The Open XAL accelerator physics software platform is being developed through an international collaboration among several facilities since 2010. The goal of the collaboration is to establish Open XAL as a multi-purpose software platform supporting a broad range of tool and application development in accelerator physics and highlevel control (Open XAL also ships with a suite of general purpose accelerator applications). This paper discusses progress in beam dynamics simulation, new RF models, and updated application framework along with new generic accelerator physics applications. We present the current status of the project, a roadmap for continued development and an overview of the project status at each participating facility.

Open XAL project is a pure-Java open source development environment used for creating accelerator physics applications, scripts and services. Working with Open XAL requires developing a Java application with a prominent graphical user interface, allowing the final user to interact with the accelerator model, and to graphically view the results such interaction produced. Nevertheless the Open XAL support for specialized components1 and for a document-view application framework2, a lot of boilerplate code has still to be created, making the developer spending more time in UI than in accelerator physics code. The paper presents the architecture and new functionalities implemented for the TerraSAR-X ground segment system by the synergy of DIMS (DLR’s Data and Information Management System) and KIM (Knowledge based Image Information Mining system). In the spirit of the KEO (Knowledge Centred EO) concept, this system aims at simplifying the access to, and therefore expanding the use of multi-mission EO data. This achievement comes from the use of emerging technologies for Image Information Mining (IIM), which enables also the selection of images via their content, and for simplified service publication, provision and chaining, as implemented in the ESA Service Support Environment (SSE). The KEO System [1], outcome of ESA KEO Project’s phase II [2], nevertheless being the successor of the prototype developed during project’s phase I, overcome to substantial improvements over its predecessor in both architectural and usability aspects [3]. The KAOS client application specifically addressed the usability aspects, dramatically enhancing the GUI tools developed for previous KES, KIM and KIMV projects [4, 5]. The new developments inside the CS-Studio community [1–4] were made using the JavaFX platform [5–9] to overcome the limitations and difficulties of using Eclipse SWT. MARS has been conceived a s an integrated environment i n which a graphical user interface, an embedded real-time operating system and two IRIS digital audio processors are linked together to create a flexible and an interactive workstation for audio research, musical production a nd computer music pedagogy. MARS has been used i n a wide range of research, musical nd teaching contexts such as universities, music conservatories, computer music research centers, music studios, interactive museums, and in the musical instruments and audio industry. The first version o f MARS, which has been presented a t the ICMC92 was running on Atari computers. I n this paper IRIS will present the new version o f the MARS workstation which has been entirely redesigned for the PC worl d.
