Tidy Up Tuesday - A Summer 2024 UFO Club Finish

Welcome to another edition of Tidy Up Tuesday!!  I'm here to share my first UFO finish of the quarter.  It's been a pleasure to make a young man's quilt dreams come true.

If you're on Ravelry you may have already seen it...

This special quilt for a special young man revolves around the following sweatshirt...

... Which was donated to the cause by his mother.  It belonged to her, but she appreciated the fact that he wasn't interested in parting with any of his new shirts as he headed off to campus.

The accompanying shirts...

Shown below in a throw-sized setting, just to see what I had to work with:

Next...

The rearranging began to transform the throw into an XL Twin bed quilt layout.  It took several iterations before I was happy enough to send this photo for recipient approval:

The same thing happened with the addition of the sashing and cornerstones.  Those strips and squares got moved around until things fell into place:

Once recipient approval was received, the columns were sewn...

Pairs were joined...

And...

Sections were assembled:

Here is the completed quilt top:

Special thanks to @britt_quilts for the use of her longarm quilting machine and the help loading the quilt components.  Your machine make that process super scary to me!  Quilt a little, lunch a little...

Quilt a little, art a little and at the end of the day...

It was the first quilting marathon that I've had in many months, but the quilting was DONE:

Only a few steps left!!!

The squaring up is complete...

Attaching the binding...

Complete with a game of "Binding Chicken", but I won with 12 inches to spare:

Finishing the edges - Look!  There's even a scrap of ORANGE shirt making up one of the cornerstones:

Here is the porch swing photo:

The Work Man T-Quilt was c
ompleted August 7, 2024 - nearly 10 DAYS prior to Move-In Day.  Whew!!  That was a bit too close for comfort, but thanks to Britt's assist, I got it done.

If any of this looks familiar...

You might have seen a few highlights in a recent RSC post.  My apologies, but I felt the quilt needed a post of its own.

Until next time...

ScrapHappy Saturday - RSC24 - Week 24

Welcome to Week 24 of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and the latest edition of Tidy Up Tuesday!!  This week was filled to the brim with activities and artwork.  BLUE sewing???  Obviously, busy enough that I didn't get my post written in a timely fashion.

Keep reading to find out...

SUNDAY - This week began with my usual Weekly Morning Art Zoom.  I worked on entries for the Index Card a Day challenge...

Lavender and Waves shown above.  Potpourri and Orange, below.

After lunch, I enjoyed a visit with Knittingsuek:

MONDAY - Work was preceded by a bit of art.  I started the journal page last night and added a few more details this morning.  Other members of the Curiosity Collective will be working on theirs before I get home this afternoon:

TUESDAY - Work was scheduled for today, but I took time to watch the latest class from Get Messy and decided that this quote was what I wanted for my journal page:

After work, I was off to the doctor to see if he can figure out why I'm coughing...  Again.

What did he say, Joyful???

(Apparently...)  There's nothing wrong.  Grr!  Just like when you take a car to the mechanic and it won't make the noise it's been making... I didn't cough ONCE during the entire appointment.  Sigh...  I'm guessing this means that it's just my reflux going through the roof and I'll have to be more careful about what I'm eating, so as not to aggravate it further.

WEDNESDAY - Work

My computer start page had me thinking of the RSC Quilters with this clear BLUE water:

After work, I raced home for my weekly Zoom call with LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color:

THURSDAY - Today was the start of my 4-day weekend!!!  :o))

What a treat it was to visit with the lovely ladies of my (Weekly) Morning Quilt Bee:

After errands and some lunch, I dove into the Watercolor Mastery class series with Emily Olson that I signed  up for earlier this month.  I mixed up my own pinks for the flower painting below:

FRIDAY - I was super excited to attend Knit Group...

But first I did a bit of BLUE binding:

Once that was done, I headed out to meet Tracy at our favorite coffee shop, as the rest of the group members were busy with summer plans (or sleeping late) instead of knitting:

SATURDAY - It's LINK PARTY day for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge!  I hope you visited Angela @ So Scrappy to see what the RSC Quilters have been up to this week.  I was focused on making headway on this month's donation project and only managed to copy her link for my post... You know the one?  The post that I was too busy to release.

