A bit chilly,

but sunny and bright.

And that didn't keep

the throngs away

at this year's Mardi Gras

parade and party in Soulard.

There's beads and boobs,

and lots of drinking.

And tons of fun.

COME INSIDE

THE WINTER CLIMATRON

Even with warm winter days,

and Spring just around the corner,

it's always a refreshing visit

to the world famous Climatron

at Missouri Botanical Garden.

A year round climate controlled

tropical jungle supporting

hundreds of rare jungle specimens,

waterfalls, rare orchids, palms

and an occasional critter.

The rarefied air and humidity

feels so good on your face.

In the meantime, St. Louis

has been enjoying an especially

mild winter, with balmy temps

bringing trees into early bloom.

has confirmed my suspicions that

Spring is now underway!

Too much mild weather,

not enough freezing cold.

And certainly not enough snow.

Buds are bursting.

Way ahead of schdule.

were the delicate

smaller specimens.

Something so spectacular

about the delicate subtle detail.

Orchids,

as with most exotics,

are all about 

exquisite subtlety.

EARLY SPRING

IN THE WOODS

Our unseasonably warm weather

  leads the way to an early Spring. 

A walk through the woods,

and a keen eye,

   reveals the proof . . . 

trees budding,

green life emerging,

shoots and bulbs,

and wonderful

tree bark bracket mushrooms.

(Some bracket mushrooms

are edible and delicious fungi,

but too difficult to identify

with certainty.

So no thank you.)
