Embellish-It FC77 - Levi's

Did you know that February 26th is Levi Strauss' birthday, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levi_Strauss. Our challenge this week at Embellish-It Scrapbooking this week is to create a birthday card or any occasion card for someone inspired by ads of the jeans, using pictures with the jeans or a part of jeans/tag/pocket/buttons.

So, my card is more of a general card than a birthday or occasion card, though will be given on the occasion of our church retreat this weekend.

Stamps: Spring Blossoms (Sarah Kay)
Paper: Basic Grey, Not Quite Navy
Ink: Memento, Copics
Accessories: Cut up jeans, Patchwork Thickers, Lime Rickey Brad (Basic Grey), Stickles, Martha Stewart Border Punch, lace

I wanted to piece the jeans into my image. I used cut up jeans that used to belong to my daughter and were damaged to the point that they could not be given to the thrift store. I had one dark pair and one very light pair. So I mixed them into the image. I love the dramatic contrast.

I used Mod Podge to stiffen the jeans, and then sent them through the Big Shot with a frame die and flower dies to create jeans flowers. The brad is from Basic Grey.

I used the Thickers and lace on the inside of my card to help hold up the easel. I love the contrast against the navy blue.

Reminder - Embellish-It Scrapbooking has a great deal on ribbon right now.
1. Each customer who purchases $5.00 in American Crafts products will receive a spool of ribbon.
2. For every purchase of Thickers, you will receive a free spool of American Crafts ribbon. So, if you buy 3 packs of Thickers, you get 3 spools of ribbon for free.

PLUS - Free shipping on orders of $50.00 or more!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

Paper: Cupid (Pink Paisley), DCWV Textured Cardstock
Ink: Ink Jet, Copics

I colored my image with Copics. I used Crystal Effects to add a water effect to the tears.

Embellish-It FC75 - Bling It Up and Friday Sketchers #88

The Friday Challenge this week for Embellish-It Scrapbooking FC75 is Bling It Up! The challenge is to use at least 2 types of bling, anything that shines or glistens. For this challenge, I really liked the Friday Sketchers sketch. Here it is...

...and here is my Bling It Up! card...

Stamps: Rose's Garden (Sarah Kay), Graceful Words (SU!)
Paper: Fancy Pants Simplicity, DCWV Textured Cardstock, Pink Paisley Cupid
Ink: Staz-On, Prismacolor pencils
Embellishments: Oh, where do I begin...Rhinestones, rhinestone brad, Stickles, Copics Spica Pen, Prima's Flowers, Martha Stewart Punch, Sizzix Tag Die

I colored my image with Prismacolor pencils and mineral spirits. I actually colored my image last summer, and this is the first chance I have had to use it.

I punched white cardstock on both sides with a Martha Stewart Punch and embellished it with blue and white rhinestones. I used pink rhinestones in the corners. I used stickles to decorate the flowers and the border for my picture.

For just a little more bling, I traced over the word "grace" with a Copics Spica Pen. It is hard to see in the picture, but really glimmers in the sunlight.

Embellish-It FC74 - Pierce It People

The challenge for Embellish-It Scrapbooking (FC74) is called Pierce It People. We want to see cards with piercing. So, I created this card, with some piercing...

Stamps: Chloe's First Kiss (Sarah Kay), Polka Dot Punches (SU!)
Paper: Love Potion and Postcards (Pink Paisley), DCWV Stack 6 (blue paper)
Ink: Staz-On, Distress Ink
Embellishments: Heart Punch, Piercing Tool, Hodgepodge Hardware, button, Chocolate Chip ribbon

This is the card closed.

I water colored the image with distress inks and sponged the background to add dimension and color.

I saw a card made similar to this on Line's blog. She has a link to a YouTube video. I think it was in Italian, but if you watch, you get the gist of it. This is modified from the original, but is really fun to play with. When you pull the hardware with the little piece of ribbon, it lifts up the image, similar to an easel card. I had a hard time getting my fold for the easel correct, so I ended up with two folds. I do like the way it turned out regardless of my learning curve.

