Book Journey - 28th February

This week I am reading this

An Idiot Abroad - the book of the UK TV series.  It follows the journey made by Karl Pilkington to see the seven wonders of the world.  He was kind of dared by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to do the journey.  It is one of the funniest TV shows I saw last year and the book is very funny too.  If you 'get' british humour then I would highly recommend it.

Weekend Crafty Showcase

Thanks for visiting this weeks weekend showcase.

To show off your work please click the inlinkz button at the base of this post and follow the instructions.

I really want to see what you are showing off this week.

Here is my show off item. I dyed some sock yarn for a project I am starting on 1st March. I used two sachets of grape Kool Aid and one sachet of strawberry. The white bits are a bit of a mistake. When I wound the skeins to dye it I tied it up with some acrylic which must have been a little too tight but I am rolling with it.

Skywatch 24th Feb

This week we had a walk over a local bridge.

After quite a lot of rain the river had swelled quite a lot and the weir was wild

WIP Wednesday

As previously mentioned I'm no longer going to do the wednesday knitting thingy I started as Tami already has WIP Wednesday established and I don't think it is fair to start another.

I had to use my phone for the pics so they are absolutely rubbish.

My socks from last week are still in the same state of progress as last week so there isn't much point showing you those.

This is cynthia - a mystery shawl by SheKnits

and this is Fiore Rosa by Roxanne Yeun

There will be lots more works in progress over at WIP Wednesday

Toilet Humour

I saw this poster on a toilet wall in a pub last week and couldn't resist sharing it. Apologies for the glare.

The Book Journey

This monday I am reading Around The World In 80 Days by Jules Verne.

Not my usual sort of read at all but I am definitely broadening my horizons this year when books are linked to knitting. This knit a long is the reason for this book and I'm so glad I stumbled across it as the book is fantastic.

I've borrowed the picture from the knit a long because my book cover is very boring and looks like this.

See what everybody else is reading at The Book Journey

The Weekend Craft Showcase

Having had another think after the knitting meme thingy and a massive search on google where I couldn't find anything with a similar title etc I have decided to start The Weekend Craft Showcase.

Instead of just yarnwork like whats on your needles wednesday this one will be a showcase of all your crafty projects (either in progress or finished this week). It doesn't matter what craft you are showing off.  I want to see them, I want to be inspired, I want to learn new things and I'm sure lots of others do too.

Here is how it works:

I will start a new post each saturday which will include a link at the bottom from inlinkz.  All you need to do is click on the inlinkz button and it will ask for a web address where your photo can be seen.  Once you fill in the details it will then take you to a screen asking you to select the picture and once that is done voila we can see your lovely work.

Can't wait to see what you are all showcasing.

This week I received this package of fabric.

It is Sunkissed by Sweetwater. Sweetwater were my absolute favourite scrapbook paper brand before they switched to fabric. I have been wanting to take part in this quilt a long thingy and have been waiting patiently for the fabric. Now I'm waiting for a proper grid ruler to come from across the pond (stupid paypal and their echeque system have delayed dispatch).  Hopefully by next week I will have something to show you from it.

So what do you want to show off this weekend

Oopsie

I feel really bad now.  I started the whats on your needles wednesday because I did an internet search and couldn't find anything similar for knitting. Obviously I didn't search well enough as it turns out there is and it is called WIP Wednesday.  I don't think it is fair for me to continue with WOYNW since Tami has been running her meme for quite some time.

I enjoyed it while it lasted and am considering possibly a weekend needles meme but I will search extensively this time so I'm not treading on anybody elses toes with it. I feel so guilty for starting the first one.

I'll keep you up to date on what I plan to do. If anybody has any ideas feel free to pass them on.

Also the design team call is still open for another 10 days. Full details are here

WOYNW - Week 3

Whats on your needles Wednesday - Week 3.

I finished a Riff sock and have started the toe cup for the second one.

I have also finished the Mystique fingerless gloves. Not sure whether fingerless gloves are me but I'll give them a go while I am out and about.

Here is how it works - click the inlinkz button below and it will ask you for your link etc and then as if by magic your piccie should be visible.  Can't wait to see what you are knitting this week :)

Also there is WIP Wednesday to check out

Skywatch

Last Friday was a weird weather day.  We had the lot apart from snow.  The winds were something else. Definitely stronger than we have had for a long while.

I struggled to stay on my feet while we were walking but couldn't resist a quick phone pic.  I couldn't even hold my phone straight.

Earlier in the day we had some rain followed by sun and then both combined and you know what that creates - yep a rainbow.  I haven't seen one in a long time so couldn't resist a quick snap.

WOYNW

Whats On Your Needles Wednesday - Week 2

This week I had a project on and off the needles which became my first finished project of 2011.  It is the Molly Stark scarf. My youngest chose the yarn from stash and whilst I'm not too sure on such a variegated yarn with this pattern he likes it so I'm not complaining. He wasn't so keen on me taking his picture though as you can probably tell from his mouth.

and then there is this.  I'm not sure what it is going to be.  There is a group on ravelry called Mystery 220 where every month there is a mystery project using less than 220 yards of yarn.  It is a great way to use up some stash.

Monday Reading - Book Journey

I've just discovered the Book Journey thanks to Jo.

This monday I am reading one of the books from the Victorian Knitters Club over at Woolgirl.  The read for the first one is Sherlock Holmes - The Sign Of The Four.  The kits are based around the novel so I'm imagining greens and browns like his tweed suit or maybe rich jewels as the book is about treasure. It is due to make its way across the atlantic starting from today so I'm willing it to have a quick trip and fingers crossed it will be with me in a week or so.

I did actually cheat a little bit with the version I have which is from Amazon as above.  I started the sign of the four first but it is the second story in the book so I will have to backtrack once I have finished it and read A Study In Scarlet.

Meet Pusky

Pusky is the name my youngest gave to his new husky hat.  I'm not sure he can get away with wearing cutesy stuff much longer before it becomes seriously uncool but it was his choice so I'm not saying no. Let kids be kids for longer and all that and at 7 I think cute is still acceptable.

I used a new hipstamatic film on my phone called Dream Canvas Salvador.  I do like the canvas bit but I'm reserving judgement until I have actually printed an image with it yet.

Sad News

My post the other day about the missing teenager has had a tragic end.  His body was found today in the river. Very close to where he was last seen on cctv. It seems he slipped on the river bank.  A very tragic accident.  I didn't know him but my heart goes out to his family who must be going through agony.

Rest in peace young man.

Whats On Your Needles Wednesday - Week 1

Welcome to week one of whats on your needles wednesday.

At the bottom of the page is a linky thingy where you can show everybody in the blogosphere what you have on your needles this wednesday.

Here is what I currently have on my needles. With it being week one I am showing you everything.  Hopefully this might make me finish something.

Up first is the Riff socks from the deep fall issue of Knitty.

Next are mystique mystery fingerless gloves.  This is to the end of clue two.  Two more clues to follow.

A frilled city scarf

and lastly a cable scarf which is for the next scarf journey round robin.  This is my starter section which I am posting later in the month to the next person down the line who sends their starter to the next person after them and so on until they eventually return home as a decent length of scarf.  I'm really looking forward to this one as I love cables more than anything else in knitting.

So what is on your needles this week?
