Philippines, just like any other countries in the world, has its own distinct social conditions and political development. In the book of Dante Simbulan, it was stated that the social system of the Philippines is divided into class lines; the taos, middle class, and the caciques or illustrados. The taos are the largest group in number, but also the smallest count in the matter of education. They are hard workers who are often paid barely living wages in the field. On the higher level are large landowners or also known as the caciques or illustrados. Though they are small in numbers, they are wealthy, well-educated, and the persons of influence. The study of Dante Simbulan focuses on the leadership in the Philippines and how its leaders attain their positions of influence and power. He introduced a particular groupthe modern principalia class or also known as the socioeconomic elite. The term "elite" refers to those individuals who are holders of high positions in a given society. There are many types of elites; elites of wealth (economic elite), power (political elite), prestige (social elite), and so forth. According to Simbulan, wealth may not only bring more wealth but may also facilitate the acquisition of power, prestige, skill, education, and other values. Research in political economy stresses the tendency of elites to persist and reproduce their power over time. Political dynasties, a particular form of elite persistence in which a single or few family groups monopolize political power. Political dynasties are very common in many contemporary democracies such as Argentina, India, Japan, Mexico, and Philippines. Our country, the Philippines, is a notable example of a dynastic democracy. Majority of elected Philippine governors and congressmen have a relative or family occupying elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or across different positions. Political dynasties started during the 16 th century when the Spanish conquered the islands of the Philippines. They found out that there were thousands of communities all over the archipelago, each was led by a datu or rajah. With the help of these datus in different communities, the Spaniards subjugate the people of the islands. They established a system called reduccion, where they put the entire population under one centralized government. This

It was first published in 1971 by a Filipino Maoist revolutionary and the founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines, Jose Ma. Sison, under his pseudonym Amado Guerrero. Philippine Society and Revolution made a huge impact on Philippine politics and on the Filipino mass movement since its first publication. It serves as a starting point for activists, educators, and people who are interested in understanding the veracious history of the Philippine Society. In his introduction, he stated that the Philippine Society and Revolution uses Marxist-Leninist interpretation of the Philippine society and its basis in the past. The book was also divided into three parts: A Review of the Philippine History, Basic Problems of the Filipino People, and The People's Democratic Revolution. But in this paper, we will only focus on Chapter 8-The Present Puppet Republic of the Philippines. Throughout the Philippine history, Filipinos have undergone different colonial experiences that caused changes in our systems, beliefs, and society. The U.S. imperialism started after the Spanish-American War in 1898 when the Spain conceded its perennial colony of the Philippines to the United States in the Treaty of Paris. Within the year, the U.S. government declared a military rule in the country. Different forms of enormity such as massacres, assassinations, and torture were executed which led to the occupation of the United States in the Philippines and the establishment of the Philippine Commonwealth. During this era, the U.S. imperialism made a fake promise to the Filipinos about granting them the "independence" they desired while hiding their true agenda towards the Philippines.

According to Professor Constantino, the goal of this book is to eliminate the distortions imposed by colonial scholarship and to redress the imbalance inherent in conventional historiography by projecting the role of the people. Renato Constantino was a famous Filipino historian, nationalist, and scholar who taught us to reexplore our colonial history for a clearer understanding of the past and its impact in the present time. He wrote literature about politics, economics, history, culture, international relations, agriculture, and above all on social psychology. Constantino reminisces the past of the Philippine History from the point of view of the Filipino and the major events that made the Philippine regain its freedom. Before we were colonized by Spain for over 300 years, then by the United States, which came briefly under Japanese, the region was filled with indigenous people that had a healthy trading with different cultures and economies inside the region and as well as in foreign trading. In 1946, the Philippines finally declared its independence. The first two chapters of the book talked about the beginning to entering history and up to the first liberations made. With its relevance to the pre-colonial period of the Philippines, the timeline that was mentioned talks about how early Filipinos had their own independence before the colonization of the three different nations (Spain, United States, and Japan). The pre-colonial Philippines was believed to be living peacefully before it was colonized. Early Filipinos had their own civilization which partly came from the Malay settlers. According to my research, Filipinos were composed of different groups that came from different parts of Asia and soon formed their own community, system of education, and beliefs. The communities they formed were composed of 50 to 2,000 individuals as they built their shelters in different areas
