With Gratitude Card - Watercolour Stamping

Hello Crafty Friends! Today I am on the Magenta Blog with this fall foliage card full of beautiful oranges, yellows and reds with a sprinkling of gold.

I used combinations of Distress inks (Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Carved Pumpkin, Barn Door and Crackling Campfire) as I loaded the stamp with ink, stamped it,  and reloaded with ink again & spritzed with water. Next, I used a thin watercolour brush with water and pulled the ink from the edges of the leaves and moved the colour around and into the background spaces. Once that area was dry, I stamped the image again before repositioning it into a new spot on the 4 x 6 " Bristol paper using my MISTI. Then, added ink splatters with the paint brush and gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz splatters with the nozzle straw. Once that was dry, I stamped the sentiment by mixing the Gratitude stamp with the "with" part of the With Sympathy stamp. Lastly, I wrapped the panel with twine, mounted it onto a 4.5 x 6.5" kraft card base, and added a few gold jewels.

I am loving this branch of Leaves stamp as it lends itself to multiple uses. Looking forward to creating more with it.

Smile Easel Card

Hello Crafty Friends! I am up on the Magenta Blog today with the second watercoloured card made from the Magenta Floral Background stamp panel.  If you missed my first card from this set, you can find it here. This time, I used the 2 3/4" x 5 1/2" remaining panel piece to make a fun and floral "Pick Me Up" easel card.

To recap how I made the panel... I started by stamping with VersaMark ink and clear heat embossing the image on 140 lb cold press watercolour paper. Next, I watercolour painted the panel with Grass Green, Hot Pink, and Turquoise Nuance powders. Once dry, after cutting a 1 1/2" strip from the panel (which is the part that I used on the first card), I used the remaining piece as the top part of the tent based easel card.

The card is 4 x 5 1/2" in size. Once you have the panel that you want to use created, set it aside as you prep the card base. Make a tent card for the size of the front panel that you wish to use. After you have made the first fold of your tent card, fold the top panel in on itself to the centre fold, halfing it or folding it in by one quarter. Then unfold it back to a standard tent card.

For mine, I ventured into my stash and used some items that I haven't in ages. I used a lace pattern border punch on the edge of the top panel and added crochet ribbon and jewels. Next, I added gold foil to the edge of the watercoloured panel piece and adhered it to the remaining 1 1/4" of the folded bottom part of the front of the card base. This leaves the top portion unglued which it allows it to raise up once the easel part is created.

I used a 1/2 double sided tape on the bottom part inside edge and transferred gold foil onto it. Opening up the card, I adhered a thin piece of stitched velvet ribbon and another lace bordered punch piece of watercolour paper painted with the Grass Green Nuance to create the easel part.

Between the gold leaf edge and the scalloped lace boarder, I stamped the sentiment (after doing a little stamp surgery) using a MISTI so as to ensure that the stretched out sentiment was straight. To finish the front, I cut and adhered a small piece of vellum to back the gold glitter wood veneer letters from a dollar store that I used for the smile sentiment. Lastly, I added some Stardust Jelly roll pen for shimmer to the centres of the flowers.

I created a coordinating envelope out of green cardstock and I made it a bit larger to accommodate the size of the veneer letters.

There you have it, one watercoloured panel, two cards. If you were inspired by either of these cards, be sure to share your creations either with me here or over on my Magenta post or on Instagram.

Inspired by Scraps

Hello Crafty Friends! When I was rummaging through my scraps to make the ‘find Joy’ ICAD, I came across this Tim Holtz large tissue butterfly and thought it was perfect for a 4” by 6” index card. Along with that I had a leftover ‘be kind’ stamped onto muslin for the last card that I found was too big and too bold for that one but thought it was just right sizing wise when paired with the big butterfly.

I started by stamping the Kaisercraft Flutter Moroccan design on the index card. Next, I adhered the tissue butterfly with multi-medium matte and then clear gessoed over top of it. Once that was dry, I carefully applied Clear Rock Candy Distress crackle paint around the butterfly image covering the entire index card. Once that had set up and done its crackle thing, I then painted over top of it using Finnabair’s Tiger Orange liquid acrylic adding water as I went allowing it to seep into the cracks. Next, I used the Finnabair metallic Mermaid Teal watered-down with water to paint the lighter parts of the butterfly and then splattered the whole card with some.

Once all was dry, I used a black Stabillo All pencil to outline the butterfly and add detail. Then, I used a brush and water to activate the All pencil. Using DecoFoil adhesive pen, I put some on my craft mat and then used a toothpick to apply it to the very thin design lines of the Moroccan pattern in some places. Then, I used the adhesive pen along the edge of the card and applied the gold foil there too. Next, I distressed the edges by running a scissor blade along them and added splatters of Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz. Lastly, I adhered the pre-stamped Simon Says Stamp Big Words ‘be KIND’ and called it done.