This heart is from Polka Dot Punches by Stampin' Up! The heart has little dots in the center. I used those as a guide and pierced the inside of the heart. The image corresponds with a heart punch. I added some Stickles to give it some bling and dimension.

Just a reminder that Embellish-It Scrapbooking is having a great deal on American Crafts ribbon. For details, you can go to my Wednesday post.

I hope you will consider playing along with the Friday Challenge at Embellish-It Scrapbooking. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Have a great weekend.

Design Team Announcement - Embellish-It Online

I am so excited to announce that I have been chosen to be on the design team for Embellish-It Scrapbooking. After a month as guest designer, I applied for a 6-month position, and I was chosen. It is such an honor. The designers are fantastic and it is privilege to work with them.

For my first card, I made this birthday card for my niece...

Stamps: Lucy and Kitty (Sarah Kay)
Paper: Hearts Bloom and Bow and Arrow (Pink Paisley)
Ink: Staz-On, Distress Ink (watercoloring)
Embellishments: Thickers, American Crafts Ribbon, Prima Flowers, Joann acrylic stickers, rhinestones, Martha Stewart Branch Punch.

I watered colored my image with Distress Inks.

Aren't these Thickers great. I think they look fantastic on a project. They are thicker than a sticker, and are covered with fabric. So great!

I used American Crafts ribbon to complete my "J."

Speaking of ribbon, Embellish-It Scrapbooking has a great deal on ribbon right now.
1. Each customer who purchases $5.00 in American Crafts products will receive a spool of ribbon.
2. For every purchase of Thickers, you will receive a free spool of American Crafts ribbon. So, if you buy 3 packs of Thickers, you get 3 spools of ribbon for free.

WOW! We all like to get stuff for free, right? Go see what Embellish-It Scrapbooking has for you.

Check back tomorrow. I will have another card to share.

Embellish-It Design Team

Today, I end my term as December Guest Designer for Embellish-It. For my final project, I wanted to do something a little different. During my blog travels, I had seen a card where the image was grayed out, indicating that the character was shadowed. I wanted to find a way to portray this shadowing. So I made this card.

The image is Spring Blossoms by Sarah Kay. I used Copics to color her. I used my brayer and Stampin' Up! pads to brayer the background. I used Black Magic Paper (sorry, but I hate the name of that paper) for the base, and sanded off the black to reveal some of the blue core. The next layer is Blue Skies from American Crafts.

I used the Zindorf masking method to create a sunset. With the imaging facing the sunset, I figured her back would all be in shadow. So, I used Copics to color my image, and then went over the entire image with C3, C5 and C7 (depending on the level of shadow I wanted).

To finish off the card, I added a little Flower Soft, some rhinestones, and a flower with a little Flair from American Crafts. The speckled flower was originally white, but I wanted to add some color. I layed the flower down on my Brocade Blue Dye ink pad and used a paper towel to press the flower into the pad, adding some blue. I repeated this with Pumpkin Pie. I stamped "Thank You" on the Flair with Staz-On.

I have so enjoyed my time working with Embellish-It. The ladies are wonderful, and Barb (the store owner) has been just great. I have had the opportunity to order some stamps from her. She has great sales and excellent customer service. She is currently offering Free Shipping on domestic orders of $50.00 or more! Enter code 4SP9HD in the coupon box at checkout! (One discount per order). I hope you will check out her store, and tell her I said hi!

Have a safe and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Friday Sketchers #83 - Embellish-It

Even though it is so close to Christmas, I had to make just one more Christmas card. I decided to use the sketch from Friday Sketchers #83. Here is the sketch....

...and here is my card...

Stamps: Sharing in Your Sorrow (Stampin' Up!), Partridge and pear (Martha Stewart)
Paper: Blue Skies by American Crafts (available at Embellish-It)
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss, Pumpkin Pie (Stampin' Up!)
Accessories: Dew Drops, Joys of the Season (Cricut)

Here is the story behind this card: One of my favorite groups is Straight No Chaser, especially their version of 12 Days of Christmas. (If you have not seen it, view it here. It is worth the watch). My daughter and I have been listening to that nonstop this year. So, when I got my Blue Skies paper and saw the wonderful pear papers, I just had to make a partridge in a pear tree card. It took some thought, but I finally came up with combining my Martha Stewart Christmas Stamps and made a partridge in a pear tree. I decided to give it to my DH since the song says "my true love gave to me..." and he is my true love.

