IAF requires min 42 Squadrons.
2002 : less than 30 squadrons capable. Decision to reinforce IAF with modern jets taken. Shortlisting of suitable machines begins.
2003 : Process of technical specs, weapon systems undertaken. MMRCA decision taken 2004: Daasault Rafale, Saab Gripen & Eurofighter Typhoon shortlisted as possible suppliers.
2006: Rafale becomes the first choice. In the meantime our capable Squadrons drops to 26.
Till 2013 negotiations take place. Then A K Anthony, Defense minister, says we don't have money
