September Stitch Fix Review

It has been a minute since I've used Stitch Fix.  Like pre-pandemic.  I haven't done much with my wardrobe for the last couple of years.  But as we're getting more and more back to normal, we're having in-person meetings and get-togethers way more frequently.  It's time to take a closer look at what I'm wearing.  Stitch Fix to the rescue!

Let me explain how it works for those who may not know about Stitch Fix or are on the fence about trying it.  You let them know your styling preferences and how often you would like to get a "fix".  A "fix" consists of 5 items.  There are several ways to communicate with your stylist.  After filling out an online survey to understand what you like and your size, you can also send them a note or pictures so they better understand what you're looking for.  The styling fee is $20, which will be credited if you purchase anything from your box.

I love opening the box and inspecting all the goodies inside.  My September fix consisted of 2 tops, 1 pair of pants, jewelry, and 1 sweater.

Out of the five items, three are going in my closet to keep.  I'm sending back one of the tops and the jewelry.  They are not going back because I didn't like them, I just didn't love them.  What I did love was one blouse, the pair of pants and the sweater.

The pants fit perfectly and have the cutest detail on the hem.  There's a little cut-away on the side of the hem that adds a touch of flair.  They will be great for work or play.

Purple isn't something I have a ton of in my wardrobe, so the top and sweater will be a great addition.  The blouse has a scalloped neckline which I love!

The purple sweater matches the top, but will also work great with other tops I have in my closet.  Love it!

This top is going back ~

I thought about keeping it too, but it's cotton, and not sure how it would look after I washed it a few times.  The thought of having to iron it helped me make the decision to send it back.

Cozy Funnel Neck Sweater!

When the weather turns cold, don't we all just love to reach in the closet and grab something that's cozy and comfortable?  I know I sure do and today I'm sharing a sweater that I just can't get in too many colors.

I originally bought this Loft Outlet sweater in navy blue and absolutely loved it.  The material is nice and soft.  Add that to the fact that it's machine washable and I knew I would be going back for additional colors.  If those two facts aren't enough to make you want one, it's currently on sale for only $14.99!  How many would you like?!?  The one pictured is Chinois Green.  It's also available in Industrial Navy, Medium Grey Heather, Orchid Breeze, and Winter Violet.  Click HERE to check them out.

For work, I wore it with a pair of camel-colored pants and my new favorite heels.  I have gotten a ton of compliments on these shoes and they, too, are super comfortable.

The sweater is great to wear with jeans and booties too.  It's just so darn comfortable!

One of the main reasons I purchase the green color was to match a pair of earrings I got in my Rocksbox set.  You guys know about Rocksbox, right?  Just in case you don't, the summary is it's a subscription service that sends you three pieces of jewelry at a time for a monthly fee.  You keep them for as long as you like.  When you send them back, they send you three more pieces of jewelry.  The monthly fee, $21, can be used towards the purchase of any of your pieces.  These earrings stayed with me.  If you would like a free month of Rocksbox, visit their website (Rocksbox.com) and enter the referral code PENNYBFF15.

Accessorize Your Wellies!

Last weekend we got a massive amount of rain followed by a dusting of snow.  The only reason I was slightly happy there was precipitation happening outside was the fact that I could wear my wellies while running my errands!

'

Soon after I had made my investment in a pair of Hunter boots, my daughter-in-law and son (I know it was more my daughter-in-law's idea so thanks Kayla!) gifted me a couple pairs of Hunter Boot Socks.  One of the best gifts ever!  It's fun being able to put a layer of personalization to the boots.

Another bonus to the socks is their added warmth.  Below that turn-down cuff is a boot made of fleece that will keep your toes warm even on the blisteriest of winter days.  They slip right into the boot and are oh so comfortable.

Everyone could use a pair (or seven) to add to their boots!  I'm definitely thinking about adding these fur toppers to my collection.

Or these adorable pink and black leopard print ones!

Let's face it - they are all adorable!  Whatever pair you slip under your boots is sure to add a little piazza to your pair.

What A Deal!

When sales catalogs show up in my mailbox, rarely can I just dispose of them without flipping through the pages.  Many times, this pays off in the form of a random coupon somewhere in the flyer.  This was the case in the last mailing from Chico's.  On the pages inside was a $25 off coupon for a $25 purchase.  Basically, a free $25!

It didn't take too long for me to beeline to my nearest Chico's to see what I could snag with my coupon!  As luck would have it, they had a beautiful pair of winter white pants on sale for $29.  You guessed it - I snagged them for a grand total of $4!!

Even if you don't have a $25 coupon, these pants are a steal for $29.  They have the So Slimming technology that offers tummy control and are oh so comfortable to wear.

Juliet Straight-Leg Pants

I paired them with a sweater from J.Jill and a blouse from Van Heusen.  If I'm getting ready for work or going out to lunch, this outfit is a winner!  Click HERE to see them and all the colors they come in.

Fashion Find - Blu Pepper Dress

Hey guys!  I'm sharing a fashion find with you today.  I know - I'm not a fashion blogger and it will be very evident in the pictures I talked Eric into taking.  Don't get me wrong, he was more than willing to take the pictures, but I didn't want any of the passing cars seeing me try to model a dress AND we were in a hurry to get to an event AND the sun was blinding me.  Put all that together and let's just say it was a pretty tense photo shoot!

