John Eric Ensign (born March 25, 1958) is an American veterinarian and former politician. He served as Senator of Nevada from 2001 to 2011. He resigned on May 3, 2011 due to an ethics violation of Senate rules. He was involved in a sex scandal because of a relationship with a Senate aide.
On April 21, 2011, he said he would resign from office on May 3,[2] stating that he "will not continue to subject my family, my constituents, or the Senate to any further rounds of investigation, depositions, drawn out proceedings, or especially public hearings."[3]
