Chickens & Gardening • Lyndsey Gaskins on Instagram: "PART 2 JUST POSTED 👏 Check it out in my feed. Here’s why I love sand in my coop: •It is extremely easy to clean - Rake, sift, dump! (Shovel is linked in my profile under Amazon faves) •It keeps your hens clean - It’s a natural dust bath. •Sand lasts forever - You never have to clean out old sand, just add a little here and there as it depletes. •It’s affordable - Most construction companies will drop off loads of sand for a fraction of the cost compared to other bedding options (I found mine from a local company advertising on Facebook marketplace). Alysha Whitfield | Bee Jeweled Coop on Instagram: "Here is what you need to know about the game-changing chicken run substrate: SAND!

✅ Sand is great at draining and not retaining moisture.

✅ Lower moisture levels lead to lower bacteria and mold loads compared to other materials like shavings or straw.

✅ Bye-bye, insects! Sand isn’t their thing.

✅ Super easy to clean.

✅ It’s a natural spa & digestion aid for your chickens – dust baths & grit all in one!

Wondering which sand to choose and where to find it? 🤔
👉🏼 Sand can vary, so it’s best to see it yourself. Visit a local landscape company and look for:

• Medium grit, not too fine.
• Smooth, not sharp (like pebbly river sand).
• NOT play sand (it can be harmful to the chickens respiratory systems)
• Washed sand is a great choice Sand For Chicken Coop, Chicken Coop Sand, Homestead Animals, Running Gif, Play Sand, Natural Spa, Dust Bath, Animal Ideas, Chicken Run

Chickens & Gardening • Lyndsey Gaskins on Instagram: "Time to grab your shovel and get to work! In order to keep your sand nice and loose, you should turn it like this when it starts to dry after getting real wet. It will make your life so much easier in the long run. This sand is called arena sand, or construction sand. If you’re thinking about using sand it just needs to be real coarse and gritty or it can be harmful to your chickens because of the fine dust. We love sand because it’s easy clean up, it’s affordable, and it’s a natural dust bath for the ladies.
