Orwellian: Routledge refuses to publish my open access book "From the Maidan to the Russia-Ukraine War" which is under contract. They express “concern” with my analysis of the West blocking the peace deal, @elonmusk involvement in promoting my GoFundMe gofundme.com/f/openaccess-b… open access book crowdfunding, my analysis of Ukrainian and US involvement in the Nord Stream bombing, and my analysis of all other conflicts and issues. They state that I have to include "alternative" sources and perspectives.

This unprecedented refusal to publish my book is made by Routledge even though two anonymous reviewers provided extremely favorable reviews and recommended my book publication by Routledge without any substantive changes. And four leading American, British, and Ukrainian experts wrote very favorable endorsements of the book. Several of my book chapters are also based on my updated and expanded peer-reviewed publications.

My book was supposed to be published by Routledge, a major British academic press, under the terms of the signed contract simultaneously as an open access electronic book, paperback, and hardcover the last summer since I submitted my final manuscript in February 2024: routledge.com/our-customers/…

I already paid Routledge the standard open access fee, which, in addition to a University of Ottawa grant, was crowdfunded via GoFundMe & PayPal with over 200 contributions, including by world-renowned American podcasters and journalists, in spite of Ukrainian far-right-linked attempt to block it:
gofundme.com/f/openaccess-b…

But Routledge states that my book cannot be published unless I would revise the entire manuscript, including chapters based on my peer-reviewed publications, and would use other perspectives and alternative sources concerning the Russia-Ukraine war, the peace deal, the Nord Stream bombing, and all other issues and conflicts that I examine in my book, including the EuroMaidan, the Maidan massacre, the war in Donbas, and the far-right. They specifically state that "significant differences of opinion need to be reflected" on the Nord Stream bombing. This essentially means the conspiracy theory of Russian false flag bombing of its own pipeline.

In my two major revisions of the manuscript, I addressed all the comments and suggestions, examined all major narratives and sources, and added hundreds of additional sources which corroborate my analysis. In addition to a Zelensky adviser and a former German chancellor, I cited similar statements by an ex-Israeli prime-minister, the head of Ukrainian delegation, Ukrainian officials close to Zelensky, a Turkish foreign minister, and other corroborating sources concerning the blocking of the peace deal by the US and the UK. I also added statements and suggestions by Victoria Nuland, two members of the Ukrainian delegation and the Turkish president that the US and the UK blocked peace deal which was closed to being finalized. I also added discussions of results of the official German investigation of the Nord Stream bombing and investigations by leading German, US, and Danish media.

I am a Ukrainian and Canadian scholar and the most cited political scientist, who specializes primarily in conflicts in Ukraine. My academic publications include 5 books, 21 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 13 chapters. My new open access book concerning Maidan massacre was just published by a major British academic press: link.springer.com/book/10.1007/9… I have another forthcoming book concerning Ukraine since independence from another major Western academic press. But many books by overnight experts in the conflicts in Ukraine were already published by Routledge and other Western academic and trade presses.

My book is based on the analysis of tens of thousands of primary and secondary sources, overwhelmingly Ukrainian and Western. I cite about 1,500 of them in my book manuscript and its video appendixes. I posted many of such sources concerning the Russia-Ukraine on @X and they reached over 100,000,000 views.

I am now given a choice by Routledge to delay significantly my book publication and to do a full revision of my book using "alternative sources" or to cancel my book contract. But I cannot commit academic fraud and base my book on politically convenient narratives and sources propagated by any government and media. My study does not accept at face value any claims by any governments, the media, the social media, or any other sources, unless they are corroborated by independent and reliable sources or if they go against vested interest.

I can cancel the contract and publish the open access book with another academic press. But the peer-review and publishing process would take close to 1 year and would significantly delay the publication of my book on the crucial ongoing war in Ukraine.

