The event was announced on 18 December 2015, with results given on 27 December 2015. It was a rematch of the previous Red Kitsune Udon vs. Green Tanuki Soba event, which was held earlier in the same year.
Details
The three stages selected were Arowana Mall, Flounder Heights, and Mahi-Mahi Resort.

Trivia
- The theme of this Splatfest reflects the large kitsune and tanuki statues found in Inkopolis Plaza.
- The change in battle multiplier from x2 to x6 in version 2.2.0 changed the outcome of the second Red Kitsune Udon vs. Green Tanuki Soba Splatfest. Had the original x2 battle multiplier been used, it would have ended in a tie.
- This was the only Japanese Splatfest to feature Arowana Mall.
- This was the only Splatfest theme in Splatoon to be repeated within the same region, as well as the first repeated Splatfest theme in the series.
