Taxonbar

Discussion

The community has had a number of discussions with respect to adding {{Taxonbar}} to the bottom of taxon pages, for example [1]. The template has undergone a some iterations and as an example the current version can be found on this page Centaurea.

This has resulted in the request to discuss and then vote whether or not the current ban be rescinded, hence this RFC with the question. "Do you agree or disagree that the current ban on {{Taxonbar}} be rescinded and therefor the template be permitted on taxon pages?"

This RFC and poll lasts from 13 May 2022 to 27 May 2022. Andyboorman (talk) 08:55, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do we want to display the Wikispecies taxonbar on pages of species that are grouped into different genera following the opinion of different researchers and databases? (Example: Halimione portulacoides on English Wikipedia). Should we just copy the taxonavigation of Wikispecies or list both classifications? --Thiotrix (talk) 13:15, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That example seems to indicate that that WS has undertaken OR by taking one side of a taxonomic opinion over another. Halimione Aellen can be considered as a synonym of Ariplex after all with only some minor morphological differences being used to segregate the genera. Therefore both classifications should be used, as above. Andyboorman (talk) 16:14, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Thiotrix: by default {{Taxonbar}} retrieve the identifiers of the item linked to the Wikispecies page, e.g. for Halimione portulacoides it is Q888227. However you can force the display of the identifiers of your choice, e.g. {{Taxonbar|from=Q17244388}} would have retrived only the identifiers from Q17244388. And you can force the display of identifiers from several synonyms as I did in example in Halimione portulacoides, Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:13, 13 May 2022 (UTC) the relative documentation is availaible in ENWI en:Template:Taxonbar#Multiple_Wikidata_entries Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:18, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that sounds good. But The Plant List should be excluded from the Taxonbar, as it is rather outdated. And COL seems to be non-functional. --Thiotrix (talk) 15:41, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We can chose in Wikispecies the identifiers of our choice, e.g. to remove "The Plant List" we remove that line in the relevant module. Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:21, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
