Sacrofano is a comune (municipality) in the Province o Roum in the Italian region o Lazio, locatit aboot 25 km north o Roum. Locatit near the Monti Sabatini, at the feet o an extinct volcano, it is includit in the Regional Pairk o Veii.
Sacrofano borders the follaein municipalities: Campagnano di Roma, Castelnuovo di Porto, Formello, Magliano Romano, Riano, Roum.
History
[eedit | eedit soorce]They wur oreeginally pairt o the territory o the Etruscan ceety o Veii. Later it wis hame tae numerous Roman villas, which wur abandoned in the 5t-6t centuries. A fundus Scrofanum is mentioned for the first time in 780. A castle wis biggit here probably in the 10t-11t century; in the 13t century it wis a possession o the Prefetti di Vico, an later o the Savelli an the Orsini, who acquired it unner the reign o Pape Gregory XI (1370–1377). Apairt a short conquest bi Cesare Borgia (1503–1516), they kept Sacrofano for nearly three centuries: in 1560 it wis includit in the Duchy o Bracciano. In 1662 the Orsini cedit it tae the Chigi faimily.

- The kirk o San Giovanni Battista, datin frae the 12t century but restored in the 15t century. It haes a tuff bell touer frae the 14t century. The kirk haes an irregular plan, wi a single nave. The 1515 altar, in polychrome marbles, hooses the relic o St. Justin Martyr.
