Home Exterior Mood Board

Happy Friday, everyone! I'm so excited because our house is being painted! Yay! Before, it was a fleshy pink color with dark brown trim. Not exactly our style. It has gotten me in the mood to think about the whole exterior of the house. I don't want to spend a fortune fixing it up right now, but I'm sure I will make a few changes once the painting is finished. Plus, it's a great time to add accessories because a lot of lawn and patio things are on sale now!

Here's the little mood board I created. It's definitely for more of the bigger picture, but it gives me a good starting point. Figured I would share it with you all!
1. The trim color. Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore.
2. The body of the house color. Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore.
3. The door color. Balsam by Benjamin Moore.

I'm sure we will post pictures of the house once the painting is all complete. It will awesome to see the before and after transformation!

I hope you all had a great week & have an even better weekend! It's starting to feel like fall around here and I'm ready to start hitting up the pumpkin patches :)

Fun Scallop Painted Planter

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape brand painter’s tape for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Hey everyone! I know that Fall is upon us, and we've transitioned from making our patios and yards look nice to making our homes comfy & cozy. That doesn't stop me from a fun outdoor project! I decided to add a bit of pizazz to an otherwise bland white planter. photo scallopplanter1_zps49dcb807.jpg
Here is what I used for this project:
-medium sized white planter
-FrogTape® ShapeTape™ in the Scallop pattern
-leftover latex wall paint
-small paint brush

And here is what I did:

But first, here is a before picture...
 photo plantermaterials_zps9c375e9a.jpg
1. I took the FrogTape® ShapeTape™ and stuck it around the planter, making it as even as possible. You could whip out a ruler, but I just eyeballed it. Make sure the surface is clean before you stick the tape on. I then smoothed all of the edges down.
2. I got out my leftover paint and started applying thin coats. I waited for each coat to dry before doing the next one. It took about 3 thinly applied coats.
3. While the paint was still a bit tacky, I removed the tape. Since the pot has a smooth surface, I was afraid the tape might peel the paint off. It didn't :) I also ended up with a really nice clean edge!

FrogTape® products have the legendary PaintBlock® technology that somehow interacts with latex paint and creates a barrier. This ensures a super clean line, with a lot less bleeding. As soon as I saw the new ShapeTape™, I knew I would have to use one of the cute designs for a project. I think it performed really well- even on a super smooth surface like my planter. Feel free to check out Shape Tape for yourself. You can also watch this video for tons of ideas!

Not only do I love my fun scallop painted pot, I think my peace lily is really digging it, too. ;)

Have any of you guys tried FrogTape® before when painting? How about the new ShapeTape™?

We hope you guys are having an awesome day!

Thrifty Thursday: Mason Jar Lanterns w/ Dollar Store Materials

It's Thrifty Thursday time! I've been wanting to make these lanterns forever, and finally found the time to make them, though it didn't take any time at all! I was pleasantly surprised how quickly these came together.
To make this project as thrifty as possible, I raided my dollar store supplies. So, I used:
-about a cup of dry pinto beans
-dollar store pumpkin pie votives
-raffia (2 strands per lantern)

I filled the bottom of the jar with the pinto beans, and set the votive inside. I then took each piece of raffia and wrapped it around the jar twice, under the bottom ridge. I double tied the raffia on opposite sides of the jar as tight as possible.
I pulled each piece of raffia up and tied it at the top, like you would tie a balloon. Then I cut off the excess.
The raffia probably won't last very long, but it does the trick in a pinch. I will probably replace it with twine somewhere down the line. The last thing I did was hang them up outside, and I watched them glow in the fading light.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you all are having an amazing Thursday. What are everyone's plans for the weekend? I'm excited to watch Kayla participate in her obstacle/mud run on Saturday. Maybe I will take my new camera and get some pics for you guys... if Kayla will let me! Hah!

Have a great weekend, and I will be back next Wednesday!

Patio Cart Redo - Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of our patio cart redo! So, if you missed Part 1 you can check that out HERE! Today I want to share with you a few of the items I used to decorate our FREE patio cart. To start off I used a classic mason jar with fake flowers to add a little color-fun.

The mason jar was FREE (from my Dad also). Aren't Dad's awesome? :) The flowers were from the dollar store. The next item I want to talk about is the white stand - which was also free. It was silver, and I spray painted it white (much more summer-like).

The yellow flower candle holder on top is from Michael's. I went there over the weekend and they had some awesome deals! A lot of summer clearance items (candle holder was $1.30). Next up is my favorite!

My flower pot silverware holders! This was originally 3 ceramic flower pots (already connected) ($10.00 at Big Lots) they were various colors. I spray painted the entire piece white. I used dark gray yarn and attached my SILVERWARE PRINTABLES to dark gray scrapbook paper to make this cute outdoor silverware holder!

These printables are FREE for you to use, if you'd like. You can find them on our FREE PRINTABLES tab at the top of our blog. And last but not least we have my simple DIY bunting - just for fun! I used Kenzie's quick and easy bunting method to create this.

Well, that's about it. I hope you enjoyed PART 2 of our patio cart redo. Do you have a patio cart? What do you use it for the most? I can't wait to use mine - probably first up is an overdue bbq at our house! :)

Patio Cart Redo - Part 1

Oh. My. Word! Those are my thoughts after this project. Lol. This was a more challenging project than I had anticipated. I had a vision in my head for what I wanted it to look like, and when that wasn't turning out, I got a bit frustrated. Anyway, I'll just get started and explain as I go.
First things first, I got this cool patio cart from my Dad, for FREE! Yes, free! No complaints about that. If you haven't seen my previous post with my "Patio Mood Board" go check that out. On my board I posted a picture of this patio cart...

So, when my Dad said, "hey I've got a cart for you" (for free) You can imagine how excited I was! Here is the one that he gave me...
Patio Cart - Before (OrchardGirls.blogspot.com)
So much potential! It was an off-white creamish color (that's a legit color, right?) and was pretty beat up, and a missing wheel, but definitely fixable things.
Patio Cart - Before (OrchardGirls.blogspot.com)
I wanted to paint it gray and add some stenciling on top of the cart.
Painted Gray...check! Steciling on top...FAIL!
Stencil Fail
After SEVERAL different methods and failing again and again, I gave up on the stenciling. Do you have a tutorial on how to stencil, please post in the comments! I obviously need some assistance. Lol. Anyway, I think it turned out pretty good.....considering!
Patio Cart - After (orchardgirls.blogspot.com)
Put some new wheels on that bad boy, and spray painted it gray.
(Paint and Primer in One Granite spray paint from Home Depot)

Patio Cart Redo - Part 1
I think it turned out okay. What do you think? Think I should add some stenciling on top, or just leave it as is? Thank you for stopping by our blog and following along, we really appreciate all your support.
Be sure to come back on Thursday for PART 2! Where I will talk about all the details of how, and what I used to decorate our Patio Cart - Including some FREE printables for you guys :)
Have a wonderful day,
