50-something gay green geek who remembers the first time he sent an email from Australia to someone in the UK and got a reply within an hour.

Which was quite something in 1984 since UWA only connected to UniMelb at 1200 baud or maybe 2400 baud twice a day to exchange emails and usenet and UniMelb had 9600 baud or maybe trailblazers off peak dialup links to the US.
