This clever corvid, with its piercing pale eyes and distinctive grey nape, thrives in urban environments across Europe and western Asia.

Crows are the smartest birds in the animal kingdom who give zero ducks. Want proof? Just take a look at any of the funny photos below. Crows (and corvids, the family that includes crows, ravens, rooks, and magpies), like to pull the tails of birds and animals who are twice as big as them because they are not afraid. Some argue that this unusual bird behavior was developed to snatch food away - but the other theory is that these cool birds simply like to behave like major assholes.

Like other members of the Corvidae family, the rooks plumage is all black with a notable iridescent sheen up close. The main feature that sets them apart from their relatives is the grey-white skin at the base of its long, pointed beak. They are highly gregarious creatures often found in the company of jackdaws (another member of the crow family) & are known to be rather loud, making them much easier to spot. Did you know that a group of crows is called a murder? Or that crows actually recognize faces and can even hold a grudge on you? And what about their incredible intelligence? These outstanding birds are able to read traffic lights, they have different dialects that they can change, and when they die, their neighbors sometimes even hold a funeral for the bird. Sounds pretty cool, right?

The crow is just one cool bird: these black birds are known to be a farmer’s worst nightmare. But is keeping a crow as a pet a smart idea? (Hint: it’s not!)
