The skeletons consisted of mostly preterm and full-term fetuses and two older infants. These burials are believed to date to c.1768-1818. The excavation report suggests that the burials contain unbaptized infants which according to Christian doctrine cannot be buried in consecrated ground (Raynor et al. 2011). This assemblage (the Lower Horizon babies) is anomalous in that no other collection of fetuses and infants of this size, density, and context has been uncovered in an early-modern English context.
