The young lady does not seem ...See moreCommodore Sloat, of the American Navy, demands of the Mexican Governor the surrender of California. The Commodore's Lieutenant, Tom Marston, is impressed with the beauty of the Governor's daughter, Manuelita. The young lady does not seem at all displeased. That night the lieutenant runs a great risk for another sight of Manuelita. Dressed as a Mexican he approaches the house of the fair Mexican girl but shortly after his arrival he is discovered, pursued and captured. To shield Manuelita he dares death by saying "I am a spy." Manuelita, learning of his arrest rows out in a boat to the American man-of-war, where a rescue party is quickly formed. Rapidly gaining the shore a run is made for the settlement. Lieutenant Marston is freed just as he is to be shot as a spy, and the capture of the colony is affected. Written by
