelmsford Club in the heart of New Delhi), Gandhiji wrote that he returned this and other medals "in connection with the Khilafat movement" of August 1920.

Veer Savarkar a CIA agent? This revolting insinuation has been made by historian @Ashok_Kashmir
in his book.

1/

The historian has cited a declassified Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) record in his book in favour of his insinuation. What i do not understand is that why has Ashok ji cited this record when in clearly does not relate to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar?

"We do not believe in military defence"

From private papers of Sardar Patel at National Archives. Not clear who wrote this as pages are missing. But seems like a blueprint of sort by a Gandhi bhakt. As we all know, Gandhians are devoted first and foremost to non-violence. 1/ The subhead is: "Progressive realisation of Non-violence by the Government in Police and Military". At the very start, it says "our ultimate ideal is to replace the military by non-violent defence".

This is in line with what Bapu said. 2/

Breaking: Govt lab refuses to supply Gumnami Baba DNA test data to RTI activist @SayakSen6 on national security grounds.

@AnchorAnandN @Uraghuvanshi @deepscribble @vishalpandeyk

The make-believe pic seen here created by my friend Sauvagya Bhanja.

1/ CFSL, Kolkata turned down RTI request of Sayak to share copy of electropherogram on the basis of which it was concluded that Gumnami Baba was not Netaji. Three reasons have been given. National security, trade secrets and third party information. The latter two are nonsense.

Beginning late 1943, Mahatma Gandhi wrote to Viceroy Linlithgow, explaining his position over August 1942 movement, which had turned violent after his arrest. Govt blamed Gandhi for obstructing the war efforts. Gandhiji in his response to the Viceroy, clarified:

1/ [1]. It was not the Quit India resolution but the action of Government which led to the acts of violence. It was the Government which "goaded the people to the point of madness". That is the people who took part in Quit India movement.

Fake narrative was spread that INA was a puppet army of the Japanese. The truth is decades after the end of the war, Japanese army veteran continued to treat INA with utmost respect. This is Gen Fujiwara with Col Dhillon in the 1980s. Sorry this is from 1970s. But he also visited in the 80s and was treated in the same way by Japanese veterans.

This is not what it seems. India is suffering manpower shortage in armed forces. Brainwashing children into the cult of ahimsa is detrimental to the survival of our civilization. No Gandhi bhakt will ever join the armed forces.

jagran.com/jammu-and-kash… "बिना कोई हथियार उठाए देश को आजादी दिलवाने वाले महात्मा गांधी के अहिंसा का पाठ अब स्कूली बच्चे पढ़ रहे हैं।"

-- This is utter nonsense and is not borne by facts. Ahimsa had minimal impact on the British decision to quit India.

Fake claim being made that in a 1945 cartoon Savarkar was shown taking aim at Gandhi and his aides, including Bose and Ambedkar. The claim is patently absurd. Everyone wore round glasses back in those days. For example, Asaf Ali.

@chandrachurg @vikramsampath @Chirayu1857 Every child in India knows that Bose and Ambedkar were never part of the Gandhian clique depicted in this cartoon from 1945. Bose had been humiliated and thrown out of Congress back in 1939.

The red cross of St George, a crusader, continued to be on our Navy flag not for religious reasons, but because of the affection of Gandhi bhakts towards our former masters. And then there was the Transfer of Power and its hidden agreements the nation does not want to discuss. 1/ Image Lord Louis Mountbatten, a paedophile, ordered at the time of Transfer of Power in 1947 that Indians "would keep the white ensign with the red cross of St George, just as in the Navy.... They must owe some common allegiance to the King [of Great Britian]". The bhakts obeyed. 2/

At the close of WW 2, Subhas Chandra Bose raised a memorial for the INA war dead in Singapore. It was destroyed on the orders of Louis Mountbatten, Allied head in SE Asia. Same time around, Chacha Nehru met Mountbatten and his wife. This was the start of their friendship. 1/ Image Mountbatten became Viceroy of India and Congress decided to make him free India's 1st Governor-General. Mountbatten transferred the power on 15th August, as this was on this day in 1945 that he had defeated Japan and INA. Congressmen raised the slogan "Mountbatten ke jai ho". 2/ Image