I have never received before such decisions by the publishers concerning my 5 other books and 13 chapters, including chapters in 3 Routledge books. I do not know any such refusals to publish books by Routledge and other such academic presses. This highly irregular and unprecedented decision by Routledge looks like political censorship and is extremely dangerous development.Image This is from peer-review by anonymous expert: "I recommend the book for publication. This will be a very important contribution, based on the unsurpassed broad empirical base, to some of the hotly debated issues of the Russia-Ukraine war, with high attention from the academic and non-academic audiences all over the world.

I will certainly buy this book and recommend it to my library. I would also recommend it to students as a recommended source and essential for those who want to study Ukrainian and Russian politics, post-Soviet revolutions, wars, nationalism, violent conflicts, and political radicalism.

There are very few issues that are more timely for the international public than the Russia-Ukraine war. The book is likely to become one of the most cited sources on the subject. The author is one of the best-known researchers of Ukrainian politics, both in the scientific community and among the non-academic public. He is certainly qualified to write this book. All previously published materials on which parts of the chapters are based have been widely read and cited by both professional and lay audiences. The scholarship of the book is very good and the amount of sources that the author has analyzed is outstanding. The author's attention to factual accuracy is very commendable."

Wow! Nuland basically admits that Ukraine-Russia peace deal, which was close to being finalized in spring 2022, “fell apart” because US, UK & other Western governments “advised” Zelensky government that it was not “good deal” even though even members of Ukrainian delegation stated in recent interviews that this was very good deal, best deal that Ukraine could get & “very real compromise” & that Ukrainian delegation celebrated it with champagne. She basically confirms statements by ex-Israeli PM, head of Ukrainian delegation, Ukrainian officials close to Zelensky, ex-German chancellor & Turkish FM that US & UK blocked this peace deal, which was close to being finalized.

Victoria Nuland does not mention at all Russian war crimes in Bucha, which were inflated & mispresented by politicians, media & self-proclaimed experts as reason for ending peace talks. The peace deal agreement included withdrawal of Russian forces from all territory of Ukraine, with exceptions of Donbas & Crimea, whose status was to be determined at meeting of Putin & Zelensky, in exchange for neutral status & demilitarization of Ukraine.

Hunka debacle: "Releasing names of 900 alleged Nazi war criminals who fled to Canada could embarrass federal government, bureaucrats told. Large numbers of soldiers from a Ukrainian Waffen SS division fled to Canada after the Second World War. Those consulted included members of Canada’s Ukrainian community, records show, but Library and Archives Canada, also known as LAC, did not include Holocaust survivors nor Holocaust scholars who had advocated for a full release of the list of alleged Nazi war criminals, Jewish and Holocaust academics say."

I was not consulted even though I am both scholar researching this issue & Ukrainian Canadian & had leading role in exposing SS Galicia veteran debacle in Canadian parliament. ottawacitizen.com/news/national/…Image "It has been almost a year since MPs of all parties gave two standing ovations to Yaroslav Hunka, a resident of North Bay, Ont., who was described by then House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota as a hero.

But news quickly emerged that Hunka had served in a Ukrainian Waffen SS unit.

The incident became an international embarrassment for Canada as Holocaust historians, Jewish groups and the Polish government pointed out that Hunka’s unit had been involved in war crimes, including massacres of women and children. The division was also used by the Nazis to crush a national uprising in Slovakia, again prompting allegations of war crimes.

But the sight of MPs cheering on a Waffen SS veteran caused intense anger among Canadians, according to documents obtained in June by the Ottawa Citizen using the Access to Information law." ottawacitizen.com/news/national/…Image

One of battalions of Ukrainian drone forces is named Nachtigall after Nachtigall battalion, which was organized by Nazi Germany's Abwehr & Bandera OUN under Shukhevych command. Its members participated in Lviv pogrom of Jews & killed Jews in Vinnytsia in 1941. Commander of current Nachtigall battalion fought in OUN battalion during war in Donbas & posts billboard with photo of SS Galicia division & Nazi SS commander Himmler as recruiting ad for Ukrainian armed forces. He was deputy of Lviv city council from Holos party led by popular singer Vakarchuk.

