Yeah you know me.

O.P. (オーピー Ōpī) is Optimus Prime's Arms Micron. He likes to think he has a lot of good ideas, but, well... let's just say he's got a lot of work ahead of him before he can be true leader material.

Prime cartoon

O.P. only appears as an actual character in the Arms Micron Theater segments of the Japanese broadcast of Prime. Technically, he appears in the main cartoon any time Optimus uses his cannon(s), but we're not going to bother with that and just focus on his individual exploits.
Voice actor: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Japanese)

O.P., B.B., and R.A. tried to transform. Perfect Transformation! Enter the Transformers B.B. and R.A. succeeded at transforming into robot mode, but O.P. still struggled. Dark Transformation! Dark Energon While he finally succeeded, he felt down because the viewers didn't get to see him do it. In order to prove his worth, he instead combined with B.B. and R.A. to form the Star Saber. Rescue Transformation! Fowler in Crisis Optimus Prime's actions during his run-in with MECH were hard on O.P., who was still shaking some time afterwards. He wondered if there wasn't anything else the Microns could do to help the Autobots, but dismissed B.B.'s suggestion that they drive their partners in vehicle mode. Reckless Transformation! Protect the Dingus! Upon reaching the 10-episode milestone, the Arms Microns had a party to celebrate. O.P. wanted to hold a speech to thank everyone involved, and even tried to extend the show's air time to an hour when B.H. told him there wasn't enough time. It didn't work. All-Out Assault Transformation! The Pair of Assassins

While relaxing with an energon drink after a recent battle, O.P. was joined by Zamu and Gura, who'd fought on the opposite side and wanted advice for future battles. He started off giving normal enough combat tips, but his methods grew increasingly ruthless as his body began turning black as if tainted by Dark Energon. Arc wondered aloud just what was in his drink. Acceleration Transformation! Speed Match! To the confusion of B.B., Arc somehow summoned two O.P.s to combine with into "Fire Galaxy Super God Star Arc". Phantom Transformation! Skyquake Returns When the Dark Matter Calibur trio of Decepticon Arms Microns were vandalizing the studio, O.P., B.B. and R.A. tried to stop them in the form of the Star Saber only to be quickly dispatched. Adhesive Transformation!? Magnetic Tag Match The three went over their abilities in search of a way to defeat the Dark Matter Calibur, but came up with nothing, so O.P. considered just fleeing to Hawaii instead. Exploration Transformation! Escape from the Underground As such, he donned the stereotypical Hawaiian lei and palm leaf skirt for the 20th episode celebration party, during which he was again interrupted by B.H. before he could give thanks. Duel Transformation! Quell Cliffjumper's Regrets

O.P. and the rest eventually succeeded in defeating the Dark Matter Calibur by having Pral, Jaze and Sise to do it. Friendship Transformation! My Bulkhead The trio decided to cook mapo energon on their own cooking show, Cooking Arms, but O.P.'s gun mode was unable to break apart the energon cube they needed. Their attempt to cut it apart with the Star Saber ended up wrecking the whole room, so O.P. just left to buy some premade food instead. Forbidden Transformation!? Ratchet's Strongest Legend? He and R.A. greeted the others when they returned from hanging out with their Autobot partners and their human friends. One-Shot Transformation! Optimus Prime VS Megatron When the Microns discovered a mysterious box with O.P.'s face on it, he insisted that they do not open it, even donning an onmyōdō outfit and claiming it would bring them misfortune. Arc was too curious to care, however, and forced him to relent with threats of violence. Giant God Transformation! The Advance of Gaia Unicron After it turned out to contain the Matrix, O.P. witnessed R.A. turn into a Shining form and combine with it into the Matrix Saber. Rivals Transformation! Birth of the Strongest Combination

When Optimus Prime lost his memory and returned to being Orion Pax, O.P. similarly forgot who he was. R.A. and B.B. tried jolting him back to normal by combining into the Super Star Saber, but it didn't work. Forgotten Transformation! Optimus Has Become a Decepticon Upon recovering, O.P. tried using a wind-up replica of himself to trick his friends into thinking he was still amnesiac as part of a candid camera segment, but they caught onto his prank and tricked him right back by pretending to be fine with his amnesia. Activated Transformation! The Key to Vector Sigma While trapped in Bumblebee's arm, B.B. called up O.P. and R.2 and asked them to turn into a sword and cut him out, though they naturally refused. Unable to Transform!? SOS Bumblebee Once B.B. escaped, the Arms Microns celebrated with a weapon-linking event, but O.P. was left saddened when B.B. left just as it was his turn to play. Brave Transformation! The Surgeon's Decision Taking the role of teacher in an Arms Micron classroom, O.P. announced to his class that Zamu was leaving them. Turbulent Transformation! Insect Battle

Overpowered.