Swami Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON/Hare Krishna Movement, was born this day in 1896. 🙏Every Indian must know what he said about Mahatma Gandhi, ahimsa and Netaji. And you will know the possible reason why he was never considered for Bharat Ratna. 1/n

#Netaji125 @RadharamnDas "Thirty years he [Mahatma Gandhi] could not do anything. And Subhas Chandra Bose...went out of India and organized this I.N.A…and the Britishers were obliged to leave India. ...That is my estimation," he said in June 1976 in Los Angeles while conversing with his disciples. 2/n

During second world war, Communists in India spew venom against Netaji. They even commissioned cartoons which lampooned him as dog and donkey of Japanese leaders. One such cartoon shows Netaji landing on starving children of Bengal, hugging a bomb dropped by the Japanese 1/ This cartoon was drawn by the famous Chittaprosad Bhattacharya. CPI's mouthpiece "People's War" frontpaged Chittaprosad's nasty creation. 2/

India@75 survey: Most Indians feel that Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi are over-credited for their role in nation building, and Subhas Chandra Bose and Vallabhbhai Patel under-credited.

livemint.com/politics/news/…

@livemint #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav This sentiment runs the strongest among supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which found a large support base in the latest round of YouGov-Mint-CPR Millennial Survey. BJP would be foolish to ignore the sentiments of its support base.

Not all British had left by 1951. The chiefs of Indian Air Force and Navy were British still; our IB was still reporting to London. The chief justice of Calcutta HC was also an angrez then. The transfer of power is a complicated thing, with secret understandings

@chandrachurg Sir Arthur Trevor Harries was chief justice of Calcutta High Court in 1951. Phani Bhushan Chakravartti was the first Indian CJ. Most Bengalis feign ignorance about him as he stated the truth about Mahatma Gandhi. Bengalis lead India in Gandhi bhakti. We have so many myths.

"As soon as a woman comes in, she is stripped naked in front of everyone else. When a human being is sentenced, he or she is punished enough. Must the human body be degraded and humiliated as well? Who is responsible for these perverse methods?" 1/n In her prison diary, actress Snehalatha Reddy (pic) wrote what happened to her after she was picked up by police in May 1976. She was held without trial in Bangalore Central Jail, where she endured regular torture. This is what Mahatma Gandhi's followers did in the 1970s. 2/n

God forbid this should be true! But Gumnami Baba said in 1962 that there was "a secret protocol that binds the Government of India to deliver him to allied ‘justice’ if found alive". He said this when asked why he was in hiding. He said it was in "national interest". 1/n Today, we know that there was at least one secret clause in Transfer of Power in 1947. So there could be more! British were good enough to accept that such a clause existed. Our Gandhian leadership concealed it from us throughout as they reaped the harvest of Bose's struggle. 2/n

For all these years i have said that Gumnami Baba was Netaji and one reason he remained that way was that he felt he would be tried under some secret protocol India had entered. People said it was impossible that we Indians would buckle under any pressure of world powers. Really? "My coming out is not in India's interest. India cannot withstand pressure of world powers and UN. People would suffer" -- is this so difficult to understand? What could a third world country, one of the poorest in the world, have done in 1955, 1965 or 1975?

Good decision by @narendramodi ji. Our Govt should ignore demands to bring the Renkoji remains to India as Netaji's. They belong to a Japanese solider named Ichiro Okura. Most people in India reject the air crash theory. @PMOIndia @MEAIndia @AmitShah @PIBHomeAffairs @rohan194 1/n Image Govt tried several times in past to bring these ashes but could not in view of public sentiment against air crash theory. Govt should ask IB to check how much that sentiment has gone up now in this age of social media. The success of movie "Gumnaami" is a good indicator. 2/n
