Last week I mentioned we had been using plaster gauze. I was so surprised by how much fun it was. Caspar made a mask and Otis made a cast of his hand. They would be awesome as Halloween decorations or costumes! Since I've encouraged the boys to play around and experiment with the gauze. It's not a really clean activity but it's not out of control messy either. I've seen other children make amazing volcanos and the options are really endless. Making your own plaster bandages is a great way to save money. Plaster bandages can be used for medical purposes or for casting body parts for art. Getting the consistency for the plaster correct can take a few tries, but once you get it down, the process is easy.

Since it was spring break, someone locked our gates by mistake. This little sister was able to squeeze though the bars and let the other kids in! Our hero! Eighth graders are creating "self portrait masks" for their first project of the year. Today, half of the group had their faces cast in plaster by their classmates. Those having the plaster applied have to wear a shower cap to protect their hair and plastic wrap on their face to protect the skin (leaving the nose holes open of course!). Plaster bandages i used for art. Each of the bandaging rolls is prefilled with plaster powder. Simply dip the plaster-impregnated bandage into water and apply it to the skin or shape and form it as you wish. The papier mache wraps are quick to dry too.
