Pretty disappointed with how #TheBusiness portrayed me. I told a much larger story than this, and though it is well summed up with an angst around affordability that doesn’t go away, including rent, petrol, food, essentials (not mentioned) it was so much more than that. #auspol
There was no mention of the #RoyMorgan #unemployment statistic of 8.5%, nor that the ABS figure of 4% is fanciful in not counting anyone as unemployed who works just one hour a week, or has weeks off having worked in the gig economy, or who is sick, injured, etc. #auspol
That employees are working those #jobs created by the need to clean up after the recent #floods. That right now employment going down - is to be expected - as the #casual labour market has soaked up the extra workers needed and under and unemployed people have stepped up. #auspol

Dear Job Seeker,

#Unemployment is a condition no one enjoys.

Why?

It's hard! Really hard! But this moment can be the best in your life in your career. It was the best moment in my life.

Read on with me:
Being jobless can be challenging. It can bite hard into your bones, making you look like a false reflection of your true self.
Depending on the length, it can make you lose confidence in yourself and give up on life entirely.

UPDATE: I was confirmed by text message received yesterday (15/1) from a PCR test taken on 11/1 to have #COVID19 I am now self-isolating at home until the 18/1 as per the seven day mandate to do so. However, I took a RAT test on 13/1 it was negative and worked yesterday. #auspol
I received the official PCR result after finishing work yesterday at 4pm. I felt positively awful for relying on the #RAT test the has said I am negative now twice. I took another RAT test immediately after getting home yesterday. How can we rely on RATs if they contradict PCRs?
I rang the #COVID19 hotline and spoke to a women who suggested two possibilities: 1) The virus has now cleared my system and I am no longer infectious (though still must isolate for seven days from #PCR test), and 2) the #RAT test may be from a faulty batch. #auspol

This is hard to write but it is true for many. What I’m about to say is a harsh reality of what people go through.

What I am about to say is also the reason why a lot of people don’t ask for help.

People do not ask for help because of the fears and stigmas that exist.

#hope
Here Is Something to think about,

What if you were a #singleparent with a #child

You work full time for $15.00/hr

You take home roughly $960.00 per paycheck (bi-weekly after taxes)

#singleparent #parenting #Blessed #grateful #calgary #calgarylife #alberta #yyc

@EveryAlbertan
Your bills per month:

$1,000 or more for rent
$150 or more for cable/internet
$250 or more for utilities
$150 per month for car insurance

So let’s do the math

You bring home about
$1,920.00 a month

Your bills average about $1,500(give or take)

Hi everyone 👋

An update from me.

For 16 yrs I have had the incredible privilege of being a Greens Senator for WA. I will be forever grateful for the trust & support you have given me.

I want to let you know that my time in Parliament is finishing soon.

👇
I am extraordinarily proud to have been part of our Greens Senate team and the only party prepared to call out growing inequality and advocate for genuine climate action.

Leaving the Senate is not a decision I’ve taken lightly.
Being your voice in Parliament has been one of the biggest honours of my life. After more than 16 years, it’s time to hand on the baton.

This bill makes budget savings at the expense of people at risk of poverty.

It will 'save' the Gov $191 million over 12 months.

On average these changes will take $457 from #JobSeekers and $346 from people on Youth Allowance.

Email your MP to oppose ausgreens.good.do/jobseeker/emai…
👉WHAT IS THIS NASTY BILL?
The Streamlined Participation Requirements Bill will introduce digital employment services, for people on #JobSeeker, Youth Allowance, Parenting Payment and Special Benefit for nominated visa holders.
The Government is rushing to pass a bill that will make savings out of people looking for work and impact hundreds of thousands of people on income support.

Today the Gov gagged the Senate & allowed no time to even debate the first so-called real permanent increase to #Jobseeker since 1994.

After more than a decade campaigning & tireless advocacy, we should be celebrating but there hasn’t been any celebrating & there won’t be.
Today there is only distress and anger.

I share that distress and anger.

I stood in here 1 yr ago and thanked the Gov for doubling the #Jobseeker payment when the pandemic hit saying I had tears in my eyes when I heard.
Well I had tears in my eyes when I heard about this pathetic increase – tears of distress, anger and despair.

When I was 25, I went to a job interview with the director of a small IT company in St Kilda, who insisted on meeting at his office at 6pm, outside work hours. As I walked in, the last employee was walking out, and I was left alone with the owner, a very large man of...

Now, he flipped the papers in front of him this way and that, and said “this isn’t the right one”. I advised him that his receptionist *had* received the...

