A downloadable game

You need Scala Player (or Scala) to play this game. Scala Player is NOT freely redistributable and therefor NOT included.

This game is based on Police Quest 1, a game created and published by Sierra On-Line in 1987. But here the roles are switched and you play as Jessie Bains, the antagonist, a drug dealer and a card shark with the intention to take control of the drug trafficking in the city of Lytton.

The game is a point and click type of thing, similar to the game Myst. Some would say it's a fusion of an old text adventure and Myst.

The game isn't finished and a lot of things are incomplete:

  • There's no sound.. or music yet.
  • The graphics are only placeholder-graphics, and as such they are also a bit hastily created.
  • And the story is 20% complete... 30% maybe... Who knows?
  • and the list goes on...

This is my entry to AmiGameJam 2024. I ended up using Scala MM400 because it's awesome (it's a Powerpoint-like software for the Amiga) and I needed an easy-to-use prototyping tool.

My initial submission to AmiGameJam 2024 was a demake of 'Beyond a steel sky'. After some time I realised that I wasn't happy with the result so I withdrew it from the jam. The original game 'Beyond...' contains a ton of cut scenes and without them my version didn't make much sense. Then I got another idea and this is the result so far. I ran out of time and didn't have time to finish it. Maybe someday I will... Nah, probably not. :)

How to play

You just point and click. :) Solve the puzzles and find a way to take control over the city.

Requirements

An Amiga (real or emulated) running AmigaOS 3.x is needed. The game is written using Scala MM400 and it requires a copy of Scala or Scala Player to run (not included). If you are using Scala MM300 (v50.2) then use the compatibility file.

For some reason the compatibility version is a bit wonky and the texts are only visible on the left side of the screen. That's the reason why all texts are aligned to the left. For that reason I really recommend Scala MM400 to be used.

It should run on almost any Amiga with a minimum resolution of 640*512 (with at least 16 colours) running AmigaOS 3.x and Scala.

Installation

Unpack the files to any location. Add the assign below from CLI (or add it to your startupfile):

Assign: tad: <installation folder>

Load the script in Scala and play.

Nice point and click game. I also included it in my new video along with other recently released Amiga games. Good luck with Gamejam!

Great game....

Thanks to a good friend, I have an auto booting HDF with this game, Not sure how to contact you to send it to you but if your interested le met know.

Hi, that would be nice but as far as I know ScalaPlayer isn't freely redistributable, so I can't host it here.

Im no sure how to contact you away from here?

Hi, I appreciate the nice gesture I can't put it here because ScalaPlayer isn't freely redistributable. But thanks nevertheless.

May I ask why you have withdrawn your "Beyond a Steel Sky" contribution to the AmiGameJam and instead submit this game? It is by far not completed....

The original game "Beyond..." contains a ton of cutscenes and without them my clone/version didn't make much sense. In the end I wasn't happy with the result so I withdrew it from the jam. Then I got another idea and this is the result so far. Not completed yet (as stated in the description above very clearly) but with some luck it might happen some day.
