Alien Resurrection

To do: Figure out what the unknown cheats do. |
Despite its very rocky development, Alien Resurrection is one of the few instances where a video game is superior to the source material it's based on.
While not the first game to feature the now standard dual-analogue aiming controls, being beaten by titles such as Goldeneye 007 and the original Medal of Honor, it is one of the first to make it the default control scheme.

Super Special Code
To do: Test the code in the PAL version of the game. |
The "Super Special Code", as termed by programmer Martin Piper, can potentially be used in conjunction with the infamous ‘disc swap trick’ as a foresight in the PlayStation’s own security, to boot CD-R backups and imported titles without the use of any hardware or software modifications. With the game having almost been a multi-disk release, the idea of being able to seamlessly swap out to the next disc for the sake of immersion without having to reboot the console by utilizing programming API calls was pitched to Sony but was vehemently denied for the fear in piracy through exploit of such a feature. Having neglected to disclose the functionality of this particular code to Sony at the time of publication, it would be left behind in the game’s code to find its way onto retail copies now only available second-hand. While the cheat was previously known to exist, its function wasn't known until over 23 years after the game's release on December 19th, 2023. Currently, it is known to exist in the North American version of the game and functions on not just the original PlayStation but also the PlayStation 2 (through backwards compatibility).
It should be noted that the Cheat Menu and level select codes listed above must have already been inputted before being able to mash in the button sequence and perform a disc-swap “test”.
- In the Options menu, input the combination Left, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Left, Square, Triangle, Square, Triangle, L1. A sound will play if the code is correctly input.
- Return to the Cheat Menu and select Level 6 (Military Systems Complex), Section 1.
- While holding L1, press X to enter the level. L1 must be held for the remainder of the code input. The game will appear to freeze on a black screen, and the disc will stop spinning.
- Without unblocking the tray sensor, swap the Alien Resurrection game disc for the desired backup or import game to load.
- Hold Square and Triangle, and release all three buttons simultaneously. The backup game should now boot.
Unused Difficulty Mode
A normally inaccessible difficulty mode can be selected with the below code.
USA code: Re-enable Unused Deadly Difficulty Mode 30096C91 0003
Unused Levels
This page or section needs more images. There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this. |
Listed among the levels are Kiddies Playground and Test Level. The former is a work-in-progress version of the "Betty" stage, while the latter never loads and crashes the game after a couple of minutes.
