Scrapadabadoo Sizzling Summer Blog Hop

Welcome to the
Scrapadabadoo
If you are just coming across the hop, you will want to go to the
Scrapadabadoo Blog and start from the very beginning.

My bike was a project that just sort of grew as time went on.
Ever heard Leonardo da Vinci's quote,
"Art is never finished, only abandoned"
Well either that is the case or else I "just don't know when to leave well enough alone."
( I will let you be the judge.) LOL

I knew I wanted to use the Prima Stationer's Desk paper pack
because it was my favorite at the time I started working on this.
(my hubby claims I pick a new favorite every time I see a new paper line. LOL)

Of course I knew I wanted to make several handmade paper roses.
They were cut from white cardstock using my own cut file and digital cutting machine.

Next I decided to stain some ivory trim using Aged Mahogany stain.
Then I got the idea of using teal colored seam binding behind it for more contrast and color. I used TH Peacock Feathers distress stain for that.
(I have an old video on how to color seam binding here.)
I used 2 rows of the seam binding on the top and bottom then covered them with the decorative trim.
I happened to have some Swarovski crystals in my stash that where the perfect colors.
I hotfixed them on.

I lined the inside and outside of the big wheel frame with the Stationer's Desk paper which added color and gave me something to glue the other embellishments onto.
I added paper to the back and "precision" cut some of the roses from the paper line.
The fussy cut sections were layered into the frame.
The top area needed something.
If you know me, butterflies are usually my answer. LOL

I used a really old paper punch and some of the Prima cloth covered wire to allow my little butterflies to flitter about.
Of course they had to had a little Diamond Stickles. :)

Next I added one of my Detailed Butterflies that I cut from white cardstock and colored with Aged Mahogany and Autumn Maple Crimson. The added some touches of Stickels.

Since I had the wire out I got a good idea to wrap the handles and body of the Penny Farthing. At least it sounded like a good idea until I realised how long it would take. LOL

(if I had taken the bike off the base like Debi did,
the wire wrapping would not have been as difficult. LOL)

Then the bike sat on my desk for a while.
It just did not quite seem finished to me.

It finally dawned on me that it needed an adorable little bird to sit on the seat.
So I got out the Air dried clay and ivory Flower Soft
I used the same colors that I mentioned for the seam binding and trim.
(There is a new video on the Scrapadabadoo Crafts YT
channel on how to color Flower Soft.)

I just love this little guy!

Bird in a Blinged Cage

I shared a card last week with a birdcage cut file on it. I played around with it some more and made this A2 shaped card from it. (I needed to make it bigger so the roses were not so little)

This one is for my sister-in-law's birthday. I decided it needed a little bling. (LOL)

I used the Twinkling H2O on the cage then went over that with Gilder's Paste. It does not show up in the picture but it has sooo much shimmer.

The little birdie was inked with Broken China and given a tiny little rhinestone for an eye.

Check out the yellow background...I STAMPED that. Yes ME! LOL I am finally getting to where I like the results when I stamp.

I blended Scattered Straw on the paper then stamped over it with a Tim Holtz stamp in the same color. I really like that color. The edges are lightly inked in Black Soot and I went back and inked the top of the back cage cover after I took this photo so it blended in better.

The roses are inked in Worn Lipstick and the leaves inked in Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters, and Forest Moss.

I have an old video on the leaves on YouTube. The Regal Roses and birdcage files will be available in my Etsy Shop.

We are having great weather here, Hope it does not get too bad for our friends on the East Coast. :)

Yellow Roses on Birdcage

Well, I was going to wait until my sister got this card before I posted it, but changed my mind.
I made a new birdcage file that I am excited about and since the other yellow roses turned out so well a few weeks ago, I went with yellow again.
(Scattered Straw with Wild Honey on the edges. The leaves are Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint with a tiny bit of Evergreen Bough)

The last few roses are the smallest I had made in a long time. I did not want to have the roses so big that they looked too big for the cage.

I am so happy with the effect I got with the birdcage.
It does not show up as well in the photo, but it looks a little like metal in person.
I used white cardstock to cut out with one of my cut files. (I have a lot planned with this file so you will definitely be seeing it again soon.)
I stained it with Black Soot distress stain because it gives a mottled look when it dries. Then I applied some German Silver gilder's paste in a few areas.

Of course I added some bling because everybody like a little bling. :)
Check out the tiny stone in the glittered bird's eye. Too cute!

Operations Write Home Cards

Well, I finished all my OWH cards and have them ready to mail. I ended up making 25 and only 3 of them were duplicate designs. Don't worry, I am not going to try to show all of them. LOL

Here are a few of my favorites:
The bird is one of my die cuts. I inked it with Peeled Paint adf stamped the SU flourish with Chipped Sapphire. The Swirly Vine is one of Penny Duncan's files.

This card was made with Graphic 45 Tropical Travelogue papers. I added one of Penny's Hibiscus files that I inked with Wild Honey.