Supplies: Big Words stamp set (Simon Says Stamp), Flutter stamp (KaiserCraft), Tim Holtz Tissue Paper (Advantus), Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint, Multi Medium Matte, Jet Black and Black Soot Archival ink (Ranger), Finnabair Tiger Orange Liquid Acrylic and Mermaid Teal Metallique acrylic (Prima), clear gesso (Liquitex), Decofoil gold foil and adhesive pen (Thermoweb), black All pencil (Stabillo), Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz (Imagine Crafts), muslin (Misc.)

I have to laugh at myself because I went from delicate and shabby to bold and grungy. I really am an eclectic maker. I just like it all!

Once again I am joining in ICAD2020, Kathy Raccosin's the Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge, and SSS Flickr Challenge #154 Crazy for Coloring.

Texture Filled Tag

If you are like me, you have a stash of started projects. You know those ones that you start, then put aside as more pressing projects come along. Today's tag fits that bill. I had started it for one of Tim Holtz Tag challenges eons ago but hand not finished it. It was bagged up and put in a drawer with the background completed but it still needed all the embellishment details and words added. This week's Simon Says Stamp Monday - Add Some Texture challenge was the perfect time to dig it out and finish it off as it is chock full of various textures.

The burlap base was stenciled with texture paste and coloured with Distress Ink. Next, I adhered the torn piece of patterned paper with gel medium. While that was setting up, I stamped the compass rose onto tissue paper. Then, I collaged it onto the background and inked the edges with distress ink.

Next, I took the scanned and printed photo of a family member and added colour to it to add interest, corner punched the corners and inked the edges. It didn't quite pop enough off the background so backed it with white cardstock. The crinkle ribbon was coloured with Antique Linen spray stain and adhered to the tag prior to adding the diecut, distressed and rolled cardstock flowers and leaves. Then, I adhered a piece of pattern paper to the back of a plastic fragment piece ad fashioned a paperclip into the whole and onto the metal Treasure pin clipping it onto the ribbon. Lastly, I inked the edges of the word strips and adhered them along with the crown and the metal initials and tided off the paper ribbon at the top.

It has been a while since I crafted with my collection of Tim Holtz products, and it was fun to play with them. You can't go wrong when you are inspired by Tim. I really like how this turned out and think it would be fun to make more tags along this vintage vein featuring other family members. Be sure to check out the design team creations over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday -Add Some Texture challenge here.

Music

Hi crafty friends! I have wanted to join in Finnabair's Art Daily Cafe monthly challenge the last couple of months but I was swamped at work and not able to at that point. Now with much time on hand, I used the February moodboard/prompt to create this Music art journal page. The theme was Haiga- visual poetry and the colour was Deep Red.

I started out by collaging cream colour tissue paper onto a double page spread in my Moleskin art journal. I added musical notation pieces from the Finnabair Musica decorative tissue. Once that was dry, I used Finnabair white gesso to blend and push that layer back. When that was dry, I stamped with the Finnabair Script stamp and black archival ink. Then, I covered the entire page with Finnabair clear gesso so that it would give it some tooth for the watercolours to stick.

Next, I applied texture paste through the Finnabair Tapestry stencil. While that was drying, I picked through my Prima patterned paper stash to decide what papers would work for what I had in mind. Then, I used a mix of Prima Red Parrot 19 and Cacao 24 watercolours from the Tropicals Confections set to get the desired red colour. I used a brown Stabilo All pencil to add a brown boarder before adding splatters in both the red and black acrylic once set. While that was drying, I cut a journal card from the Printery Collection Page Four patterned paper, distressing the edges and fussy cut out a bunch of roses from the Tales of You & Me A4 Collection Kit patterned paper. I found the perfect Prima felt sticker from my stash to create a ground strip area on which I created the focal point with the journal card for the haiku and the fussy cut florals.

I cut out to butterflies and added them along with the Prima fabric letter stickers to complete the page.

You can check out what others have created on Finnabair's blog here or use the hashtag #dailyartcafe on Instagram or Facebook. Now I look forward to tackling January's- Maps and March's - Moonlight moodboards too.

Love to Create

Hi crafty friends!

Today, I have an art journal page to share with you. The theme was inspired by this month's Dina Wakley Media Tribe's All About Love challenge and the product technique use by Simon Says Stamp Monday Crack it Up Challenge.

After using emboss ink through a Donna Downey script stencil and heat embossing with Tim Holtz Faded Jeans and Broken China Distress emboss powders, I coloured the Strathmore 400 Series mix media paper with both Picked Raspberry Distress Stain and Dina Wakley Blackberry Violet Acrylic paint. Once dry, I added the Distress Clear Rock Candy Crackle paint to some areas of my background and set it aside to do its crackle thing. While that was setting up, I covered a rectangular piece of cardstock with Dina Wakley washi tape and then freehand cut out a heart. Next, I adhered the fabric trim and then ran it through the sewing machine to give it a messy stitched look. When the crackle paint was dry, I used a black Stabilo All pencil along the edge and activated it with a waterbrush adding more All pencil to the crackle areas to make them stand out.