Many of you commented on the outfit I wore to EarthDance's Farmers Formal so I wanted to share where you could get it before this dress was gone for the season.

There's a backstory to me choosing this outfit.  I had been on the hunt for something to wear to the Farmers Formal.  A few weeks ago when I visited Hermann with some girl friends, I spotted this exact outfit on a lady waiting to catch the Amtrak train with us.  I was going to ask her about where she got it on the train, but she was in business class and we were not.  Later in the day I spotted her doing a wine tasting and practically ran over to her to ask about her attire.

She happened to pick her's up at a boutique in Columbia, Missouri and I knew I would be no where around that location before I needed the dress.  She was extremely accommodating and let me take a peak at the label.  Blu Pepper was the brand and I was able to find the exact one at Dillard's.  You can get one by clicking HERE.

Notice the adorable lace ruffle at the bottom - well that is a slip I picked up on good ole' Amazon.  It's available HERE.  I'm looking forward to finding other dresses I can wear this slip under.

I happened to have this Kate Spade bag, which worked perfectly with this outfit.  Don't you love when you already have accessories that work?!?
Available HERE
I also love wearing cowboy boots whenever I can get away with it.  Are you in need of a pair?  Mine are Justin and are SOOOOOO comfortable.

My old reliable jean jacket came along in case it cooled off later in the evening.  I remember when I did an impulse buy with this jacket years ago and thought it was too expensive.  Little did I know that ten years later I would still be wearing it.  Turns out, I've definitely got my money's worth out of it!  With the jacket, this outfit should definitely be wearable into the Fall.
If you see me out and about on the next coming weekends, you will probably get an opportunity to see this outfit in person.  I have plans to wear it as much as possible before it has to go away until Spring!

Weekending - November 20, 2015

Hello - My name is Penny and I'm a procrastinator.  There, I said it.  I took off last Thursday and Friday to get totally prepared for Thanksgiving and, well, I'm honestly no further along being ready for Thanksgiving than I was last Wednesday before I took vacation.  But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy my last few days.  Here's what went down.....

My husband, Eric, works in a grocery store and you can imagine how busy he is this time of year.  He had to work on Saturday and Sunday, so I knew if I wanted to spend any time with him over the next couple weeks I needed to take vacation on Thursday and Friday to take advantage of his time off.  So that's exactly what I did!  Thursday we were going to clean and reorganize our pantry.  It's started, and over half done.  But not COMPLETE.  I thought I could finish it on Friday  Saturday  Sunday  sometimes over the weekend.  Nope.  Didn't happen (the procrastinating mentioned above).  Monday.  Definitely going to finish it on Monday.  I did get the front door decorated for fall.

Since Eric had to go to work in the afternoon on Friday, we turned the a.m. into date morning.  We headed to Panera for our favorite breakfast sandwich on asiago bagel.  Yum!!  Just what we needed to start our date.

Next it was on to our movie of the week - Mockingjay Part II.  Loved it!  After four years, the story is done.  If you haven't read the books, I would highly recommend them.

Friday when Eric left for work, I hit some shops looking for something to wear to our Saturday evening event.  I was trying to match a pair of pants I had purchased a couple weeks ago.  Like a fool, I didn't take them with me and brought apparel that didn't remotely work.  So I loaded myself (and the pants) back in the car for round two of shopping.  After trying on 1349385 items, I decided to ditch the already purchased pants and go a completely different route.  The final product was this gorgeous Chico sweater with a pair of black velvet pants hanging in my closet.

I paired it with a gold blouse and a statement necklace.  Round two of shopping was worth it -- loved the way the whole look came together.

Saturday morning I met some friends at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows for their Girls' Day Out event.  One of the rooms in the Shrine was set up with decorated Christmas trees from around the world.  They were so beautiful!  Take a peek at some of them.

From there, I headed out to meet some friends Sharyn, Eric and Audrey for lunch.  Sharyn and I have been friends since grade school and it's always a great time to get together with her family.

We dined at a place I hadn't been to before - Twister Ranch.  Loved it!  This is a cute little corner restaurant very close to Soulard Market.  Everything they serve comes with a side of ranch.  Not just any ranch,  They have their own secret homemade ranch recipe and it's in every dish on their menu.  In addition to their classic ranch, they also have dozens of ranch flavors.  Fun place!

Saturday night, Eric and I attended the annual NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Gala.  It's such a great organization doing so many things that it was an honor to attend.  Their mission is to improve the quality of life of persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and their families, and promote and provide community support, education, advocacy and understanding.

They had several amazing items on their silent auction.  Have you participated in a silent auction lately?  This was the first time I participated in one that you could do on your smart phone.  What a great idea!  You bid from your phone.  If someone outbid you, you received a text and could rebid without leaving your seat.  This is how our table looked before the silent auction closed ~

Remember THIS POST when I talked about my fall goals?  One of them was to lay on the couch one whole Sunday afternoon and watch football.  Check that off!  Sunday I literally laid around all day watching TV.  Yes, the pantry chore was still needing to be finished.  But being the procrastinator that I am, laying on the couch watching TV just sounded like a better thing to do.  Thank heavens my husband is as understanding as he is!!

So how was your weekend?  Hope you enjoyed the weekend before Thanksgiving.  I'm going to have a fun week getting ready for company.  Thursday will be a fun day!  So let's get this week started!

Check out what others were up to this weekend.
