RESUMOS
The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been described in the nucleus of
primary tumors and cancer cells. We have demonstrated that EGFR translocates from
plasma membrane to the nucleus of tumor cells. Accumulation of nuclear EGFR is
linked to DNA synthesis and cell proliferation, but the pathological significance of
nuclear EGFR is not completely understood. Here, we demonstrated the nuclear
localization of EGFR in invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) that is an aggressive
neoplasm of canine mammary gland. We found that EGFR co-localizes with the inner
nuclear envelope marker, Lamin B1. Our findings indicate that IMPC appears to
present high rates of nuclear EGFR. This finding could be related to aggressive
behavior of this tumor in canine species and human beings.
