When Grief Crowds Your Day -Postcard Friendship Friday #466

This past week I received devastating news.   A young man whom I've known for many years, who had spent time volunteering in our non-profit organization, took his own life.

If you are thinking of taking that way out, please PLEASE talk to someone before going through with it.  The pain and devastation left behind a suicide is more than words can describe...It may seem like an easy out--but taking your own life is a final solution to a passing circumstance--even though it may feel the circumstances you face are permanent.

Nothing is permanent in life.  Please, get some help.  You know who you are.  God knows and I am praying for you.

I have no other words to say just now--only sadness.  Please join me in praying for his precious family.

Goodbye Dear old Friend

Yesterday my dear old friend Vern called to say goodbye.  He said he would greet my Beloved and two babies when he got there and told me he was praying for me.  Those were his last words.  Soon after he called, Vern flew away to heaven--I didn't realize how close he was to flying away from this world.

My Friend was 92 and had lived a long life full of years.  He prayed for me every day...Vern was one of my best buddies and I loved him well.  It has been an honor to know this wonderful man.

He leaves a HUGE hole in the lives of his family and friends--but I know he's in a better place now.  He can run and jump with the best of them--and I know he is rejoicing at reuniting with his son, daughter, sisters, son-in-law, and his beloved  Edie.

Farewell old Friend.  I miss you.

Goodbye My Beloved

My Beloved flew away four years, fifteen minutes ago.  I am praising God through my tears.

And my prayers go out for all of you who have lost your dearest ones.  We are not alone, sweet Friends who mourn.  We are not alone.  God is near to the brokenhearted.

I Will Always Miss You

Just about now, three years ago, my Beloved Husband was being rushed to the hospital by ambulance.  Today is a difficult day.  Strange how life can change in an instant.  Strange.  Sometimes I still can't believe he is gone.

I am grateful to God for bringing Alan in to my life and for the wonderful adventure we had together...  I am so thankful for the lovely children he gave to me and for the love we shared.  I will always miss him.

When Can Their Glory Fade -Postcard Friendship Friday #359

I apologize for posting Postcard Friendship Friday later than usual.  I wanted to add some of the pictures we took on Memorial Day as we visited my Dad and Uncle Kelly's graves yesterday.  Our family has been bringing flowers to Daddy's grave on  Memorial  Day since he left us nearly five years ago.  He fought in WW2 and was a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany.  He was my hero.

This year we also visited Uncle Kelly.  We had been unaware Dad's younger brother had been buried in the same cemetery as Dad.  We left flowers on his grave, too.  It was a poignant moment for all of us.

May God bless the families and friends of all the brave men and women who have fought for their country and who sacrificed so much.

Be Still, Sad Heart -Postcard Friendship Friday #286

It is Halloween tomorrow, but that holiday pales in comparison to today's anniversary--one year ago today, my Beloved flew away to heaven.  Life has changed forever.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining
Behind the clouds, the sun is shining.
Thy fate is the common fate of all.
Into each life some rain must fall;
Some days must be dark and dreary.

But I must add here--that without both the sun and the rain--there are no rainbows and there is no hope.  I am so grateful to know I will see my darling again someday. In the meantime, the Shepherd of my heart walks with me, He weeps with me and He loves me.

Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, dear  Friends.

I Miss You -Postcard Friendship Friday #245

Early Thursday morning, October 30th, I lost the love of my life.

I know lots of people are not comfortable with the loss of a loved one and the story of what happened.  However, my husband left in such a beautiful way, I wanted to share it with you.  If you are uncomfortable with reading this account--I truly, deeply understand.  ((HUGS))

I knew something was wrong and I felt uneasy, so the cat and I sat beside him, as he slept in his big chair.  Suddenly he clutched the top part of his chest and said he was in awful pain.  A moment later, his eyes grew large, and he gasped as though he saw something indescribably wonderful.

I called 911, and I performed CPR until the ambulance came.  Our dear children were able to arrive before he left for the hospital, and we were together there when he flew away to heaven.

As we were hugging and kissing him goodbye--telling him what a wonderful husband and father he was,  what a great job he had done and how much we loved him--to be at peace and to not worry about us--the walls of the emergency room were lined with those who had fought so hard to save him.  We sang his favorite songs and held him as long as we could.  Those wonderful people surrounded us....their heads bowed, hands folded, many with tears running down their faces.  After a time, they trickled from the room--but stayed close by in the hallway.

As we were getting ready to leave, the head RN came in and said, "We see a lot of these, but it is rare to find a family with such love for one another, who handled this moment with such great beauty, love and dignity."  Then he gave us his card and said, "If you need anything let us know."

I have been married to this wonderful man for 31 wonderful years.   Alan is the love of my life.  I want to share something beautiful that happened to me early Saturday morning. As I lay trying to sleep, a small sweet breeze slid across my face...and then his dear lips pressed against mine.  My husband kissed me goodbye.

Alan was a servant of God and He loved people. He wanted everyone to know God loved them too, and so I am passing his message on to you--God loves you.  He longs to know you, God wants to share His son and the world He created for you--in a whole different way than you've ever known.

Dear precious friends--may God bless you with joy--even in the midst of great sorrow.

Goodbye My Love -Postcard Friendship Friday #244

My sweet Friends.  I am so sorry for not posting earlier.  Thursday morning my husband of 31 years flew home to be with the Savior he loves.  He died very suddenly early in the morning.

I hardly know what to write, except to ask for your prayers for me and my precious family as we learn to live our lives without dear Alan.  Blessings and love to each of you, dear ones.

Comfort in Sadness

Today our lifetime friend Dan lost his little grandson in a tragic accident--these dear ones have already born so much heartache in their lives.  I hardly know what to say, or what to do.  Please pray for our friends Dan and Judy, and the parents of this precious little boy, Daniel.

May God comfort them in their grief.

Thank you for your prayers, dear ones.

Granite Mountain Hot Shots Tribute

We were horrified and heart broken to hear that nineteen members of the Granite Mountain "Hot Shot" fire crew were caught in a fire which was blasting out of control in a forest near Phoenix, Arizona.  Caught by the approaching flames this group of elite firefighters employed their emergency fire shelters.  The blaze took the lives of all nineteen of these brave souls.

This loss hits close to home.  One of these men was an alumnus of my own high school in West Linn, Ore.  John Percin, Jr., a 24-year-old firefighter was among those who lost their lives.  It is a small world and my heart and prayers go out to his family.

Prescott Fire Chief Dan Fraijo said the nineteen firefighters were a part of the city's own fire department.  "We grieve for the families. We grieve for the department. We grieve for the city," he said at a news conference Sunday evening. "We're devastated. We just lost 19 of the finest people you'll ever meet."

Our tears--our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends of these brave firefighters.  God bless you dear ones.