Embellish-It still has some awesome sales going on. She is also offering Free Shipping on domestic orders of $50.00 or more! Enter code 4SP9HD in the coupon box at checkout! (One discount per order). Go check it out before time runs out.

I want to with you all a Wonderful Christmas. I hope it is filled with joyous times with friends and family. See you next week.

Friday Sketchers #82 - Embellish-It

I ordered some supplies from Embellish-It which I received this week. So, I decided to put them to use on the Friday Sketchers Challenge #82. Here is the sketch for this week...

...and here is my card...

I received this cute little birdie from Embellish-It along with the paper, I'm Like a Bird and One Fine Day from American Crafts, all available in the store. Don't they look great together. I wanted my bird to stand on a branch, so I used my Cricut Joys of the Season to cut a little branch and used some Prima flowers to embellish the branch. The flowers in the upper right corner are Primas and finished off with Dew Drops and Martha Stewart Branch punches. I used an old Stampin' Up! stamp for the sentiment "It's Your Day."

I wanted to add a little wing to the bird, so I stamped on some green paper and mounted with dimensionals. You can sort of see the shadow in the picture above.

Go check out Embellish-It. She has a ton of SALE items and is offering Free Shipping on domestic orders of $50.00 or more! Enter code 4SP9HD in the coupon box at checkout! (One discount per order).

Have a great day!

Winter Apples

I am so honored to have been selected to be a guest designer for Embellish-It Scrapbooking (see sidebar for link) for the month of December. So, I will be posting each Thursday using stamps and supplies that can be found at this terrific online store.

For my first card, I am using Time for Apple Pie by Sarah Kay. The background paper is Euphoria by Basic Grey. Both the stamp and the paper can be found at Embellish-It Scrapbooking. I used my Fiskars border punch for the snowflake borders.
I colored my imaging using Copics. I added a little C1 gray to the green to soften it a bit. I wanted to give a real snowy feel to the card, so I added flock as a base under her feet. I then added some faux snow that I found in a Christmas display last year. The snow is usually used to decorate a home, but I love the feel of falling snow it adds to the picture.
I layered some paper flowers for the embellishment. I used Martha Stewart leaf and branch punches for the flower base. I topped it off with a Hodge Podge brad from Stampin' Up! and finished it off with some charms for a little extra zing. It is hard to see in the picture, but I included Stickles to the flower to add a little more pizazz.

Go visit Embellish-It Scrapbooking to see their great selection of stamping/scrapbooking supplies. Also check out the sale items as they are offering some great deals right now. Check quick as you don't want to miss this sale. Have a fantastic day!

Blogger's Challenge 102 - Summertime/Embellish-online.com Sumthin' Bout Summertime!

Here is my card for the Blogger's Challenge #102 - Summertime. This is also the card I made with Embellish-online.com's blog hop that went from Monday through Wednesday, called Sumthin' Bout Summertime.

Stamps: Sarah Kay "Time for Apple Pie", Tart and Tangy (SU!), Best Yet (SU!)
Ink: Memento, Copics, Old Olive, Rose Red, Copics Spica pens
Paper: Rose Red, Old Olive, Summer Picnic DSP (Stampin' Up!), Sweet (DCWV)
Embellishments: Prima’s, Martha Stewart Branch Punch, Making Memories Sherbet large flower brad, rub-on (Stampin' Up!)

After stamping the apple in Rose Red and Garden Green (for the stem), I colored over the images with Spica Glitter pens. It is usually pretty hard to catch the shine in a picture, but I thought the picture above captured it pretty well.

I used a rub-on on the brad to add a little bit more to the flower.

These are the Copics I used to color Sarah Kay. I should note that I did not have a good blend for R29 for the bonnet and dress, so I used my C1 and C3 grays to add some depth.

I have been busy, busy making projects, so check back soon for more projects.

Have a good weekend.
