I found some sewing time!
It's been an impossibility since Thanksgiving, and here we are nearly half-way through December already.
I was finally able to sit at my machine, put something binge-able on the telly and just put the pieces through.
The rhythm and hum of the machine joining squares to triangles, making blocks come together.
Due to the difficulty of bus parking, we came up the back of the cathedral and up the side.
One of the things I love about London in December? The trees still have golden leaves. They haven't all fallen yet.
Sent this photo to dad's digital picture frame!
The golden foliage was so beautiful!
And yes...coming up the walk I was humming to myself "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag...."
The colors of golden leaves against the different greys of the cathedral had me thinking of the colors of Moonflower. We gathered with our group to listen to our London guide tell us a bit of the history of this iconic site.

And from the front, across the street.
A couple of folks in our group were lucky enough to score tickets to hear Handel's Messiah being performed inside St. Paul's on one of our "free" evenings in London. They took the tube over and said it was an amazing performance. Lucky ducks!
Click to view All My Tours and join me in my 2025 line up to discovering the crafts, culture and cuisine of Iceland in June, a celebration of quilting & textiles in France, Germany & Switzerland in September, and the treasures of a Bavarian/Austrian Christmas in December.
So what's the weekend plan? I am headed over to Wytheville with a friend to check out the Holiday craft fare. Yes, the hubsters are coming. Which should prove interesting as I am bound and determined to make a quilt shop stop as well.
In consolation, I have mentioned that I am good if they also want to stop at Rural King. LOL!
The red/neutral quilt top will likely not begin to be sewn together until tomorrow. I have the batting I need and hopefully will see it assembled and machine basted so I can start the hand quilting within the next week.
What's on your list for this weekend?
My parents had the same phone number for over 60 years, so that's easy. But I can also remember the numbers for all the neighboring places, because I would call them to send my brothers home for dinner.
ReplyDeleteThe Blocks are like Christmas Poinsettas. Beautiful
ReplyDeletebingeing on very old QuiltCams as I put together old shirts into Chandelier blocks for the last of 3 memory quilts.....
ReplyDeleteBonnie, Your new quilt top reminds me of the marble tiled floor in the Cathedral in Galway! I took photos of the floor and my friend thought I was crazy. It will be a beautiful quilt! Merry Christmas from Western Pennsylvania!

Awe... the red top is fabulous! I do love a two-color quilt... even though I barely do them! London really is beautiful this time of year. Thank you for continuing to share some of your trips. I'm sure there will be some sewing time this weekend... just not today. I love the quote today! My phone number growing up had 6's, 3's & 7's. I about fell out of my chair when we got my youngest daughter's number & her prefix is the exact same as what mine was growing up!! HAHA!! Happy quilting!
ReplyDeleteThat's why my password IS my childhood phone number. . . .
ReplyDeleteI use those numbers too!
DeleteHa! Our phone numbers when I was a child had word name prefixes. Ours was Walnut. Isn't that funny that those things stick with us?
ReplyDeleteBonnie, your pictures are so enjoyable. I am an armchair traveler and I appreciate them so much. Thank you for sharing!! And as far as sew time goes, why does it sometimes seem so hard to get to the sewing room?? I am retired and have just a few commitments. My house is easy to keep tidy and only one of my children live nearby....all that to say, what is keeping me from stitching every single day?? If you figure it out, please let us know. LOL. Merry Christmas, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt could be named Stars ‘n Ribbons.
ReplyDeleteYour new creation makes me think of Kaleidoscopes!
ReplyDeleteI remember my phone number and my grandmothers and my best friend. Love the red and white quilt. It looks like a puzzle to me. Lots of pieces. (Brenda)
ReplyDeleteWe have moved house and it is raining non stop here so yesterday I tidied the sewing room. And I found a basket with Rhododendron Trail
ReplyDeleteIn it - and the best bit is I have already completed 4 parts !! Woohoo so finishing that one off.
Now I am only ten mystery quilts behind lol. 😂