O.P. and B.B. asked Shining R.A. for advice on becoming as strong as him and were told to think pure thoughts. On doing so, they unlocked "Pure Energon" forms that allowed them to form the Pure Energon Super Star Saber. Thunder God Transformation! Rebellion of the Battleship Nemesis O.P. later led a group of Microns to the Arms Micron-style Weapon Link Dojo to ask its master for the secret behind weapon-linking. Upon being told that it was as simple as just attaching to one another, the group tried it and formed the Samurai Sword Mode. Recovery Transformation! Battle in the Metropolis Underground As the year drew to a close, O.P. discussed new ways of beating the Decepticons with B.B. and Wuji, and the three came up with the idea of an Optimus Prime-shaped mobile base. Freezing Transformation! Obtain the Invincible Body! He tried to get along with Gora II long enough to deliver a new year's greeting, but it immediately fell through when he made fun of Gora's crush on Arc and Gora insulted his poor leadership skills. Turning red with anger, O.P. formed the Advanced Star Saber and battled Gora's Gravity Planet Bowgun, both yelling that they would never get along. Sonic Transformation! Ratchet's Recipe

Still in his O.P. R form, O.P. visited the dojo for advice on how to defeat Gora II and was told to wait for a sign. Sure enough, Arc appeared and started complaining about TV airtimes overlapping, which inspired O.P. to create the "overlapping" Matrix Double Saber weapon. Toxic Flame Transformation! Hardshell, King of the Insects On a snowy day, O.P. and his friends had a snowball fight, using their weapon modes to fire snow. Revenge Transformation! The Brave Chase He was part of the Stragy Gun combination invented by S.S.. Manmade Transformation! The Warrior of Destruction is Back When the Dark Matter Calibur trio reappeared as the Dark Star Saber, O.P. sicced the Matrix Saber on them. Flash Transformation! Unleashed! The Legendary Sword During an Arms Micron Folktale segment, O.P. appeared on an illustration dressed up as an old woman. Combustible Transformation! Struggle over the Omega Key

Together with Arc, O.P. announced the results of an Arms Micron popularity poll in which he himself came in fifth place. After announcing that the winner was Ida, he let slip that she was his favorite too, causing a jealous Arc to think he'd rigged the whole thing. Sky Dance Transformation! The Suicidal Skydive For their final episode, all the Arms Microns got together to say goodbye to their viewers. O.P. struck upon the idea of having the show end with all of them combining... but in one final indignity, it ended moments before they had the chance. Ultimate Transformation! Fight! Transformers

Shockwave? I don't know him.
  • Optimus Prime (Voyager, 2012)
  • Set ID number: AM-01
  • Micron ID number: M-01
  • Release date: March 31, 2012
  • Energon crystal: AP Pure
Released in the first wave of the main TakaraTomy Prime toyline, O.P. transforms from a humanoid robot into a weapon combining Optimus's cannon and blade weapons (which were omitted from the Japanese release). He has numerous 5mm posts and holes that allow him to combine with other Arms Microns to form any number of "Combo Weapons" and "Super Combo Weapons", though he is specifically called out as forming the lower-blade/guard portion of the Star Saber with B.B. and R.A.
He was only available packed in with AM-01 Optimus Prime, coming out of the package as a bunch of unpainted parts on runners, like a model kit. His extra deco is provided by customer-applied foil stickers on a sheet he shares with Optimus.

At this point, it should be noted that almost every release of O.P. that follows also came as an unassembled kit on a sprue. It's quicker and easier to only note the rare instances where one comes pre-assembled.

Now Energon Flavored.
  • Shining O.P. (Arms Micron, 2012)
  • Release date: June 30, 2012
  • Energon crystal: AP Pure
A clear-blue version of O.P. was given away to contestants in the "Arms Up Challenge" at the Next Generation World Hobby Fair Summer '12. The first challenge, limited to junior high students and younger, was simply a speed-trial assembly of Shining B.B.. The second "Expert Department" challenge was a customization contest, where applicants of all ages could bring in their customized Transformers Prime toys. The larger sticker sheet normally associated with O.P. was omitted, with only a faction sticker for the toy's energon crystal provided.
Shining O.P. was also one of three possible preorder bonus gifts for Cloud Roadbuster.

O.P. Will Surely Deliver.
  • Battle Shield Optimus (Multi-pack, 2012)
  • Release date: August 12, 202
  • Energon crystal: AP Pure
A gray version of O.P., dubbed O.P. A, was made available in the Japanese Toys"R"Us exclusive Battle Shield Optimus multi-pack. The set also included a redeco of AM-01 Optimus Prime, gold versions of the three Cosmotector Microns (Pral G, Sise G, and Jaze G), the sword from the Hasbro release of Optimus Prime.
If the set was purchased during the summer 2012 promotional period, buyers also got a series of carboard cut-outs that make a trailer unit for Optimus's truck mode that can serve as a Micron mounting base and carry a single Deluxe Class car.
We don't know what the "A" in the name stands for, but a likely candidate is "achromatic", another term for "grey". In case you're wondering, both "G" and "GR" as letter codes had already been taken by Baro G(old) and C.L. GR(een).

  • Golden Optimus Prime (Voyager, 2012)
  • Energon crystal: AP Pure (probably)
A gold version of O.P. was included with Golden Optimus Prime, limited to 20 pieces. The set was first prize prize in the Japanese "Arms Up Campaign", and mailed out at some point in November.

Everything's so clear! I-I can see... I CAN FIGHT!
  • Optimus Prime + Gaia Unicron (Multi-pack, 2013)
  • Energon crystal: AP Pure
This Asian-market-exclusive redeco of "O.P" comes pre-assembled, lacks stickers, and features paint operations.
He and a similarly-paint-having Optimus Prime come in a multi-pack with Gaia Unicron and Bogu.

Notes

  • In Arms Micron Theater, O.P. often announces "I have a good idea!" (私にいい考えがある! Watashi ni ii kangae ga aru.) before attempting to solve a problem. This line is something of a catchphrase of Generation 1 Optimus Prime in the Japanese dub of the original cartoon.
