Megatron sent the Insecticons to devour the Nova Power Core in order to become strong enough to siege a compound at Iron Mountain. The energy from the core made the Insecticons far stronger than normal and caused them to grow in size. However, they did not know that the Nova Power Core was incompatible with the Insecticons' trilithium stomachs. The Insecticon Syndrome

The Nova Core was built by the humans. The Autobots sent First Aid in response to make sure that all the humans at the Nova Core facility were safe. Unfortunately, Reflector accidentally set off the volatile device and both Reflector and First Aid had to evacuate. Afterwards, Megatron told Reflector to find the Nova Core and bring it to him. First Aid got his medibots there first, and the four bots duked it out, during which Spectro accidentally dropped the Nova Core into....water.

The Reflector trio then reluctantly helped First Aid contain the amount of energy released from the overloading core. Project Supernova events