This battalion participates in ongoing attack of Kursk Region of Russia. This and other mainstreaming of Nazi collaborators & mass murderers is done with de facto approval by Zelensky & Western governments & is exploited by Russian government, which falsely claims that Ukraine is Nazi state. In contrast to condemnation & apologies by Canadian politicians & resignation of head of parliament, Zelensky is still silent about his standing ovation to SS Galicia veteran in Canadian parliament.Image

Ilya Kononov, Visiting Professor at Carleton University from Ukraine: "This story [Maidan massacre] has been meticulously investigated for several years by Canadian-Ukrainian political scientist, professor at the University of Ottawa Ivan Katchanovski. His conclusions are based not only on the testimonies of the participants, but even more so on video recordings of the events, on trace evidence and forensic examinations. Now materials from the trial and the decision of the Svyatoshinsky Court of Kyiv have been added. Forensic examinations have shown that most of the protesters were killed from top to bottom, from the side and in the back. This indicates that they were shot from the windows of the Ukraina Hotel, where the Svoboda MPs had rented rooms in advance, as well as from the roof of the conservatory ( Katchanovski 2023: 192). In several publications, I. Katchanovski cites the words of O. Tyahnybok and R. Koshulynsky, who admitted in different interviews that during a meeting with them, an unnamed representative of the government of one of the Western countries said that the West would act against V. Yanukovych when the number of victims reaches at least 100 ( Katchanovski 2020: 11; Katchanovski 2023: 195). The Canadian researcher shows attempts to falsify the case of the shootings on the Maidan, attempts to disrupt the trial, which were undertaken by the far-right organization "C14", which attacked the court several times.

On October 18, 2023, the Svyatoshinsky District Court of Kyiv issued a verdict blaming "unknown" shooters in addition to the police for the deaths of protesters. The court gave a rather interesting description of the "peaceful march" to the Verkhovna Rada on February 18. This description is more like a description of an unsuccessful putsch: "On February 18, 2014, as a result of a violent confrontation between protesters and law enforcement officers, during which violence was used on both sides, including the hidden use of firearms, 771 activists suffered bodily injuries of varying severity, of which 19 died, 12 of them as a result of gunshot wounds, and a total of 120 activists received gunshot wounds, in addition, 398 law enforcement officers suffered bodily injuries of varying severity, 8 of whom died from gunshot wounds, and a total of 133 law enforcement officers received gunshot wounds" ( Virok 2023). I. Katchanovski commented on the court’s decision: “This is an important official recognition not only because the violence was the most significant case of mass killings, violent crimes and human rights violations in independent Ukraine at that time, but also because of the subsequent conflicts it led to. Notably, the massacre precipitated the violent overthrow of Yanukovych and his government, who were falsely accused of carrying it out. This then escalated into Russia’s annexation of Crimea, the subsequent civil war and Russian intervention in the Donbas, conflicts between Ukraine and Russia, and between Russia and Western states, which Russia dramatically intensified with its illegal invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022” ( Katchanovski 2024).

The most important role in legitimizing the current political regime in Ukraine is played by the sacralization of the events of the acute socio-political crisis of 2013–2014 and the unconstitutional change of power in 2014, which were officially called the “Revolution of Dignity”. O. Tyahnybok, one of the leaders of the Maidan and the head of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda”, admitted that this name was invented by his fellow party members ( Katchanovski 2020: 14).

