Star Wars: X-Wing is a combat space flight simulation set in the Star Wars universe, developed by Totally Games and published by LucasArts and U.S. Gold for DOS and MacOS in 1993, and later Windows and Linux. It was the first Star Wars computer game released in the 1990s and the start of the huge range of LucasArts releases that followed.

The game was praised for its realistic 3D combat, with much more emphasis on situational awareness and controlling your ship's functions than its main rival at the time, the Wing Commander game series.

Story[edit | edit source]

The game takes place before and during Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. The player is a Rebel rookie, piloting an X-wing, Y-wing or A-wing starfighter in the Pilot Proving Ground, Historical Combat, and Tours I-III in operations against the Empire.
