Come together

There has been a project waiting in the wings at our house for several months now.
We have a little dinette set that has been around for a few years.
Even though a couple of the chairs are no longer with us, I was reluctant to part with the sweet little table and remaining chairs.

The wonderful world of blogging opened up the beauty of painted furniture.  After getting my feet wet with a few miscellaneous pieces, I picked out my next project: the dwindling dinette set.

All this could not have been accomplished without a lot of hard work by my husband.  Thanks, Bobby!

I mentioned there was more to come about these chairs in my last post.
They collected with a purpose.

Have a seat

There is something about chairs that appeal to me.
Big ones, little ones, and especially old ones.

My grandmother's rocker c.1940

My baby rocker c. 1979

Even if they aren't  mine.
A make-over for the library

A make-over for Kristin

They even frequently find their way into my art.

Here is a sample of  the many minis I've collected along the way:

And here are some life-size ones I've been collecting:

These were gathered for a special purpose:
More on these later

A really cool chair, even it she's tattered and torn
 is hard to resist.
You can be sure there is always a seat -or 10- available
 at my house!

What fun and interesting collections do you have?

Be our guest

Many moons ago, someone gave this old desk chair to the library.
It has been shuffled around from one random place to another,
never having a spot of its own.

Recently, we have been creating cozy little seating niches.
We found a perfect spot for this chair, but it seemed to disappear into
the oak shelves it sat against.

Since it's finish wasn't in that good a condition,
I decided to give it a white wash.

A little pillow makes it cozy.

From drab to fab

We enjoyed the weekend with Kristin and Matt at their home in Arkansas.
We had planned on some painting projects and the weather
cooperated beautifully!

We took a sweet little table that had seen a few college years tossed to and fro from this:

to this:

Drab:

to FAB!

Then there was the matter of these chairs, which were the color of dirty dijon:

But no more!

Ta-da!  A cozy eating nook:

Added bonus: they have gorgeous hydrangeas in their yard!

Sooner or Later....Before & After

No explanations.  No excuses.
Just a new post.

This is a desk my maternal grandfather built in 1936.
It has been various shades of blah in my memory.
And living hidden away in the utility room.

Until now!
Hello, pretty!
Welcome to the Family (Room)!

This is a shabby little bench my husband drug in from an estate sale.
There is good potential here.

Ta-Da!

And here is the handsome couple.

Aren't they a lovely pair?

New directions

Lately I've been spending more time working ON tables
than working AT my art table.

Since I love before and afters so much,
I took some shots to share with you.

Yes, I have ventured of into another realm of the blogosphere.....

.....and caught the furniture painting bug....

You don't want to be too still at my house for very long

or you might get painted!!

......to be continued......

Labor of Love

or: How I spent my Labor Day weekend

(Edited 11-18-09, for Blog Party)
Welcome to my blog
Roadkill Rescue fans!!
I'm so excited to join the party!

It all started Wednesday when I took a slightly different route to work. Something near the curb caught my eye. You may or may not find this hard to believe, but this little treasure was laying in two pieces in a trash heap.

I didn't even recognize what it was for sure, as I had only seen the top portion, so I asked my husband go check on it. He saw the second piece and knew immediately what we had stumbled upon. He inquired, learned it was destined for the dump and asked if he could have it before loading it up.

I spent the greater parts of Saturday, Sunday and Monday working on it.
A mere $60 and three days later, here is my new pride and joy:

circa 1930 Hoosier-style cabinet

It may be a Hoosier, Sellers, Wilson, or McDougall,
but now it's mine and I love it!!