Here is some BLUE scrap sewing that I hope will make up for neglecting to link up earlier:

This afternoon I had an art Zoom with Claudette @thecreativeflourish making affirmation cards.  I repeated the process on my journal page shown in the top left of the photo below:

Turquoise/teal are shades of BLUE, right?  See!  I was thinking of my RSC Quilter friends (even if I have been hit or miss in visiting everyone's posts lately.)  Time is a limited resource and I've been spending more of mine on art this month.  Never fear... I'm still quilting!  Just not quite so much as I used to.

Note to my regular readers...

My apologies to those of you who missed my post over the weekend.  Thank you to those of you who wrote to check up on me!  I'm doing ok.  My back is MUCH better!  Although, not quite 100%, but my pain level is down at the lower end of the scale and most often residing at a dull ache, as opposed to the level 10 that it had been.

Until next time...
Get SCRAPPY!!

The 100 Day Project - Week 11

Welcome to Week 11 of the #100Days100ThingsDecluttered new mini-series here on The Joyful Quilter!!  I started The 100 Day Project on February 18th.  I'm still shocked that I finally committed to it.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I have been hesitant to participate before now.  I'm releasing weekly updates for those of you who might be interested in seeing what goes out the door.

What's your project, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  You can read about it HERE.  That link will tell you all about my project.

While I have exceeded my goal...

I'm still NOT stopping!!  I am continuing to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I really want to free up MORE space for more creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Eleven from all around the house, studio and garage:

22 balls of yarn gifted
  1 shopping bag
  1 old magazine
  2 outdated food items
  1 handful of fabric scraps
12 buttons

Week 11 Total: 39/100

Updated Project Total:  293/100

Here we are with a number REALLY close to another milestone...

So I went on a hunt for 7 additional items and found the following:

1 duplicate nail polish
1 ball of yarn
1 gift bag
1 package of dried out pigment ink
3 unused eyeglass cases

Revised Week 11 Total:  46/100

UPDATED PROJECT TOTAL: 300/100!!!

Thank you to those of you who continue to encourage my weekly decluttering efforts!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along!  Jeanne @ Loving Retirement responded to my post with the following:

I am so impressed that you are still decluttering! I did get through two closets of clothes and added another box to donate along with a little more in the garbage bin! I finally got things donated today - some of the kitchen items really wanted to stay but I got them to the thrift shop just in time!

I replied with something like this:

Thanks, Jeanne! Congrats on getting more out of the house!

Please know that...

I will continue decluttering through the end of the 100 Day Challenge.  My goal for the past week was to focus on the studio.  While it doesn't sound like it, I'm calling the week a success because the majority of the items listed came from there.  Come back next week to see what goes in the box during the next 7 days.

Welcome to Week 10 of the #100Days100ThingsDecluttered new mini-series here on The Joyful Quilter!!  I started The 100 Day Project on February 18th.  I'm still shocked that I finally committed to it.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I have been hesitant to participate before now.  I'm releasing weekly updates for those of you who might be interested in seeing what goes out the door.  (This one just didn't get scheduled properly so you are seeing it a little later than normal.)

What's your project, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  You can read about it HERE.  That link will tell you all about my project.

In case you missed the news...

Current Project Total:  200/100!!!

While I have exceeded my goal...

I'm still NOT stopping!!  I am continuing to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I really want to free up MORE space for more creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Ten from all around the house, studio and garage:

16 balls of yarn donated
1 cardboard box
4 baby outfits
2 baby blankets
1 rattle
1 baby washcloth
3 bottles of expired vitamins
1 empty plastic bottle found in the freezer
16 clothing items
1 pkg fuzzy sticks
4 sheets of packing paper
1 bag of kid toys

Week 10 Total: 54/100

Updated Project Total:  254/100

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts last week!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along!  Jeanne @ Loving Retirement! had the following to say:

Great job - you are now at 200% and going for more!!! I am decluttering too. I have cleaned basement shelves that house kitchen stuff. I thought it was time to get rid of the egg beater and much more. Before heading to thrift shop, I'll make a sweep through a couple of closets.

I'm thrilled to report...

That I'm still chugging along at this decluttering thing.  Unfortunately, I see potential for use of so many items that it can be challenging to let things go.  My main goal for this week was to focus my efforts in the studio, I ended up excavating a tote of sentimental items and I also emptied a packing box.  Yay! Even though it doesn't sound like much, I'm calling it MISSION ACCOMPLISHED for the week.  Come back next week to see what goes in the box during the next 7 days.

