Xaver Schlager (born 28 September 1997) is an Austrian footballer who plays as Midfielder for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

After playing for the youth team of SC St. Valentin he came to the FC Red Bull Salzburg Academy in 2011, where he played in all teams. In 2015, he was transferred to FC Liefering, the farm team of FC Red Bull Salzburg. In 2016 he signed a contract with FC Red Bull Salzburg. On May 10th 2016 he played his first match in the Austrian Bundesliga versus SV Grödig. He also was captain of the FC Salzburg U19 team which won the 2016/17 UEFA Youth League. On the 26 June 2019, Schlager signed for VfL Wolfsburg.[1] For the 2022/23 season he joined league rivals RB Leipzig and received a four-year contract until 2026. [2]

National team

He played for the Austrian U16, U17, U19 and U21 national team. With Austria U19 he played the UEFA U19 European Championship 2015. In March 2018 he had his first appearance in the National team of Austria.[3]
