Last night I logged into my One Preppy Cookie Facebook account to find that I had crossed the 1,000 "Like" threshold. That blew my mind. I know it may not seem like much to many, but to think that over 1,000 people care enough to see my work meant a lot to me. One Preppy Cookie was started as a creative outlet and has grown into more than I could have imagined. It has introduced me to new friends and re-connected me with many people who I may have otherwise not crossed paths with regularly. It has been fun, challenging, gratifying and then some. It has taught me many lessons on running a small business and empowered me to know that anything is possible.
Many of you know that OPC is not my full-time career. It is a small family-run business that I tend to nearly every night and weekend. I make the cookies, my mom is the shipping packager and my husband is the Post Office delivery man. The three of us encompass the entire "operation." That is, aside from you all.
I want to wholeheartedly thank those of you who have followed me along on this journey and supported One Preppy Cookie. As a small token of my ongoing appreciation, I am giving away a baker's dozen of assorted 4th of July cookies.*
This is certainly not a plea for more orders (I will not be taking those for the foreseeable future as it is) but rather a HUGE THANK YOU for believing in One Preppy Cookie.
GOOD LUCK!
THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.

10 Years Later - We Remember
I am sure the question “Where were you on 9/11?” will remain a prevalent question in our minds forever. I believe it is the question of my generation and certainly hope that there is not another similar question that has to be asked down the road.
On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 I was a senior in college on my way to a 9 a.m. appointment at the Career Center to finalize my resume for an upcoming job interview. I sat down with the woman assigned to help me who casually said, “Did you hear that a plane hit the World Trade Center?” I didn’t think much of it, assuming it was a propeller plane and having no idea it was a packed commercial flight. We continued our meeting with the radio playing next to us when we heard that a second plane hit. Next we heard that a bomb went off at the Pentagon (which we later learned was a plane.) Then I told the lady that I had to leave and promptly RAN back to my house to watch in horror alongside three friends on our living room floor as the World Trade Center towers crumbled to the ground. Dan Rather could not speak at that moment and quite frankly neither could we.
The phone lines were jammed for hours and I remember the uncertainty in my stomach of not being able to reach my family. Ironically the cable in our house went out, so I and a few friends walked across the street to a dorm to watch the TV in their common room as it was confirmed that another plane went down. With classes cancelled, the day went on watching the coverage. I finally reached my mom and asked her if I should come home, not knowing what to do or what was going to happen next. I remember her saying, “It is probably safer where you are. Stay there.” With my family living fifteen miles away from the White House, I was scared. Having family and friends living in New York City, I was scared. Having roommates who spent that entire day not being able to locate family near the tragedies, I was scared. All in all it was the most terrifying day I have had. I know my story is tame and extremely fortunate compared to the story of many others, however it is a story that I will carry with me always...just as we all will.
Another thing prominent in my memory about the days that followed 9/11/01 was the intense patriotism expressed throughout our country. Everywhere I looked on campus, I saw the American flag proudly flying. Whenever I turned on the news, I saw the same thing wherever they were broadcasting from. There seemed to be an overall awareness of remembering what truly mattered. Those of us who experienced the events of that tragic day together were forever bonded and always remembered when we told “our story” of where we were when we learned the news of 9/11. We would never forget.
While I typically keep things light on One Preppy Cookie, I felt that it was only appropriate to acknowledge those who lost their lives ten years ago today. And also to salute those who were courageous to help others in any way and demonstrated selflessness that many cannot even imagine.
So let’s celebrate those people along with our country as a whole today. We remember.

Sassy Sixty!
First of all, I hope you all had a very happy 4th of July! Mine was spent creating 9 dozen cookies before heading out to take in this view:
Now on to the cookies...
You know you have fans when your cookies make appearances at the same house three weekends in a row! And you also know you have fans when the mother/daughter duo who has been keeping their home stocked with my cookies for events likes them enough to travel with the to Michigan to a family birthday party. What an honor!
This weekend's event was Mary's sister's 60th birthday party. A fourth of July weekend birthday girl and a "Sassy Sixty" party called for a cross between the two themes. (Oh and per usual, my new biggest fans like dots and monograms!)
I was pleased with how these came out and even more pleased to receive a series of enthusiastic emails in response to my "sneak peak."
Now what are we doing this weekend ladies?? ;)
Thank you (again) Kelly and Mary!

(4th of July) Party Time!
Happy Friday everyone! Thanks goodness for the long weekend ahead. I have had a busy but fun week in the cookie department that started out with the photos below. Recently my friend Mart called me and inquired about cookies for her family's 4th of July family reunion party. She said they would be "eating crabs and drinking beer" while enjoying family and celebrating the 4th. That's more than enough information to get my mind going and here is what I sent their way.
I couldn't have asked for a nicer family to make cookies for. Mart and her mom have been big supporters of me with OPC and I really appreciate it. Thank you ladies!
I hope you all have a happy and healthy holiday weekend!

Getting in the Spirit!
It is a VERY busy week here at One Preppy Cookie. We are working on everything from beers and crabs to "sassy" birthday, butterflies, flowers, cocktails and a LOT of patriotic cookies. So, instead of a lengthy post, I will instead give you a sneak peak of the July 4th spirit going on in our kitchen. I don't know about you all, but I am certainly looking forward to the holiday weekend!
Have a wonderful day!
