He got his PhD from Seoul National University(1993). The research areas that he has focused are historical socioHe have served the Korean government as a standing commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Republic of Korea(TRCK) from December1, 2005 to December 10, 2009(A vice-minister class, nominated by the President Noh, Moo-hyun) . As a commissioner, he has directed the investigation of the Korean War massacres for the first time as a governmental body after the incidents.

Since 1999, he wrote articles on Korean War Massacres and has organized concerned intellectuals and victims’ families to settle the problem of massacres committed by South Korean authorities during the Korean War(1948-1953). He has written several academic articles and books including (All Korean) Social Movement in 1960s of Korea(1991). During the Japanese occupation and after the Korean War, all methods of punishment were used agai... more During the Japanese occupation and after the Korean War, all methods of punishment were used against political prisoners, or dissidents, who held socialist and communist views, including massacre, execution, imprisonment, isolation, indoctrination, education, torture, conversion, dismissal, preliminary inspection, surveillance, and sit-ins. In the past, Japan and modern-day South Korea used very coercive methods of conversion, while socialist countries such as China and North Korea used camps, isolation, constant indoctrination, and thought reform for pro-capitalist and anti-Party dissidents who criticized or rejected the socialist revolution. In China, in particular, the Great Leap Forward in the late 1950s and the Cultural Revolution in the decade after 1966 completely deprived countless intellectuals of their social life by branding them as dissidents and counterrevolutionaries, killing them or publicly ridiculing them in public, during the madness of the Cultural Revolution. Self-improvement (downward) through labor, violent ideological reform, and brainwashing of bourgeois and liberal figures has been a common feature of East Asian socialist countries since the Chinese Revolution of 1949, and was systematically carried out before that against Japanese prisoners of war captured after the August 15, 1945, defeat of Japan, and against American POWs captured during the Korean War.43 Under Xi Jinping, China's