The 100 Day Project - #100Days100ThingsDecluttered - Week 9

Welcome to Week 9 of the #100Days100ThingsDecluttered new mini-series here on The Joyful Quilter!!

While I have met my goal...

I'm NOT stopping there!!  I am continuing to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I still need to free up MORE space for more creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Nine from all around the house, studio and garage:

32 balls of yarn donated
12 balls of yarn gifted

But, WAIT, there's more...

Another trip through the closet turned up the following items:

1 tote bag
2 prs. pants
1 dress
1 flat sheet (without a mate)

Week 9 Total: 49/100

Updated Project Total:  195/100

When I realized how close I was to 200, I decided to take another wander around the studio and found the following items that could go:

1 gift bag
1 sticky ink pen
1 bottle of smelly paint
1 empty bottle of hand sanitizer left sitting on the counter for weeks
1  FQ of fabric that I will never choose to use

Additional Items: 5/100

Revised Project Total:  200/100!!!

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts last week!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along!  Kathleen @ Kathleen McMusing had the following to say:

Hooray. Just pulled 2 sets of sheets and a set of towels for the recycling pile! Congrats on your decluttering - its commendable!

This was my response:
  1. That's a great start, Kathleen, because every little bit helps!  I know you just had a big clean out at the apartment, but there's always more to part with, isn't there?

Nann @ With Strings Attached reported with the following:

  1. I have two boxes of stuff to take to the church rummage sale.

To which I replied:
  1. Excellent, Nann!  I'm glad you were able to gather that much stuff for a worthy cause.  The question is... Can you see a difference in the space where the items have been removed?  In my case, the answer is usually a resounding NO!!!  That just means I'll need to head back to that area for another pass, which is what I plan to do with my closet over the weekend.

I'm thrilled to report...

I managed to follow through with another pass through my closet over the weekend, but I didn't get rid of as many items as I had hoped.  Come back next week to see what goes in the box during the next 7 days.  While my main goal in the coming week is to focus my efforts in the studio, I may wander through the clothes again and part with a few more items.

The 100 Day Project - #100Days100ThingsDecluttered - Week 6

Welcome to Week 6 of the #100Days100ThingsDecluttered new mini-series here on The Joyful Quilter!!  I started The 100 Day Project on February 18th.  I'm still shocked that I finally committed to it.  It's particularly popular on Instagram.  I have been hesitant to participate before now.  I'll be releasing weekly updates for those of you who might be interested in seeing what goes out the door.

What's your project, again, Joyful???

I signed up with a different idea in mind than most.  You can read about it HERE.  That link will tell you all about my project.

The BIG project update last week was...

#100Days100ThingsDecluttered Project Total: 100/100!!!

Never fear...

I'm NOT stopping here!!  I will continue to declutter my home and studio for the entirety of the 100 Day Project.  I still need to free up MORE space for more creativity.

Here's my progress for Week Six from all around the house, studio and garage:

1 stoneware pan (that I never use)
8 airplane wheels (removed from my longarm quilting machine a number of years ago and saved for WHY?!)
1 pair of rain boots/gardening boots (that hurt my feet)
6 iron-on patches from a game at a long ago Quilt Retreat
1 vintage knitting row counter
2 misc. plastic pieces (recycled)
1 tissue box (saved for making an art journal, but haven't - there will be another when it's time)

Week 6 Total: 20/100

Updated Project Total:  120/100

Thank you to those of you who encouraged me in my decluttering efforts last week!  I appreciate your kind comments and your willingness to cheer me along!  Gail @ JustGail's Blog left the following report:

I've had going through my clothes since I retired. That was fall of 2019. I finally got a start last week. I didn't bag up as much as I'd hoped, but it's a start. There's a bit more room on the closet shelves and at least what's there is now in nice folded stacks. I'll get there, not in 100 days 100 items fashion, but it will get done. Then on to...some other category (makeup? hair accessories?) or location (bathroom? kitchen?)
You are doing fantastic on your progress!

Here was my response:

Congratulations on your successful start on your decluttering journey, Gail, and thank you for cheering me along! I need to get in my closet to remove a layer of unworn items. Maybe next week and then I want to really focus on the studio. Wish me luck!

You might have noticed that my closet clean-out hasn't happened, but come back next week to see what goes in the box during the next 7 days.  I haven't given up hope.