Officially, the Maidan of 2013–2014 in Ukraine is interpreted as a democratic movement of the people that led to a revolution. Ivan Kachanovsky convincingly showed that the main force of the Maidan were right-wing and far-right organizations, whose influence disproportionately exceeded their numbers. They were directly connected with the leadership of the Maidan protests. All far-right organizations of Ukraine were mobilized to carry out various actions, and they are primarily responsible for the violence and deaths of people on both sides of the barricades. I. Kachanovsky names such organizations as VO Svoboda, Right Sector, C14 (a branch of Svoboda), and Tryzub (a paramilitary branch of the KUN). He qualifies the Right Sector as a “partially radical nationalist and partially fascist or semi-fascist organization.” The goal of the right was not democracy, but a “national revolution” ( Katchanovski 2020: 10)." istorex.org/post/29-07-202…Image

"Canada Says It Won’t Give Arms To Azov, Despite U.S. Policy Change. “Our position remains that we are not – nor will we – be providing support to Azov and affiliated entities.” Ivan Katchanovski, a professor specializing in Ukrainian politics at the University of Ottawa, told The Maple that both the Azov Brigade and the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade are “basically part of the same Azov Movement, which is led by [Biletsky’s] neo-Nazi party.”

There is no evidence, he said, that any Western country has banned military aid from going to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. He added that DND’s statements about not giving support to the Azov Brigade should also be taken with a large grain of salt.

Katchanovski also cast doubt on the U.S. State Department’s claim that Azov has not committed human rights abuses. The National Corps party, Azov’s political wing, has been involved in attacks against Roma people and other violent actions.

In 2018, a U.S. State Department report noted that a Ukrainian group established with support from the National Corps party “attacked and destroyed a Romani camp in Kyiv after its residents failed to respond to their ultimatum to leave the area within 24 hours.”

The U.S. State Department, Katchanovski said, has tried to deflect concerns about its recent move by misleadingly suggesting that Azov Brigade is a newly created formation with no relation to its predecessor units.

“This is quite unbelievable,” Katchanovski said. “This is open support and endorsement by the Biden administration of open neo-Nazis in Ukraine.” readthemaple.com/canada-insists…Image

Now male dual citizens of US, Canada, etc. & Ukraine are banned from leaving Ukraine & can be conscripted by force with de facto US/West approval: "US Embassy in Ukraine: men with dual citizenship will no longer be able to leave the country. The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has warned that Ukraine has revoked the "residence abroad" exception that previously allowed certain Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60 to leave the country.

Source: US Embassy in Ukraine
With this change, men with dual citizenship, including those living in the US, will no longer be able to leave the country.

According to the message of the embassy, Ukrainian legislation does not recognize dual citizenship. Therefore, American-Ukrainian persons with dual citizenship, while in Ukraine, are considered exclusively as citizens of Ukraine, and they are subject to the rights and obligations of citizens of Ukraine. That is, under martial law in Ukraine, men aged 18 to 60 are prohibited from leaving the country.

The embassy noted that previously persons with dual American-Ukrainian citizenship of this group could enter Ukraine and then leave it if they deregistered their place of residence in Ukraine and registered their place of residence in the United States. As of June 1, this exception was canceled.

Literally: "If you are in Ukraine and cannot leave the country, shelter in place and obey all local regulations.

If you are not currently in Ukraine, we strongly recommend that male US citizens between the ages of 18 and 60 who also hold Ukrainian citizenship or are applying for Ukrainian citizenship and do not wish to remain in Ukraine indefinitely refrain from any travel to of Ukraine. Ukraine proxy war can escalate into NATO-Russia war: "As Russia Advances, NATO Considers Sending Trainers Into Ukraine. The move could draw the United States and Europe more directly into the war. The Biden administration continues to say there will be no American troops on the ground. NATO allies are inching closer to sending troops into Ukraine to train Ukrainian forces, a move that would be another blurring of a previous red line and could draw the United States and Europe more directly into the war.

Ukraine’s manpower shortage has reached a critical point, and its position on the battlefield in recent weeks has seriously worsened as Russia has accelerated its advances to take advantage of delays in shipments of American weapons. As a result, Ukrainian officials have asked their American and NATO counterparts to help train 150,000 new recruits closer to the front line for faster deployment.
So far the United States has said no, but Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Thursday that a NATO deployment of trainers appeared inevitable. “We’ll get there eventually, over time,” he said.

