Synopsis
Minister Dulin summons Premiere Zalilak to a holographic meeting, much to the latter's irritation, to inquire about the status of his son, Darak. Zalilak reluctantly admits that he still lives. Zalilak detects relief in Dulin and reminds the Minister of what is at stake, to which Dulin responds by deducing that Darak and Solila escaped. Zalilak abruptly ends the call, leaving Dulin smiling.
Meanwhile, in the wastelands, Springer and Proximus continue their duel as Darak examines the key he found on the unconscious Solila’s person. Handroid is unable to identify it, only reporting that it is "very, very old." Solila springs to life and throttles Darak, telling him not to touch the key before collapsing again. Using his transformation ability and his built-in arsenal, Springer is able to keep Proximus on the ropes, but ultimately defeats him by stabbing him into the ground with his sword; however, when Darak once again asks Springer to help Solila, Proximus is able to escape, leaving behind an arm and a leg.
Springer takes Darak and Solila to a hidden underground lab that he’s been constructing for the last century, using the remains of his crashed ship and whatever parts he could scavenge on the surface of the Sacred Ring. When Darak removes his helmet, Springer is shocked to see the mind eye crystal on his forehead, which he recognizes as actually being an Energon port! Realizing Solila has the same, Springer pours some of his Energon supply into the crystal. As she begins to awaken, Solila hears the voice of Zerta telling her that it is her destiny, as the strongest of her children, to undergo a quest that will awaken all the inhabitants of the Sacred Ring: Solila must venture into the depths of the Sacred Ring and find Zerta herself.
Solila awakens to find herself glowing pink as her body absorbs the Energon, to the astonishment of Darak and Springer. Springer explains that Energon is the fuel and food of the Cybertronians, and that while the Agorrians and Zertonians are indeed organic, their physiology has elements of a synthetic nature that appears to be Cybertronian in origin. He also reveals that the Sacred Ring itself is actually an engine that generates its own Energon, though he doesn’t know why. Darak recognizes the name "Cybertronian" from their encounter with Jetfire. Springer tells them how the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons and their ever-dwindling resources led him to seek out the legend of Zerta Trion, who rebelled against her fellow Cybertronians and set out to "forge a new path."
Solila asks Springer to tell her everything Zerta Trion, but their conversation is interrupted by the sound of an explosion on the surface: an entire squadron of Zertonian soldiers and weaponry has just arrived.

Notes
Continuity notes
- As revealed back in issue #4, Zalilak and Dulin have a secret channel through which they communicate.
- Zerta previously communicated with Darak the same way she did with Solila when he had his vision back in issue #2.
- The minister of arms mentions the resource issues that have plagued Zertonia.
- And so Energon finally makes a proper appearance in Void Rivals! However, eagle-eyed readers will recall the yellow fuel that re-empowered Jetfire in issue #1. Was that also some form of Energon, or simply another fuel source with some key similarites? We have seen in Cobra Commander #4 that different forms of Energon with different colors are indeed possible…
Transformers references
- At one point during his fight with Proximus, Springer brings out the wrist blaster he used during the start of the battle of Autobot City in The Transformers: The Movie.
- Springer alludes to the Cybertronians gaining independence from their creators, confirming that something akin to the Autobot Rebellion against the Quintessons from the Generation 1 cartoon also happened in the Energon Universe.
- Springer says that only two Cybertronians have ever earned the title of "Trion," clearly referencing Alpha Trion as the other.
