This novel tells the story of Liberty Speelmier, a young woman who has spent over fifteen years in a battered and abusive relationship. Her personal experiences mirror many cases that I have witnessed personally or via social media. This novel takes you on Liberty's journey on getting out and starting over. Liberty, a young, bashful woman who has been stuck in a physical, mental, and emotionally abusive relationship for over fifteen years, has always wondered what it would be like to be free. The day that her abuser tied her up, shot her, lit her on fire, and left her for dead, she vowed she would do what she had to do to get out if she survived. To her surprise, her strength allowed her to do just that. While in the hospital recuperating, she met a male nurse, Bill, who sat by her bedside as she recovered. He had just recently lost his wife and daughter to a drunk driver, and helping Liberty was something he felt he needed to do. Once she had recovered enough to go home, Bill helped her master up a plan to get her out of Tennessee where she could start over her new life and begin to heal from years of abuse. He offered her a new place to live in Arizona, over nineteen hours from where she currently resided. She had no family, so she immediately jumped on the offer. Within a couple of days, she was pulling up in front of her new Victorian-style home. When she first arrived, she was met by the hunky next-door neighbor, the displeasing and rude housekeeper, and the annoying in-your-business lady from across the street. She felt overwhelmed but quickly told herself she was in a new place and not everyone was out to harm her. She quickly made herself at home, but that only lasted for a day before she started to experience things inside the house that had her on edge. She found roses on the counter in the kitchen next to her when she woke up from a nap in the living room, a pig gutted over her bed, and weird noises coming from different parts of the house. She quickly felt like she was back home waiting for the next beating. She relied on her neighbor with apprehension to figure out what was happening. It was too late when she finally figured out what was behind the noises and placement of roses. She was once again tied up in the attic and ready for her life to end. She never thought the one man she looked at as family would turn on her and try to do the same thing to her as he helped her out of.
