2/5 #COVID19 & #publichealth measures to #SlowtheSpread have brought significant challenges to Canadians. This Victoria Day #LongWeekend, many are venturing out to enjoy the warmer weather & amenities that are now opening up.
3/5 Careful reopening is thanks to the great progress Canadians have made to #PlanktheCurve. As we continue to descend the tricky path down the curve w\ #COVID19 still circulating in areas of 🇨🇦, keep on planking it with #goodhygiene. #OutSmartEpidemics

1/4 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: With slowed epidemic growth & the Victoria Day long weekend upon us, getting outside is top of mind. At the same time, many Canadians are concerned about how we can go out safely. This is a reasonable concern.
2/4 As we continue down the curve, there are lessons to be learnt from other countries that are ahead of us on this path. Move too soon, relax too much & COVID-19 will come back. #COVID19 is still active in many areas of 🇨🇦, so we must remain vigilant.
3/4 The reality is that #COVID19 is still spreading in some areas and it will be with us for the foreseeable future. So as local authorities continue to slowly reopen recreational, social, & economic spaces, the right & safest way to go out is to go OUT SMART. #OutSmartEpidemics

2/4 It’s #MentalHealthWeek and we can all use some good news. Today I’m sharing the good news stat that over 26,000 or 43% of all confirmed #COVID19 cases in Canada are now recovered from their illness! I wish them all good health!
3/4 We must continue to make our way carefully down the curve, remembering that the many of the #PublicHealth measures that helped us #PlanktheCurve will continue to serve us well as we work to #CrushtheCurve.

1/43 So far I've supported @fordnation's response to the #COVID19 pandemic in #ONpoli, but this marks a turning point that recklessly plays with fire & a return to partisan agendas that will explode the death rate in rural Ontario

2/43 #THREAD Re #COVID19 in #ONpoli #CDNpoli cc @fordnation

Although I appreciate the political pressures on Premier Ford to re-open the economy, he's become insulated in a #TOpoli bubble that is utterly tone deaf & detrimental to Conservative strongholds in cottage country
3/43 #THREAD Re #COVID19 in #ONpoli #CDNpoli cc @fordnation

I'm speaking in these partisan terms in an effort to get through to Premier Ford, that his predetermined decision to send urban Ontario to cottage country for the May 2-4 holiday is so mistaken it will cost him votes

1/5 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: As we #PlankTheCurve, we’re still seeing worrisome transmission events. In addition to vulnerabilities in long-term care homes, we’re tackling spread in certain work settings & congregate housing.
2/5 #Nunavut reported a 1st case of #COVID19 & cases are ↑ in First Nations communities in several provinces. We must #ProtectTheVulnerable & ramp up #TestandTrace to find where chains of transmission are occurring.
3/5 Having learned hard lessons & suffered the heartache of #COVID19 in long-term care homes, we now face introductions/spread in certain work & congregate housing settings. We must act fast to prevent further tragedy. #CrushtheCurve

1/11 Yesterday I presented an update on the progress that Canadians have made to #FlattenTheCurve of #COVID19. We also looked at some of the short-term predictions from our real-data forecasting models. canada.ca/content/dam/ph…
2/11 The #COVID19 forecast for 🇨🇦 is looking better, though we are not entirely out of the woods yet. We must remain mindful that our projections are only as reliable as our actions. #PlankTheCurve #PhysicalDistancing #WashYourHands
3/11 If we maintain measures that keep the #COVID19 growth rate down and prevent outbreaks and potential rebound of spread, we stand the best chance of remaining on this favourable trajectory. #KeepItUp #PlankTheCurve

2/8 Warmer weather & longer days can make us feel a bit antsy, as we sympathise with the kids in the back seat who wearily ask – Are we there yet? Though we’re not quite, we are on the right track & getting closer all the time. #COVID19 #KeepItUp
3/8 #COVID19 has exposed the fragility of circumstances for some populations – especially those living in long-term care homes or group housing + those experiencing homelessness or vulnerable indigenous communities. #ProtecttheVulnerable

1/8 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: current data (~ 2 weeks behind present), show that our collective efforts over the past several weeks have been able to slow down the epidemic. The weeks ahead will tell if we’ve kept up our efforts.
2/8 🇨🇦’s report card on #StaycationfortheNation is yet to come in - while we’re all hoping that we’ve maintained #SlowtheSpread of #COVID19, we must double down on efforts to stamp out outbreaks in high risk settings. #StayHomeSaveLives

1/4 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: Despite early signs that the epidemic is slowing, nationally, we are just beginning the marathon. W\ COVID-19’s prolonged clinical course, hospitalisations, critical cases & deaths are continuing. #ProtectTheVulnerable e Image

1/6 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: many deaths are linked to outbreaks in long term care facilities in several provinces. Though new data continue to come in, as of now, at least 285 (40%) of 717 reported deaths are linked to these outbreaks. #ProtecttheVulnerable Image
2/6 Sadly, because #COVID19 can have a prolonged clinical course, we expect deaths will continue to increase even as the epidemic growth rate slows down. #StayHomeSaveLives #ProtectTheVulnerable
3/6 To save lives, families, communities & businesses across Canada have shifted their behaviours to #SlowtheSpread and help break the chains of transmission of #COVID19. #PlanktheCurve

1/4 #GOC modelling numbers help us to visualise how the epidemic might unfold over the coming months, so we can plan accordingly. Predicted outcomes (best-case vs. worst-case scenarios) of these models are dependant on our actions. #COVID19 #StayHome bit.ly/2wpzsCu
2/4 The numbers are hard to bear but knowing what the options are, I know we are all convinced that crushing this epidemic curve is the right way out of a bad trajectory. #FlattentheCurve ➡️ #PlanktheCurve #CrushtheCurve bit.ly/3ecOEUw
3/4 This is because our actions (#publichealth measures, #StayHome, #PhysicalDistancing) are key parameters or assumptions used in the model to predict future outcomes, like the rate of growth/direction of the #COVID19 epidemic trajectory. #PlanktheCurve

1/6 #COVID19 key concerns in 🇨🇦: Today #GOC released modelling #s that attempt to show how the epidemic might unfold over the coming months, based on our knowledge of how the virus behaves & the potential impact of #publichealth measures. Image
2/6 Models are not crystal balls & we can’t predict the future with them, however, they do help us to plan and they tell us that our collective actions can have a direct and significant impact on the epidemic trajectory. #COVID19 #TogetherApart
3/6 While the numbers may seem stark, 🇨🇦’s modelling demonstrates that we still have an opportunity to control the epidemic & save lives. We cannot prevent every death, but we must prevent all the deaths we can. #COVID19 #TogetherApart bit.ly/2wpzsCu