IDK how many feel as I do that the Morrison lead government will not bring out #Budget2021
For all thinking people it appears the we are now in an undeclared Federal election campaign
The impact of the Opposition`s attack on all of Morrison`s failures
2
has finally cut through
Media cannot find positives to promote this LNP government any further
A further eroding of the Democratic process in shutting down debate in #HoR question time cannot be defended by the #MSM, nor can it be glossed over
3
Also, the impact of the new US Biden admin with it`s #NetZeroBy2050 & return to the #ParisAgreement will see Morrison not only further sidelined by global powers it will see him totally isolated in #ClimateChangeDenialism

The impact on reducing #covidstimulus

Hey can someone who has political clout push for a guarantee from @GregHuntMP @ScottMorrisonMP that the 20 #BetterAccess Medicare subsidised sessions will be in place for the entirety of 2021 (at least)? Continuity of #mentalhealth care and #suicideprevention relies on planning.
Many people plan carefully to stretch their sessions out across a year, which means that they may be wary of utilising 10 in the first half of the year, only to find that they're then without access to affordable care if the system changes again.
In an ideal world, there would be mass availability of bulk billing psychologists and psychiatrists, but there are not. At the very least this system allows some people to afford care, but being able to budget their out of pocket costs means knowing how long coverage will last.

.@theage confirms their Peter Costello influence with one of 2020's most ridiculous and biased articles. A thread ⬇️⬇️ #auspol #springst #IstandwithDan
Firstly, the headline. Does anyone legitimately fear Dan? I know this is an opinion piece but when your view is nonsense it has to be called out. #auspol #springst #IstandwithDan
Our State Premiers (not just Dan) were thrust into the 'spotlight' as @ScottMorrisonMP delegated the pandemic response to the states. Morrison wasn't making decisions that mattered because is lazy and doesn't give a f**k. #auspol #springst #IStandwithDan #ParttimePM

*UPDATE ON MAKING A SUBMISSION TO #JOBSEEKER SENATE INQUIRY*

This week the Government introduced legislation that will reduce the coronavirus supplement to $150 per fortnight and extend the supplement to March 2021.
We managed to refer it to a Senate inquiry for scrutiny however we've only been given a small amount of time to conduct the inquiry as the Government wants to pass it before the end of the year and there are only two sitting weeks left.
I encourage people to make a submission to this inquiry. These can be submitted by individuals and organisations to send in their opinions and proposals about the bill.

It's so important we hear from the people who will be impacted by this cut.

When the COVID Supplement is reduced by a further $100 a fortnight on January 1, jobseekers, single parents, and students will be forced to live off payments of only $50 a day.

50 reasons why $50 a day is not enough to live on

👇👇👇 #Jobseeker
1. It makes it difficult to find and maintain work
2. It makes it near impossible to afford necessary medication
3. It makes it difficult to afford to visit the GP when you’re unwell
4. It makes it near impossible to afford specialist medical appointments
5. It makes it near impossible to access mental health services and supports
6. It makes it near impossible to afford mobility aids

Thread. I'm going to talk about the interactive role between #Centrelink and Job Service Providers #JSP's. Centrelink runs under a different department from outsourced, privatised, JSPs. Centrelink wants us off #Jobseeker payments, so send us to JSPs.
When we talk to Centrelink on the phone, we may be talking to a government employee who knows what they are talking about, or an outsourced phone centre worker who is trained as far as box ticking. Either will tell us our situation as if it's fact, even if it isn't.
JSPs often only exist to be JSPs, including not for profit, where CEO's and Directors can still pay themselves huge incomes, or divert income to other enterprises. JSPs like Sarina Russo whose worth is $100m of public funds, profit administering the underemployed/unemployed.

The Government has today introduced legislation that will make the #CashlessDebitCard permanent in the current trial sites and introduce it to the Northern Territory and Cape York.

This is a toxic piece of legislation. This card is denying people their dignity & quality of life
The Minister needs to come clean about whether the pause on new #Jobseeker recipients being placed on the Cashless Debit Card will continue or not.

It is highly likely that people newly on income support will now be put on the card.
Just because people are without employment it does not mean that they cannot manage their finances. It is insulting and paternalistic.

This Government has an agenda and it is stigmatising and demeaning people who need to access the social safety net.

Stitch-up alert! PM’s claim reported in @Australian that current #JobSeeker rate is barrier to biz hiring is based on dodgy data. Govt were pre-empting yesterday's release of employer survey data from National Skills Commission. What does this data actually show? {THREAD} 1)
NSC surveyed 2324 employers 25 May-mid-June. Far from showing generalised unmet labour shortages only 555 emplyrs (25%) were recruiting additional staff (the rest were not). Of these firms 166 (30%) said they were experiencing "or expected to have" difficulty filing vacancies 2)
Only 73 firms experiencing hiring difficulty said they didnt have enough applicants. 73 self-defined shortages is hardly a measure of labour demand across the economy. In fact, more firms said applicants lacked the required technical skills or experience (47% or 78 firms). 3)

A $75/week increase in #JobSeeker is less than the main advocacy groups were calling for BEFORE the COVID-19 Supplement.

A raise of only $75 a week is nowhere near the poverty line, meaning the government will, essentially, continue to put those who need assistance into poverty
Such a low raise will not help people, especially during this time of economic recession.

The government will use this small increase to say "hey, we raised the rate, you're just greedy asking for more" when they KNOW that this isn't enough.
As per the Anglicare Rental Affordability Snapshot, with the COVID Supplement, only 1.5% of rental properties are affordable. With effectively a $200/week payment cut from the supplement, this will drastically decrease the availability of affordable housing to those who need it.