This was made from my own files. I used a Lattice Edged Mat and Pretty Flowers and leaves. It is simple, but I like it.

I have been making 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 cards for so long now it was challenging to go back to A2 sized cards. It was good practice though. The other challenge was not making bulky flowers like I usually do. I wanted to stick with designs that would be easy to mail. The funny thing was that I don't use a whole lot of glitter, but once I knew I could not use any, glitter was the one thing that kept popping in my head. LOL

Hope you get inspired to make some cards for OWH to send to our heroes. :)

Scalloped Birdhouse Box

Here is another version of my birdhouse box. This one has scalloped edges along the roof and base.

The roof also has little scalloped tiles.

I also added a "leafy flourish" to the front of the roof.

Here is a download for a free svg file for the leafy flourish.

The roof is the box lid.

I made a paper flower that I call a "simple daisy". You can find a tutorial on this and a free download of the svg and pdf on the "easy flower tutorial" tab under my blog header.

I cut the petals from white cardstock and inked the edges. I added a large teal colored rhinestone to the center.

Hope you enjoyed looking at my birdhouse box. I am off to go play with more designs :)

Bird on branch

I have been working on more masculine projects the past few weeks and I missed my paper flowers. So I made this card just because it was on my mind.

This is the same bird I used on the atc and gave out the cut files for.
I did not make the bird cut files from stratch, I copied them, but the branch, flowers, and scalloped tag are mine. I have made these flowers a lot. I use what I call my tattered flowers file to cut 2 large flowers and 2 smaller flowers. Then I ink them, curl the petals down for the large flowers and up for the smaller flowers. I stack them while rotating the petals to stagger them. Last, I add seed beads to the center.

I stamped the bird with a Stampin Up stamp from the Barouque Motifs set and embossed it with pearl embossing powder.

If you have been following my blog for a while, you probably already have the flowers and the bird.

I should mention that I put my initials, JL, at the end of most of my files. That helps me to remember that I made the file and am free to use it as I choose. It will also help you to identify who made the file or where you got it from. Sometimes I forget to add my intials, but most of the time they are there.

Please remember to credit the person who made the file when you use it to make something for an online post or challenge.

ATC for City Crafter Challenge

This week at City Crafter Challenge Blog, they are having an Artist Trading Card (ATC) challenge. ATCs are small 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 cards that artists/crafters share with each other as sample of their work. I wanted mine to reflect me so this is what I came up with:

I love blue and white as you can probably tell from my blog colors. My kitchen has blue and white dishes and deorations all over the walls. This basket is one of my favorites.

It sits on the counter. (obviously it does not hang from the wall :)

The dishes that we use are blue and white too.

I LOVE them! The colors I like and flowers :)

So you can see why I chose the colors. There is also a "J" on the card for Jani. It is hard to see in the picture because I have so much stuff going on with this little card.

Of coarse it would not be complete if it did not have flowers so I added 3 tiny little flowers and put rhinestones in the center.

There is one piece of solid colored blue paper on the card. Everything else started as white cardstock and I inked them (TH Distress Ink: Wild Honey & Chipped Saphire)

For the blue and white embossed piece, I put Distress ink on my embossing folder then embossed it with Cuttlebug's Victoria embossing folder.

Here are the cut files for the bird, small leaves, and tiny flowers. I copied these birds from a picture so I can't really say that I created this file.

Hope you enjoy and head over to City Crafter Challenge Blog (where I am entering this ATC)  to see all their lovely creations. It is full of inspritation.

Quilled Hummingbird card

This Z fold card is going to a friend of the family. It is done by quilling 1/8 inch wide paper with a quilling tool and quilling comb. The comb looks similar to the old hairpicks we used to poof our permed hair with back in the 80's (I guess I am dating myself, huh)  I got my supplies from Quilling Creations.
Materials: light purple cardstock for card base, white cardstock for scalloped rectangles and embossed panel, Cuttlebug embossing folder- Victoria, K&Co decorative paper, quilling paper, quilling tool, comb.

birdhouse card

After listening to the birds sing outside, I was inspired to make a birdhouse shaped card. I had seen one in the July 2010 issue of Card Maker Magazine. I made a svg file and a scut file for Sure Cuts A Lot. I like it so much I made several.

On some of the cards, I used blue & white patterned paper.

On other cards I used white cardstock that I embossed with the "birds and swirls" Cuttlebug embossing folder. The embossed image was inked with blue ink.

I ran the bird through my Xyron adhesive machine right-side down then applied glitter.

It may be difficult to see in the picture, but the bird has a rhinestone eye.

The large flower on the front is from Penny Duncan's site. If you would like her cut file click here. She has A lot of inspiring photos, tutorials, and tons of free svg files.

For all other card elements:

(not pictured here)

If you have any problems with the cut files please leave a comment or email me so I can fix it.
Hope you enjoyed this post.
