The use of bricks was encouraged by a great availability of clay, a long-standing tradition in clay manufacturing and the advantages of an easier import-export. The high quality standard in clay manufacturing is pointed out by the production of architectural elements suitable to bear loads, by their assembling with various building materials and by reproducing frameworks generally made with stone. The success of this production is due not to economical reasons or deficiency of proper stones: bricks are unalterable, easy and ready made, with a structure suitable for bearing heavy loads and resisting to external pressure. This brick manufacture was made by workshops whose stamps pointed out they were producing materials for public buildings.
