Jantares após as Sessões da Loja – “FESTIVE BOARDS”
Caros Irmãos,
Nossos jantares e almoços, após as reuniões, que em inglês é conhecido como “Festive Board”, na
maçonaria é tão importante quanto qualquer sessão da Loja.
Os jantares, “Festive Boards”, não são ritualísticos, mas sim, PROTOCOLARES. Temos visto há alguns
anos, serem denominados erroneamente como “ritualísticos”. A expressão “jantar ritualístico” não tem
fundamento em nossas tradições.
O “Festive Board” oferece aos Irmãos a oportunidade de desfrutar do lado social da Maçonaria, bem como
do lado mais formal, PROTOCOLAR. Deve-se lembrar que seguem as formalidades protocolares ditadas
pela GLUI, com estruturas e regras de comportamento, não impedindo que os Irmãos se confraternizem.
Depois de encerrada a Loja, os Irmãos podem ter alguns minutos informais antes que o Diretor de
Cerimônias os chame para ocuparem seus lugares a mesa.
O anúncio: "A Ordem Irmãos, para receber o Venerável Mestre" leva os Irmãos a aplaudirem de forma
entusiástica e espontânea a chegada do Venerável Mestre. Terminada as palmas, inicia-se o protocolo.
Notas que devem ser lembradas:
1- O Festive Board não é “ritualístico”, mas PROTOCOLAR.

2- Não há tradução para o termo "Festive Board", sugerimos que, como termo peculiar à tradição
maçônica inglesa, que não seja traduzido. Sugere-se "Festive Board – Jantar após a sessão”
3- Oração - Quando o Mestre chega a sua cadeira, ele bate seu malhete, que é respondido pelos
Vigilantes, e pede ao Capelão para fazer a Oração. Pode ser apresentada de diferentes maneiras,
embora muitas Lojas usem a antiga Oração, "Scholl”, dita ou cantada.
4- Malhete – Conforme consta na Cerimônia de Instalação, o malhete é o emblema de poder e
autoridade do Mestre, portanto deverá permanecer com ele durante todo o jantar. A atenção que o
Mestre recebe depois de bater o malhete, não depende do nível do som da batida! Os Irmãos devem
imediatamente ficar em silêncio por respeito ao Mestre, não ao seu malhete. Embora seja tradicional,
em muitas Lojas e alguns Distritos e Províncias, o Venerável Mestre Imediato ou o Diretor de
Cerimônias batem o malhete, porém, ainda está sob o comando exclusivo do Venerável Mestre.
5- Brindes: O Distrito distribui (quando necessário) a lista atualizada dos BRINDES protocolares, a
serem seguidos nos “Festive Boards”. As Lojas devem sempre adotar a última lista de brindes
recebida.
6- “Loving Cup: Trata-se de um costume muito antigo, a passagem da “Loving Cup” ao novo aprendiz
(E.A.). Esta prática tradicional, saudável e emocionante, comum em muitas Lojas do Distrito, pode ser
incentivada, mas sempre, que seja uma opção da Loja.

FESTIVE BOARDS
Dear Brethren,
The Festive Board is an important part of a Masonic meeting, as an extension to the work done in
the Lodge.
It affords Brethren the opportunity to enjoy the social side of Freemasonry with the protocol of a
Festive Board, as per UGLE traditions. The Festive Board is a "formal" affair, with its structure and
rules, although allowing Brethren to socialize.
After leaving the Temple, Brethren will have informal time for refreshments before the Director of
Ceremonies calls them to their places at the Festive Board. The announcement "To order, Brethren,
to receive your Worshipful Master", prompts Brethren to applaud – in an enthusiastic and
spontaneous manner, which gives commencement to the protocol.
1- The Festive Board is not "ritualistic", it is PROTOCOL. “Ritualistic dinner”, does not exist in
English Masonry.
2- There is no translation for the term "Festive Board", we suggest that as a term peculiar to
the English Masonic tradition it should not be translated.
3- Grace – When the Master arrives at his chair, he sounds his gavel (answered by the
Wardens) and calls on the Chaplain to say Grace. This can be delivered in different ways,
although many Lodges use the old "school" Grace. After the meal "Laudi Spirituali", a Grace
whose origin can be traced as far back as 1336 (and is probably much older than that) is
often said or sung.
4- The Gavel – As is stated in the Installation Ceremony, the gavel is the Masters’ emblem of
power and authority, and should, therefore, remain with him throughout the proceedings. The
attention the Master receives after sounding the gavel, does not depend on the level of noise
he makes! The Brethren should immediately be silent out of respect for the Master, not his
gavel. Whilst it is traditional in many Lodges and some Provinces, for the I.P.M. or D.C. to
sound the gavel, it is still under the sole control of the Master.
5- Toasts – The District (whenever necessary) distributes updated list of TOASTS to be used
at the Festive Boards to all Lodges. Lodges are required to use the updated version.
6- Loving Cup – a very old custom of passing round of the Loving Cup after the E.A. song is
sung. This traditional practice, although at the discretion of each Lodge, is encouraged.