Once that was dry, I glued down the heart, stapled the transparent Tim Holtz letters and adhered the computer generated "to create" cardstock strips.

Head on over to the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog here to check out the DT's inspirational pieces along with other participant's takes on this week's challenge.

Leaful Thanks

Hello crafty friends! Today I have a fall themed thank you card that I am sharing over on the Magenta blog.

Supplies: Doodled Leaf stamp, Be Thankful stamp, Autumn Leaves stencil, patterned papers (Magenta), Kraft paper (The Paper Company), Texture Paste, Clear Rock Distress Candy Crackle Paint, Candied Apple and Mustard Stain Distress ink, Sunshine Yellow Alchohol ink, Multi-Medium Matte (Ranger), burlap, muslin and hemp twine (Misc.)

On a 5 x 5 1/2" kraft card base, I stamped the Doodled Leaf with Candied Apple Distress ink. I used a waterbrush to move the colour to fill the leaf and added some red splatters. Once dry, I restamped the leaf to darked the image. On burlap, I stenciled the oak leaf with Texture Paste and on muslin, I stenciled the poplar leaf with Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. Once they were dry, I added Mustard Seed Distress ink to the oak leaf and Sunshine Yellow Alcohol ink on the poplar leaf. Then, I fussy cut the bird on a branch from the Last Serenade pattered paper. Next, I heat emboss stamped the Thankful part of the Be Thankful sentiment stamp and add brown marker to create shadows. Then, I wrapped the card with hemp twine and secured it before adhering all the other pieces in layers.

This was a fun card to make. I love all the textures of this one. Hope you found some inspiration from it today.

Enjoy the Little Things

For this week's Simon Says Monday Monochrome challenge, I created a double sided mixed media bookmark with some new to me KaiserCraft goodies.

While I like both sides, in the end, I really love how the "B" side turned out and it best represents the Monochrome theme. I coloured the background with a combination of Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink and Cracked Pistachio Distress ink. Next, I stamped the KaiserCraft Flutter stamp and then coloured the butterflies with Peacock and Turquoise Dina Wakley Scribble Sticks. Once it was dry, I restamped the image to replace the butterflies' line details. Once that was dry, I black heat embossed stamped "the little things" part of the KaiserCraft Antiquities stamp and splattered a little bit of gold with Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz. The sewing came after as part of adhering the fabric on the "A" side.

The "A" side was gold stenciled on canvas with the KaiserCraft Distress Dots after the canvas was stitched to the cardstock base along with the strip of KaiserCraft Amore patterned paper. I also punched a circle out and adhered it to the top prior to hole punching as a reinforcer for the Cracked Pistachio and Evergreen Bough Distress Ink coloured seam binding crinkle ribbon. The "Enjoy" was from the same Antiquities stamp which I black heat embossed on vellum and fussy cut out. The butterfly was fussy cut from KaiserCraft Tanished Patterned paper.

Be sure to check out the other wonderful Monochrome creations over at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge site.

Happy Thoughts Magenta Bookmark

With summer vacation, comes time to read and I found that I was in need of a new bookmark so I decided to make some new ones. Today, I am up on the Magenta blog with this mixed media book mark. I used a combination of textures and techniques... gold leaf with a stencil on muslin, emboss resist watercolouring an ATC coin sized flower, and bringing it all together with stitching... in creating this one.

I started by clear heat emboss stamping the smaller Rose Canina stamp on Canson XL watercolour paper and watercolouring it with Rose, Citrus and Paradise Prima Pastel Dreams Confections watercolours. Once it was dry, I used a 2 1/2" circle punch to cut it out.

Next, I cut a 3 x 6 3/4" piece of kraft paper and used my favourite Script and Postmark stamp with VersaMark ink to completetly stamp the entire length of the base.

Then, I cut a 2 1/2" x 6" piece of muslin and removed thread strands to distress it. Next, I used Cosmic Shimmer glue through the Large Old Lace stencil applying it with a small stiff bristle brush. Once it was set, I added the gold leaf and used a brush to burnish and clean it off revealing the guilded areas. (Tip: Using a waffled/grooved static sheet like a Swiffer sheet helps clean up the fly away small bits of gold so that it doesn't get everywhere.)

Then, I white heat emboss stamped the "happy thoughts" part of the Think Happy Thoughts stamp on black cardstock. Now that I had all the parts, I was ready to tack them down with a little gel medium so that I could sew them together.

Supplies: stencil and stamps (Magenta), craft cardstock (CTMH), XL watercolour paper (Canson), Pastel Dreams Watercolour Confections (Prima), VersaMark ink (Tsukineko), clear and white embossing powder (Simon Says Stamp), black cardstock (Bazzill), 2 1/2" circle punch (Stampin' Up), Cosmic Shimmer Foil & Glitter Glue (Creative Expressions), muslin, goldleaf, thread (misc.)

I love the shine of the foil, the feel of the fabric and the softness of the watercoloured flower. This is sure to make me smile everytime I use it. Yes, happy thoughts indeed!