For now, he said, an effort inside Ukraine would put “a bunch of NATO trainers at risk” and would most likely mean deciding whether to use precious air defenses to protect the trainers instead of critical Ukrainian infrastructure near the battlefield. General Brown briefed reporters on his plane en route to a NATO meeting in Brussels.

As a part of NATO, the United States would be obligated under the alliance’s treaty to aid in the defense of any attack on the trainers, potentially dragging America into the war."
nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/…Image "President Emmanuel Macron of France said that “nothing should be ruled out” when it comes to sending Western troops to Ukraine. Mr. Macron has doubled down on his comment since, including after senior American diplomats asked him to stop.

The government of Estonia has not ruled out the possibility of sending troops to western Ukraine to take over rear roles that could free Ukrainian troops to go to the front, Estonia’s national security adviser said this week.

Lithuania’s foreign minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, backed Mr. Macron’s stance in an interview with the The Guardian last week. “Our troops have been training Ukrainians in Ukraine before the war,” he said, adding, “So returning to this tradition might be quite doable.”

The American military has done training for Ukrainian troops in Poland, Germany and the United States, but pulling troops out of Ukraine is time consuming. American officials now acknowledge that the current training by Ukrainian forces is not sufficient, and that they need better and faster training to push back on an expected Russian drive this summer.

The United States used to help run a NATO training program at Yavoriv, in western Ukraine, but American troops were pulled out from there at the start of the war."archive.is/AQfkv

Bloomberg propagates fakes: " In Ukraine, it was the country’s infamously corrupt then-President Viktor Yanukovych who broke. Despite deploying riot police, plainclothes thugs nicknamed “titushki” and, finally, snipers who fired live rounds into the crowds, he proved unable to drive protesters from the streets, and eventually fled to exile in Russia. In Georgia last week, carbon copies of the Ukrainian titushki were thrown into action, beating protest leaders, opposition politicians and even an inconvenient academic outside their homes.

Georgia is having its “Maidan moment.” With parallels to Ukraine mounting fast, the question for the US and Europe is how to respond; for the protesters, it’s whether they should also have a “Yanukovych moment,” in which they try to topple the government."

Karatnycky invents in @nypost conspiracy theory that Ukrainian far-right (Right Sector/Azov, Svoboda) massacred Maidan protesters & police on behalf of Russian security services & Yanukovych government. He cannot longer deny evidence of far-right involvement that is revealed in my studies & he peddlers this fraud.

"Eighty protesters and 12 militia men were killed during a government assault on the Maidan Square on Feb. 20, 2014, killings Maté claims were orchestrated by the far-right. While several far-right protesters were lightly armed, and there’s some evidence of snipers shooting at both sides, it is highly likely that the mass killings were a provocation orchestrated by Russia’s security services and their Ukrainian minions, who had significantly infiltrated far-right Ukrainian groups over the years." nypost.com/2024/05/09/opi…Image The “snipers’ massacre” on the Maidan in Ukraine
"Content analysis of synchronized videos, testimonies by several hundred witnesses, confessions by 14 self-admitted members of Maidan sniper groups, and bullet hole locations show that both the police and protesters were massacred by Maidan snipers located in Maidan-controlled buildings and areas. Content analysis of synchronized videos revealed that the specific time and direction of shooting by Berkut policemen, who were charged with the massacre, did not coincide with the killing of specific protesters. Testimonies by the absolute majority of wounded protesters and some 100 witnesses and forensic examinations by ballistic and medical experts for the Maidan massacre trial and investigation in Ukraine corroborate this. The article shows that the false-flag massacre was rationally organized and carried out with the involvement of oligarchic and far-right elements of the Maidan opposition to overthrow the incumbent government in Ukraine."tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
